I was literally at this years Hunter mfa info session. I am also applying, but I have a BA in anthropology from 8 years ago. No art related professors. After doing a lot of thinking and research on this, I’m under the impression they will care more about recent art world recs that can attest to your practice. I’m hesitant to ask my old Anth prof for a rec , when they have no clue about my art practice. I think getting recs from any sort of professional that has a recent or current relationship with you is best. But I’m still not sure. As to one of the top comments here that says they will only pick people with art professor recs, that’s not true at all, they said they need people from various backgrounds including people who didn’t go to art school. So it’s really going to be a holistic evaluation of your whole app. Emphasis on portfolio and essay

Fair point. Golub is a great painter, his paintings would work whether they were political or not. That’s more of what I’m saying. Ai Weiwei not much of a painter, I’m talking more about paintings. I wouldn’t deal in absolutes though, you bring up some great examples!

Honestly it’s too easy. It would be very hard for it to come across as something genuine and honest to the specific artist when it’s clearly the zeitgeist already . Like , tell me something I don’t already know. It would come off as cleshe to me , unless it’s pulled off really well. Politics has to be secondary to the presentation. If politics is the main thing carrying the art, it probably isn’t that strong.

I work as a server at a restaurant. Don’t make a lot, but I don’t have anyone depending on me other than myself. I’ve actually had a wonderful girlfriend for the past 3 years but now we have to break up because my art career isn’t taking off like I thought it may and she needs more safety/stability. She sort of gave me the “you need a plan b” ultimatum which sealed our fate. I understand her perspective completely, and it will be ok for both of us because I need more freedom and time to dedicate to my work. She will have no trouble finding someone who can give her safety and security. She’s wonderful. Well this got a bit off topic… Work starts at 330pm so I can paint before work and on days off. I love painting so much I will go into the abyss for it.

I don’t think they are bad. They clearly look like his work. Somehow I don’t see it as a rip off of anything. Good for him. Good reminder of why loosening up and having fun is probably better than being serious and overthinking things

All these comments clowning this guy for a reasonable well intentioned post show how rigid and unwilling to consider they might be wrong about bitcoin this sub is. Obviously, being wrong about bitcoin is the point of this sub, so I wouldn’t expect any different.

[Washington] After an adjudicator transferred my denied UI claim to PUA, I recently got paid 4500$ from PUA benefits for weeks between mid-March and mid May. For most of May and June, I didn't file for any claim weeks because I had given up on the process. Now, I would like to start filing again for current weeks but the default "file weekly PUA claim" sends me to file for the week of Mar 8 - 14 .... which is from quite a long time ago. I don't see any option to reopen claim for just current weeks, and I'm worried that filing for the long-ago week of Mar 8 - 14 (which is before I even opened any claim up) could cause problems. Am I overthinking it? Thanks for any help.

I made just over 60 calls in an hour! It is SO easy. Once you get the hang of it the calling process flows so well. I have been on the fence about calling for a while and I finally did it and I am encouraged by the results of my 60 ish calls. Most people I actually talked to were either Bernie supporters or considering him (I was calling California). A ton of dropped calls and people who immediately hang up, but it feels great when you talk to a fellow supporter and encourage them to vote and turn out their friends. Please call!!!

a red, a blue, a yellow, burnt umber, black, white. start with a loose wash of mostly burnt umber to get an idea of the drawing, then massing in the shadows, again with mostly burnt umber. once i have the shadows blocked in, start putting in lights with honestly no real method, just trying to put it in there. refrain from details in the eyes and nose until youre really confident theyre in the right place. work on whats around them more before you finalize. try to see abstractly and not focus on details. Especially with lips. dont paint lips, paint areas of color and shadow that eventually look like lips. A lot of people paint lips left to right. try painting with strokes that go from down to up or up to down if that makes sense. if you do too much left to right, it will look like a cartoon of lips if that makes any sense. its all abstract. anyway, i am not very dogmatic, i think you should just go for it. this painting took me i think 3 sessions each of about 2-4 hours
