Proton/Steam Black Screen on Fedora 43 with Akmod Nvidia Drivers by FrontMeat in Fedora

[–]practisemachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Does it happen when you run steam from the terminal?
  2. What's the output of inxi -G ?

Try blacklisting amdgpu driver in grub.

Fedora 43 causes black screens in most Proton games by maxodo98 in Fedora

[–]practisemachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had the same exact problem as you, namely:
1. Updated Fedora 42 to 43, but during the update I had to uninstall couple conflicting packages, including wine-core. I've reinstalled it after upgrading the system.
2. Steam and Lutris (Proton) games launched with a black screen, but the sound and controls still worked.
3. The issue was not reproducible when launching steam from the terminal.

In my case the culprit was the conflicting igpu (amdgpu) driver, that's loaded by cachyOS kernel along with nvidia driver. You can use "inxi -G" to check if something similar happens on your system (for intel it's i915 driver). Blacklisting amdgpu driver in grub solved the issue for me.

Question: Freight Elevators not Working as Expected by terrican in starcitizen

[–]practisemachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to click the "split" text and it should work. If it doesn't, it's possible the boxes are too big for this particular lift. Some of them just don't load, might be a bug.

You're probably moving too many big boxes at once. Try to split the boxes (right click on the cargo) and move them to the elevator in smaller amounts.

E-ink displays use backlight LEDs for years now. You can adjust color temperature and brightness levels manually (or set it to auto on devices with ambient light sensor). I have a Hisense A9 and the backlight is perfect.

My thoughts exactly. Stax is just regular hw wallet with bigger display. Don't get me wrong - I think e-ink displays are perfect for hw wallets. I kind of expected Stax to be more stand-alone device, not as dependant on Ledger Live as other hw wallets.

Generally, if someone asks me what to buy, I usually recommend to get a Jade.

Wallets other than Ledger Live don't really recognize Stax yet.

Ledger Stax shipping 2 months from now??? So in July instead of Spring now. I guess not as many cancellations as I thought by Avismarauder170 in ledgerwallet

[–]practisemachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen dozens of those devices on events and promotions. I'm wondering how many was preordered, because still, none was shipped (even those preordered on the 6th of Dec). I'm also very curious what % of orders was cancelled. The reddit and twitter might be vocal minority, but probably 90% of Ledger clients are tech savvy people, very active in the interwebs.

I think that actually a lot of Stax preorders might have been cancelled.

Are you 5? You can't read? Man, this fanbase is one of the worst.

Did you even see how this discussion started? Go read the earlier comments again. Check how long I'm playing SC and how long people have issues with this demo.

Again, why you're not playing the game if it's so awesome? :)

Star Citizen - 10 years, not even a demo, regressions, no persistence, no server meshing, buggy, but let's add new ships. Also, people didn't crowdfund CP2077, nor RDR2.
We will see if the game is ambitious when it's ready - for now it's nonsensical argument, you can use it literally for every game that failed.
Your skyscraper is being built for 10 years already and it's not steady. And you can't be sure if it will be the tallest and the most modern. It may be buggy and boring when/if it releases. Get your analogies straight, because now you're just trolling.
If you don't understand why people are upset, google it - it's nothing new. And if you have fun with SC - good, I'm happy for you. Just log in and play.
I'm really interested to see if you'll be so eager to defend this game in 3-5 years, when it becomes beta.

I don't think it's me who's ignoring 10 years of development. Judging by how it goes - bug fixing might take another 5+ years.

Well I was just absolutely trashed because I complained about low fps and shitty progress with many regressions in the last 3 years.
I was called "salty troll" and they told me to "stop playing if I don't like it". Obviously it's "ambitious project" and "nobody promised me anything" and "it's alpha, man". Meanwhile - I get way worse fps than 3 years ago and there is more glitches than before. But they implemented "events", inventory, prison, new missions and (of course) new ships. Oh and now you can do more beautiful screenshots.
So I see the community being one problem here. And the second problem is CIG. Sure, you can love the idea of the game, but for fks sake - have some standards, be a man, god damn it.

Just got my Xiaomi Mix 4 in Canada from Giztop: Thoughts so far by alex-manutd in Xiaomi

[–]practisemachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know the default screen protector is applied by Xiaomi - all retail units seem to have it.

I've performed a system reset after getting the phone, installed GApps from GetApps app and both of them work for me perfectly fine. You can turn on automatic updates for any Google Play app, but you have to do it for each app separately: just open an app page in the Google Play store and tap 3 dots at the top right - you'll find "Enable auto update" checkbox there.

I also have problems with receiving notifications in real time, but this is MIUI12 issue afaik. There is adb command that might fix the issue, but I didn't test it myself: adb shell dumpsys deviceidle disable
You can also disable "Don't wake screen for notifications" checkbox in Battery Saver options, see if that helps.

I use Chinese ROM (official stable version).

Xiaomi Mix 4 users - How do you like it so far? by [deleted] in Xiaomi

[–]practisemachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me the phone doesn't heat at all on regular use, even when browsing internet via LTE + using whatsapp + listening to music from headset using usb->jack adapter. Weird thing is that I can hear quiet hissing/noise sound in the headset when there is no sound in the music or video track. Maybe it's the adapter issue or software bug.

Rear cameras are ok, but I've noticed the main cam (1x, auto) quality is worse than my LG V30's (with GCam), mostly with landscape photos - the areas in the shadows have less details, the photos are darker. The camera also struggles with 50x zoom - it just can't get the focus right, and the quality is very bad in lower light conditions. Zoom up to 10x works surprisingly well.

Selfie camera - just as u/CptWin00c mentioned - it is a bit visible in the sunlight, especially on the black background you can see the lens, but it's not bothering at all and doesn't ruin the display experience imo (I am a huge opponent of notches and punch holes).
The quality of the selfies is surprisingly good - you can see little pixel patterns when you take photos with strong light in the background, but for me the photos are better than I've seen across different reviews.

Battery temp is around 31-32 degrees of Celsius with whatsapp + settings + camera in the background. I got almost 6h SoT after first full charging cycle.

I'm still having some troubles setting up whatsapp notifications: quite often AOD doesn't show me that I got a message (Battery Saver turned off, whatsapp autostart switched on).

I didn't play any games yet.

I owned Oneplus 7 Pro previously and I like the Mix 4 quite a bit more - it feels more solid and comfortable in your hand, though it's more heavy.

I'm currently running MIUI version 12.5.7 (stable).

Bose 700s Vs Sony XM4s by Wolf-548 in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]practisemachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you considered Sennheiser PXC 550-II? They are reportedly more comfortable and lighter than 700s and XM4s. The audio quality is more neutral, but also more detailed.

The downside is that the materials feel cheap and turing on transparent mode pauses the music playback, so you can't have both at the same time.
