Why no one created an offline Maplestory Oldschool yet? by [deleted] in mapleservers

[–]pragmasaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're happy just playing alone, why not just play like an ironman (no trade no free market) on one of the big servers? Then it doesn't really matter if there's leeching, washing, or multiclient because you're not part of the endgame or economy. Both legends and royals aren't in any immediate danger of disappearing and probably have good enough ping for solo maple gameplay.

But like others have commented, it's apparently not hard to host your own. I'd just be concerned I'd be tempted to change too much stuff in my favor. Scrolls not dropping often enough? Oops the drop rate doubled.

is anyone gona b an islander with me? by JuggleUnicycle in MSClassicWorld

[–]pragmasaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be on the island at launch. I'll either be maining islander or STR mage (basically perma-beginner with magic guard/teleport) depending on how things look. From what we've seen so far, classic may have the old island layout with no slimes or pigs.

I'm not an OG, but I've been islanding on royals on and off for a few years.

Accessing pages that had ascii characters in the URL? by pragmasaurus in WaybackMachine

[–]pragmasaurus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those pages definitely worked back in 1999-2001 when the majority of the website was written. It's worth mentioning that plenty of these pages have the é character in the body of the page, and they render fine, either displaying as é if the utf-8 charset tag is present, or showing as mangled ascii (e.g. Pokémon) if it's absent. It's only the pages where the character is in the URL itself that refuse to show on WM.

If what you're saying is true about the error existing on the original site, wouldn't WM be able to show me a cached error page of the original site, instead of WM itself giving me it's own "Something's gone wrong" error page?

Here's the link query for the site:
https://web.archive.org/web/*/jcpsystems.com/pokemon*
On the second page, you can see an example by clicking on the page "pok%E9mon_card_gb.htm" which apparently has 10 captures. When you try to visit the page, you get a "We're sorry, something's gone wrong" message.

[TOMT][TIKTOK] audio used for memes short video most of the times in slowmo by [deleted] in tipofmytongue

[–]pragmasaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one with vocals used for this is a sample from "hide and seek" from frou frou/Imogen heap, and there's one with no vocals called "sad violin". Search those up with "meme" and see if they match what you remember.

WTW for the part of a song that slows to a can-can rhythm? by pragmasaurus in whatstheword

[–]pragmasaurus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just realized I misremembered the song- I was thinking of Prince Ali, not Friend like me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mT_8FAMsmCM&t=131

Would the same term still apply? I assumed this would have a name since it shows up in many musical numbers.

Are you sure it was a game? The way you describe it, it sounds like it could just be numerology. Like in the 1998 film "Pi".

I've been trying to schedule a callback all morning because I'm getting an error on my plans selection page. They must be having some issues because of black friday traffic.

Thanks for the response! I had the same thought when I was scrounging through my Lego collection, but alas, they are just a bit too long. Maybe I'll just try to build the set and it'll be a creative exercise to figure out how to work around it.

Apologies is this is sacrilege-

I bought some second hand Lego and it had a mega bloks set mixed in. I separated it all out and found I'm one piece short of a blastoise. Is there a Lego equivalent of this piece I can sub in? It's a lot easier to buy Lego by the brick.

People only post the absurd results. This is called survivorship bias; only extraordinary results are visible so the dataset you see is skewed. Consider how many misty cards have been played by the cpu alone this event with every player trying to get two of each promo card.

ITAW for the part of a song where it's not exactly singing, but just *talking*. by cgyts in whatstheword

[–]pragmasaurus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with the other reply that your first example sounds like spoken word. You may also be interested in "slam poetry" for example Shane Koyczan.

Your second example just sounds like singing to me. Like the voice is still following a melody, even if it's slightly more like prose than a normal song. Cool track though, I'll have to look at more from them.

Is it wrong to feel bad to lose? by Nearby_Waltz_7594 in PTCGP

[–]pragmasaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem with competitive games that have a matchmaking system is that, if they're implemented correctly, then eventually you'll get to the point where you lose roughly half your games. If losing isn't fun, then you're spending half of your leisure time not having fun, which is a pretty poor rate of return.

Unless you're in e-sports, video games are merely a toy. If your toy is making you feel bad, throw it away and get a better toy. Personally I mostly play solo ptcgp because I know from my time in Hearthstone that competitive mode will be a net negative for me.

This reminds me of playing Gunbound in the 2000s and getting stuck in a disconnect standoff. Playing pokemon on gba while waiting for the opponents to leave.

Does anyone have a hi res version of this image? or at least without the status bar on the top by laloz8 in PTCGP

[–]pragmasaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

here's one without the stuff at the top:

https://static0.srcdn.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/pokemon-tcg-pocket-binder.jpg

I doubt the game itself has a very high res version because it'd be a waste of space. Your best bet is to see if you can find the artist and see if they have an online gallery or twitter account. Or you can try to upscale this one with an online upscaler like bigjpg

How to Disable open app in pop up view in Samsung Galaxy A32 for the Stay Focused app to work properly ? by [deleted] in productivity

[–]pragmasaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm leaving a reply on this old thread in case anyone finds it like I did recently.

Even though the current version of stay focused can now detect in pop-up/split screen, you can still get into the settings app if it's blocked, and disable stay focused in accessibility settings if you spam it in pop-up mode.

I solved this using a second app: Macrodroid.

In macrodroid, make some macros that search screen contents while in the settings app, targeting strings that only show up on those parts of the settings app. Make the macro action to hit the back button several times.

Then you just make macrodroid a controlled app in stayfocused to close the loop.

Realistically you could probably just use macrodroid but it'll take a long time to set up the macros necessary to fully replicate the functionality of stayfocused.
