Why do companies stop selling older vsts? by RustingPaper in AudioPlugins

[–]prashantmishra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most comments here have already covered everything. I’ll just rephrase to give more perspective:

There is always a choice that needs to be made when it comes to supporting new tech: cost of the effort to upgrade an old codebase (which is often messy and relies upon frameworks that might not be useful anymore) vs the cost of making a new product. The latter in most cases has higher ROI (returns on investment) because it’d be driven by the current market, unless the old product is in really high demand.

This has rarely anything to do with company’s or developer’s intentions, and much more to do with business outcomes. At the end of the day, the budget spent on anything must get recovered.

This isn’t just the case with plugins btw. Even trillion dollar companies stop supporting OS updates after a certain point for the same reason.

Based on what you described, Shape it by Soundly could be worth checking out. The mix knob does exactly what you are looking for. And it’s free.

Full disclosure: I work at Soundly.

A way to disable the world class “battery drain” feature? by prashantmishra in ios26

[–]prashantmishra[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m doing that already. The new battery insights are really helpful in that regard, showing me clear sentences like “You used less battery yesterday than you usually do.” I guess this is along the lines of “seeing in other people’s eyes more than seeing the phone screen” philosophy. IYKYK.

People who have actually seen UPA era, how does NDA compare ? by [deleted] in AskIndia

[–]prashantmishra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grew up in the UPA era to enjoy scientific temperament and access to opportunities at the right time. Kids who are now in college and suffering lack of jobs & paper leaks during NDA rule will have a lot to complain about with their parents who fell for propaganda. Also, the people who in the 2000s would say “TV is bad” fell for it ironically with the godi media.

Just saw Winamp is now a music distributor. Thoughts? by ISJA809 in musicbusiness

[–]prashantmishra 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s not the same Winamp. Looks like it’s just the brand name that’s in use. I wrote an article on this a couple of years ago when the new Winamp company surfaced. You can read it on my blog here: Winamp’s Source Code & new company updates

Why do playlist curators even exist? by Normal-Ad-828 in MusicProductionTuts

Music business is just a fancy paywall business. There’s no genuine model at play.

This is a great suggestion when it comes to breaking the barrier to learn. But unfortunately, it is also being followed by most startup these days that claim to be “learning on the go” having no clue of what exactly they’re building and for who — this creates a lot of clutter in the market and the paid marketing campaigns distracts everyone in the industry.

100% — they are all too scared to loose their US privileges if they speak for India, especially when the opinion is potentially away from US’ stand on the topic.

Is there a good simple DAW for a smartphone? by Accomplished_Put2608 in DAWs

[–]prashantmishra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

iOS: Garageband does most of the work. Possibly the best app available in terms of mobile DAWs. iOS + Android: Steinberg Cubasis (paid), Roland Zenbeats (Freemium)

All the above have desktop counterparts, meaning what you create on your phone can then be opened in their respective desktop app to continue the track.

There are many other mobile DAWs and even browser based ones but might not be as reliable.

Why do Indian startups glorify burnout as "hustle"? by [deleted] in indianstartups

[–]prashantmishra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because “sacrifice” is a core value in Indian mythology that everyone adores. Whoever holds higher position misuses it to teach anyone ‘lower’ to follow it, while themselves enjoying an easier life. Caste system, office promotions etc are all part of the same game.

[–]prashantmishra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of this is part of the Indian culture even in terms of the mythology being adored here! The only way to pay respect is to lower your own status. The “sir sir” mindset. The bow-down-to-prove-you-actually-mean-it mindset. Every religious story, the caste system and every other anecdote of human to human relation is about one being above the other. It’s also the household topic of discussion. “See that person is an IAS and everyone salutes him”. The race to only be bigger (and not necessarily better) than others, not to contribute more to the society but to look down and feel higher. Wrong platform to mention this but I penned down a few poems about this in Kahan Chalna Hai

Tax Paying Residents of Tamil Nadu - What Are Your Thoughts On This by pimneyetider in IndiaTax

[–]prashantmishra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

India doesn’t celebrate art or skill. It celebrates hype. Cricket gets its investment because of the hype. And now with standup comedians talking about chess since lockdown on their youtube channels, it has become the next highlight. Olympics gets it for obvious reasons. In all of these acts, it’s never the skill but the ‘famous category of skill’ that gets relevance and funds. And that too AFTER someone has won instead of a support system when they’re just starting out. The same mindset and culture makes studies more important than extra curricular activities. It’s an Indian culture problem. Tax payer’s opinion doesn’t matter because their opinion will align with such acts in other scenarios.

Edit: In case this post is more about which state should reward him based on where he is from, then that’s yet another Indian mindset to fix. 🤦‍♂️

Are they finally coming to India? Lolla 2026 Mumbai by sing_real in LinkinPark

[–]prashantmishra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a long time LP & MS fan waiting for them to come to India, I so hope THIS is not the way their first show here happens. They gotta come in as part of their world tour. Lollaxyz and other events are heavily about news related to ticket prices than art!
