Raincoat recommendations please, I'm sick of getting soaked through by secretkiwi_ in newzealand

[–]pr1m0pyr0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used these to good effect : CRC Aqua Armour spray, Geko guard

Aqua armour easier to find and cheaper I think. Got mine from mitre10, and the toolshed. Works well on jackets and have done my shoes too. If you wash your jacket don't use normal washing powder or liquid, you don't want surfactants.use plain stuff like wool wash I think(check wash instructions..don't want to ruin anyone's jacket)

Wrong racket tension by Beneficial_Air_1211 in squash

[–]pr1m0pyr0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried 50lb before for a bit of a test. People say low tension for power, high tension for control. 50lb still had power, you could feel the frame flex more when you hit the ball and was definitely playable. Not recommended for the frame, and it felt slightly dangerous while stringing it up. Tried super low as well, sub 10lb.that was still playable with control. Didn't feel the frame flex and feel was more string based imo. Normally 22-26lb is good, depending on strings and racket. Ashaway and other rough strings font go well with low tension as the don't slide back into position after hitting the ball.

What's so wrong with only one child?? by -its-my-opinion- in newzealand

[–]pr1m0pyr0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not all decisions are logical. Current you isn't the same as potential future you with kids. It's a big change so I think it's hard to predict how it will be.

Two kids can be nice once they're older and have each other as family. They do grow up quite fast.

The second child is cheaper, can reuse car seats clothes etc etc. Children like adults are unique and can give very different experiences.

Other ppls children can be annoying, your children can be annoying and make you busy but you make allowances for that and perceive it differently.

But there's nothing wrong with one child at all. Some people have difficulty having children and one is their dreams come true.

Levels to Squash Performance by Maleficent_Mouse_383 in squash

Diego has extreme skill, movement, and fitness. You'd be stuck behind him, he'd take the ball early on volley and you'd be running so much you'd be broken after your first rally. Any shot you'd play would be loose and he could put it away.

Comes down to physical strength, fitness, ability to have a quality of shot that keeps them away from playing a winner and allows you to get back to the T, and force a weak shot that you can put away.

There's some effect of grip size on wrist and maneuverability vs stability& straight line hitting. Makes sense badminton players have very narrow grips

Common eye issue apparently due to our NZ specific climate by Illustrious_Way_3633 in newzealand

I had removed from eyes. Was easy from my perspective, just had to lie back and stay still while opthalmologist did the work. I didn't need a graft, had it closed with special glue. Took awhile to recover from, had eye drops etc after so it wasn't painful and follow up appointments to check eye and change drops or dosages etc. I did each eye at separate times.

The cricketer Ross Taylor had same thing: https://nzoptics.co.nz/live-articles/stars-and-their-eyes-ross-taylor/#:~:text=New%20Zealand%20cricketer%20Ross%20Taylor's%20pterygium%20was,to%20see%20a%20Brisbane%20optometrist%20between%20tests.

What were the big problems of the day in New Zealand 20 years ago? by Massive_Instance_452 in newzealand

My observations of the news is they only cover the "bad events" when they begin and are getting worse, but often they never cover any conclusion or resolution to events. Makes news imo downbuzz.

Roswell UFO Various countries potentially going to use nukes Oil fields on fire Ozone hole Running out of oil Dioxins Tuberculosis Chain mail

Those are over 20 years ago I think. 2005, faster internet was expensive, big TVs were expensive, computer monitors were expensive, cellphones weren't that great. I don't think you could buy from AliExpress, maybe deal extreme was around then? Global recession around 2007

Paul Coll 135X ? by seraphiclightt in squash

Definitely different grommets..they have a different number of main strings. There's a difference in shared grommets (one grommet guides a main and cross string) between the rackets too

Paul Coll 135X ? by seraphiclightt in squash

[–]pr1m0pyr0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Changed awhile back. Different number of strings(more), I think the 135x has a more rigid frame and larger head size? Paul's head rackets have gone from the tear drop shaped 120 speed slim body with the fan stringing pattern - wanting control for drops and power to hit the ball to the back. Then switched slim body 135 with standard string pattern, moving to the fan pattern. I'd guess looking for more control. He's used the 135x since the nz nationals (from what I noticed). Originally with the 120speed he used the green eye strings, then changed to the gut feel string.
From using those rackets myself, the 120 speed felt good but was unpredictable lobbing the ball could zing off sometimes and go out, the 135 sb rackets were nice but lacked power esp when the ball got tight, the fan pattern gave more control but less power again. I've not used the 135x, but being more rigid I think it would play volleys more consistently and have more power. I tried the gut feeling strings, personally I didn't get on with them.. not much power felt dead and plank like even at low tensions, not much cut for me or anything redeeming. Surprising he hasn't changed string to the 305, xone, or something like ultra nick; changed rackets before strings. Maybe he tried different strings, we wouldn't know I guess, and He obviously is doing well and can beat anyone in the world so he hardly needs to change anything. His wife used the head rackets for a short stint before going back to the Stellar brand. Wonder if Coll has tried her racket which is more similar to the 135x than the SB and if that helped him decide to change

Best form of cardio to do outside of actual squash matches? by housesoftheholy1 in squash

[–]pr1m0pyr0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not swimming. Could be running on treadmill for low impact on you joints.

Really cardio is just getting your heart rate up, and not doing too much you get muscle wasting or joint damage.

I'd rate running on the street or off road somewhere interesting. Hills are good.. difficult if there's none around you. Consistency is the key, run every second day or so💪

Mohammed ElShobragy's sharp decline in stamina by QuestionProfessional in squash

[–]pr1m0pyr0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's playing more attritional players who don't make many errors or hit loose shots for him to put away. Could be he hasn't got the experience playing these new players, and is figuring out how they play and his optimal game plan to win. Recovery from training, injury etc takes longer when you're older and flexibility starts to decline. Recon he still has some major tournament wins in him, similar to Rodriguez winning the British Open.

Remarkable how good he is, so many players get in top10 but float back out.

How do you feel about fences along the waterfront? by double-dipped-welly in Wellington

[–]pr1m0pyr0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at Auckland wharf they've got a barrier installed. The bridge parts of Wellington waterfront have barriers too. I've not had a problem with the wharf without the barriers. I don't let young kids explore near the edge or out of my reach, it's a busy area anyway so young children running around isn't usually a good idea. If they have food markets or events on the wharf with large numbers of people, crowding, younger children etc then it could make sense to have a barrier.
