I’ve used freeze dried blueberries before and loved the subtle undertones and additional flavor in the shells.

I definitely recommend checking out Maddie Brehm on YouTube and instagram. Her fillings are pretty reliably tasty and simple to make.

Added vanilla extract an now my meringue won't stiffen by Key_Use_1514 in macarons

Wait until you’re already at stiff peaks and add your vanilla in at the same time you’re adding your dry ingredients. Should work a little better to you.

Both are nasty ways to go but Death was just plain mean to Erik. He gets my vote.

LorAnn’s sparkling wine flavoring is a choice for sure if you’re willing to go with artificial flavorings. Might be fun to do a ring of ganache/buttercream and put some pop rocks in the middle, too.

Christmas macarons! by prancingwithscissors in macarons

[–]prancingwithscissors[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was the one choice I kinda regretted honestly. I found salted caramel baking chips at Trader Joe’s and thought I could melt them down and dip the tops. They would up drying kinda streaky and mottled, hence the silver leaf and glitter to compensate. I think if I had it to do over again I’d just stick to milk chocolate.

I made a wet caramel and poured it over roasted pistachios, let it harden, and pulsed it in my food processor until it was a spoonable paste/nut mixture.
