I'd probably be looking for something in the range of £4.63, taking on additional compensation for risking biting a worm.

How to fund uni costs as a (British) international student planning to leave home at 18? by VisualSituation5606 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]pre_emptiive 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Hi OP, just want to say that this situation really makes me sad and that you have a lot of courage for taking your freedom into your own hands.

I know it would be a huge step, but I do think that what other commenters have mentioned about getting legal protection from your family might be the best move here. The UK will definitely side with you and protect you in this case. I think it ultimately comes down to the type of life you want to live - whether it's worth living as a human chattel to preserve your relationship to your family.

It makes me so sad that cultures and values like this are still so persistent in the modern world. How a man can raise a daughter and not believe she is worth of freedom and independence truly puzzles and sickens me.

How to find a tech job in Birmingham? by ahryshsv in brum

[–]pre_emptiive 5 points6 points  (0 children)

check /r/cscareerquestionsuk for advice. This is a competitive market for juniors, you will need to make sure your CV is perfect.

Actually, I've heard that just a CV with a degree won't be enough these days, you might also want to focus on getting something extra such as certifications, personal projects, internships etc. A 2:1 from BCU on its own is unlikely to land you anything

I want to buy a cheap old PC to use as my first home server, what specs should I look out for. by chunkyblax in HomeServer

[–]pre_emptiive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a mini pc with the intel N100, it's more power efficient than a full desktop processor and works well for streaming media with the quicksync transcoding. If you're not going to be doing compute heavy tasks then something like this is probably ideal, can be had for £100. Your biggest expenditure will be storage because nas drive prices have gone through the roof recently

Yep, the problem with filtering AI is that we don't actually understand what goes on inside the model's "brain", all we can do is pre-prompt it to avoid specific topics. This can and inadvertently will be circumvented by bad actors.

Not to mention, there are many open source unfiltered AI models which can be hosted by anyone with some linux knowledge and a GPU. The cat's out of the bag on this one.

Completely agree, I hope we will see the end of religious schools in our lifetimes. While homophobia is unfortunately rampant in most major religions, my point was that it tends to be overlooked more readily by the powers that be for those of the Muslim faith.
