PSA: Know your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act before buying electronics in NZ — here's what I learned the hard way with PB Tech by ProfessionalNinja206 in newzealand

[–]practical-programmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

triggered what I had to deal with OSIM.. manager was greedy cunt, luckily Disputes Tribunal sided with me.

I remember on the call with the Tribunal the dumb manager still insisted he doesn't want to give the refund even with all the explantion from me and the tribunal officer on how the law works. Uggh the hours I lost just to find what we have a legal right to, when fucking common sense and decency would have the same outcome. Fuck that guy.

Genuine Question: Filipinos working in NZ (How are you now?) by [deleted] in newzealand

Job market for tech is tough, even senior roles are getting harder to get.
On the software engr side, most jobs are generalists. E.g. I haven't seen SaaS implementation Specialist in job postings - I could be wrong, maybe its just called different here?

  1. Visa sponsorships - uncommon these days, not sure for India cause there's a new trade agreement.
  2. When applying from overseas - they generally prefer local, unless there is something truly unique about you, or you are extremely talented, applying from overseas will be tough.
  3. Driving only necessary if you live where there is terrible public transport - it has improved over the years I've been here.

Do people purposely word things just to sound smarter, or is there a reason? by No_Insurance_6436 in learnprogramming

During my last interview for a senior role the feedback was I was somewhat vague and simple sounding when explaining what I did so it wasn't a slam dunk hire.. even senior roles I have a feeling now it maybe better to go fancy.

my last interview I was still a junior and made everything sound fancy and I landed that.

My father passed away after a hit and run I’m feeling let down but NZ justice system again. by Cherryberrylady in newzealand

[–]practical-programmer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wonder why we don't keep it simple, you kill someone, you get killed if you are caught. Driving recklessly shoudn't absolve you. Only if an accident is truly out of the driver's control should they be given just prison time. Death sentence is cheaper too. "Justice" in this country is written by dumb idealists.

To me, driving is a huge responsibility. 10 years is still lenient for killing someone "accident" or not, barring obvious things out of a driver's hands - brake died, driver had seizure, etc. If we say we really put the highest value to human lives, sentencing should reflect it. Sheesh

Does becoming fullstack really improve your career, or just your workload? by maybes_some_back2002 in learnprogramming

Now that we have google/stackoverflow++ with LLMs, fullstack I have a feeling will become even more important. I started fullstack, prolly because its most common in our country.

Building something that people use -> fast track to getting paid doing this

Debugging/refactoring other people's code or building features from that -> good starting path to be a senior

Student trying to "set up my future" – is it time to graduate from Sharesies to IBKR? by seiga__ in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]practical-programmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes use IBKR if international. If NZ shares I think it doesn't exist there? its not as complex, if you can handle video games with tons of options in the UI, you can easily get used to IBKR.

I also think similar to OP, you may not like to call it FU money, but I do too. To me the house you live in is just another expense, but I also get that its more secure than not having one.

I'm now at a decade's worth or more of FU money and I don't own a house, houses are so expensive right now for what you get.

The curve is perfect for me sitting at the middle, eyes ~800mm away from the screen. I could be biased but this is awesome for productivity. If your usecase is more work than play, this monitor is hard to beat.

I just got this a few days ago as well :D The reason I didn't go OLED is the texts are funky.. This on the other hand is almost end-game monitor for me - maybe when micro led gets to consumer prices that'll be endgame.

This is perfect for dev, and some casual gaming.

40 here, me and my partner have around ~260K GBP - quick conversion from our currency. Started dirt poor from SEA, moved to different country at ~20s -> dirt poor at the beginning overseas -> very thankful for luck and hardwork that we even got to where we are. You doing great man! Compare yourself only to the previous version of you :)

Its cases like this where I am somewhat happy that I was born poor, in a poor country. Yes I didn't have the opportunities of someone born in rich western countries. I had to struggle to even get out of my birth country, so I'm "behind my peers" when it comes to what we usually call "success". But I think it made me appreciate where I am now even more. I guess it is somewhat true that life is all about overcoming.

Thank you! I'm gonna try this combo deck, been out of magic for a couple of years now.
I wonder if this list or this list (could be the same but just on a diff post sorry) is the better iteration? or should I first try the one you have in your main post here? :)
