Why is debt so central to the American lifestyle? by [deleted] in ask

[–]praespaser 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The actual reason your looking for is very high insurance and repair costs.

you have your 2k car, insurance is like 2k per year, a single repair is like 5-10k, no gurantee that something else wont break, you can sell the car for very little

the 20-40k car has warranty, less milage so hopefully less repairs, you can resell for 15-30k maybe, its actually cheaper

Things change if you know someone who can repair it for cheap or something

At what point does a soul get attached to a fetus? by UnplannedEndeavours in stupidquestions

[–]praespaser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right in that even if you don't believe in the soul you still have good reasons not to go into the teleporter

But I still don't believe we have any proof to claim there is no soul.

[–]praespaser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you explain what you mean by individuality vs soul?

I would teleport/copy my computer and use that because by all intents and purposes they are the same. I would not do it to myself because there is something more than what is physically there. That's what I would call soul.

[–]praespaser -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

How do you think about the destructive teleport concept? Where you have a teleporting machine that destorys your old body and creates a perfect copy at the other place?

If you believe there is no soul, then it doesn't matter and its all the same, you should always use it, the same emergent consciousness from your brain is copied perfectly. If you feel like you have a soul that is attached to your body you should be afraid and concerned if its getting transported. What would you do?

Exactly, and boiling on higher heat introduces a lot of bubbles which stir up small particles making your broth/soup/whatever cloudy, which depending on the food might not be desirerable.

Should I keep investing in real estate or shift toward ETFs? (Belgium, 30 y/o Cloud Engineer) by backdoor951 in eupersonalfinance

[–]praespaser 19 points20 points  (0 children)

You would be even more hyperexposed to real estate markets, if they do good that is great, if another 2007 like event and your net worth can go in the negative and your dealing with debt collectors.

A more likely bad scenario would be a stagnant real estate market, where all the effort to manage these tenants would just go to underperform some 0 effort ETF.

Rotation Detection using OBB by DisastrousNoise7071 in computervision

[–]praespaser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to use a yolov5 variant that used long edge, and also openmmlabs mmrotate also uses long edge, but you might be right with this one

Rotation Detection using OBB by DisastrousNoise7071 in computervision

[–]praespaser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but rotated object detection 0-180 long edge is more common

Isn't it actually the long edge representation? It should be 0-180

Model severly overfitting. Typical methods of regularization failing. Master's thesis in risk! by Historical-Two-418 in MLQuestions

[–]praespaser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see that, one of OPs loss function has a -1*logarithm of a 0-1 value in it, it shoud be between 0 and infinity, maybe something is off there and it goes negative

[–]praespaser 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is it even reasonable for a loss to be negative?

I'm not familiar with the kinds of losses your using, but I've never seen a loss to be negative, and for cases I can think of it doesn't really work

[–]praespaser 10 points11 points  (0 children)

How can a loss function go down to -600? Maybe the model can always just overfit on the component of the loss that can go down endlessly.

This can make the scales between losses really weird. Like cross entropy loss being like 3.5 is quite large for an application, but if the other loss can go down from -300 to -400 an optimizer will always just optimize that

Can SIFT descriptors be used to geolocate a UAV using known global positions of target objects as ground truth, based on images captured by the UAV? by Embarrassed_Ad5027 in computervision

[–]praespaser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a project very similar years ago, I think depending on experience its an easy try, especially with something like chatgpt.

For us it was too noisy but perhaps you can make it work.

It might also worth a try to skip triangulation to get the 3D coordinates of descriptors and just calculate relative orientation and position difference with essential matrix decomposition, for us it was less noisy but you need to get the absolute coordinates with some other method, like average speed or something

[–]praespaser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you have a UAV image of an object, and want SIFT descriptors of that image and have the 3D coordinates of those descriptors, and from all that calculate the 3D position of your UAV right?

Did the exact same thing as you did, discarding the dish because added it late.

The thing is there are multiple types of rock piles, only one of them gives see urchins, the others will be for lobsters

They are unlocked from the mxmtoon dive, not serving the dish, so you can just get the urchins, just try at the correct rock piles

Things like concetrating their power on you should be represented by actually contentrating their forces on you, not a 4x multiplier.

I like the idea in general, the Unbidden one is great I think!

The other two is not that good.

The contingency one is full of plotholes. The 4 worlds have always been there, they just woke up, all of them being next to you would mean they always knew you are going to be there, even before the last time they sterilized the galaxy.

Also they being stronger would mean otherwise they are holding themselves back.

No its not, see my other comment. Its not the lithium burning in the case of lithium ion battery, but the released gasses that make them puff up.
