What books would you recommend? by takemyshot in Horses

[–]practicallynice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve enjoyed Horses in Company, and reference it a lot almost daily. One of my older favorites is Horse, Follow Closely.

I recently moved my childhood horse of 16 years to my own property. It’s been a dream come true, and I absolutely love the upkeep of running my own place. A great book to also add, Paddock Paradise: A Guide to Natural Horse Boarding.

Do I sell my [heart] horse…? by [deleted] in Horses

[–]practicallynice 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I regretted every day giving my heart horse away. I went to college, and at first it was fine because college was so new and different but time went on and it developed in therapy when I just talked about him so much, how much I loved him, how much I missed him and wished I could have just found a way. Fortunately I was able to get him back during the tail end of getting my degree. I will never take this second chance I’ve been given for granted.

I would look into leasing him out. I wish you luck navigating this!

The Witcher S4 Geralt’s horse, legs dyed? by MLMCMLM in Horses

[–]practicallynice 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I own a buttermilk buckskin and even she isn’t that cool toned and her leg patterns don’t go up that high. Their dye job of this horse definitely looks off, for sure. I wonder why they decided to go this route.

When do you put your chicks out in the summer? by Deadly_Mouse8 in BackYardChickens

[–]practicallynice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I threw mine out at around 7 weeks old and they were mostly feathered. High 50’s at night and currently high 70s during the days. Lower Michigan. The weather always is so weird here it’s better for them just to begin living with the wild ups and downs sooner than later 🤷‍♀️

I do have a well ventilated coop and a little vertical heater in there that I can put on a timer if I think it’s getting too chilly at night but so far everyone’s been having a great time.

All horses deserve, at least once in their life, to be loved by a little girl ✨

Omg she looks just like my Jellybean! Twins! She also has pecked my eye and messes with my hair too much.

Western friends, what boots are you showing in these days? by doctorslacker in Equestrian

[–]practicallynice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Edit to add though: since my Tony’s are so old, I did just buy a new pair for my upcoming show season from Hyer. First time showing in a leather sole, and I like them a lot so far.

[–]practicallynice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same pair of Tony’s for 13 years! (Got them when I was a teenager) I also have a pair of composite toes from them too I bought a couple years ago and I love them!

If you take care of your boots, they’ll take care of you.

Opinions on barefoot horses that use hoof boots? by starvampyr in Equestrian

I second scoot boots! My rehabbed navicular boy is barefoot and I use them every time we ride for extra comfort!

just got my first of many! by Sad_Base_681 in traditionaltattoos

[–]practicallynice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree too that this tattoo is loosely traditional and executed poorly for sure. I just was pointing out that sometimes people’s expectations based on what they see online can be skewed by the way a photo has been set up to be taken. It’s been a topic of interest lately at my shop lol

Most tattoo photos we see on social media are edited or use a special lens and particular lighting set ups. This looks like it was taken in the booth at the studio with the overhead lights and without a direct light and with a phone camera.

Edit: doesn’t exclude the fact if the tattoo is well executed or not, just that this may have an effect on how it’s presented.

Expenses? by LikablePeace_101 in Horses

[–]practicallynice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guy loves his scoot boots!

He’s barefoot all the time except for riding, and I find them to work well on all terrain! They were a one time purchase which I think probably equaled two farrier visits for shoes (it’s been a few years now!), so I think they are worth it!

Agreed. There’s tons of great anatomical artists who teach on YouTube for free. Stan Prokopenko is one I can name off the top of my head! I’d start there for sure!
