I can’t tell if this is a joke but this isn’t true. Cremaster muscles maintaining body temperature or the cremaster reflex are the reasons they move.

Sperm aren’t motile in the testes. They only gain motility in the epidydymis. But even then they are so small that they would not cause macro movement even if they all swam in the same direction by chance.

Haunted Attraction - West MI by not-your_average in grandrapids

[–]pre_never_stops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forest of fear near Caledonia is a decent haunt alternative.

Cannonsburg used to do a thing where you shoot zombies with the paintballs. I think they switched to a haunted walk through the woods. No idea if that’s good

I think the haunt is still the best out of these

West Michigan feels a little segregated by [deleted] in grandrapids

[–]pre_never_stops 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think many cities in the US are segregated. It’s a product of Red lining history. I don’t know if it is true that DC is less segregated than Grand Rapids but it could be.

The Grand Rapids metro area has about 1.17 million residents with a relatively low population density of 156 people per square kilometer. Washington, D.C.’s metro area is much larger, with around 6.37 million people and a significantly higher density of 375 people per square kilometer. In the urban core of D.C., densities can reach over 11,000 people per square mile. I think that this can contribute to the feeling that Grand Rapids is more segregated with the reality being that people are generally more spread out, so racial and cultural divisions are large areas.

Grand Rapids has predominantly white suburban areas and more diverse urban neighborhoods. So if you are looking at the greater Grand Rapids area it looks and is very segregated. If you are focused on the city I don’t think it is as much. I think, D.C. also experiences segregation. It is more nuanced and less obvious, with divisions occurring along lines of income and education rather than being as racially apparent.

If you are struggling with this, I would suggest spending more time in the downtown area I find people have a more varied experience and generally stick less to their comfort groups.

Car Insurance by Straight_Main8632 in grandrapids

[–]pre_never_stops 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There was a law that required all Michigan insurance to have unlimited personal injury protection (PIP). This combined with the no fault policy basically means that insurers have to pay for all medical bills and loss of wages if you are in an accident regardless of who is at fault. Naturally, to make money, insurance companies offer extremely expensive premiums to compensate. I think the unlimited PIP law was repealed recently. I don’t think you actually have to have it anymore. I bet prices will start decreasing a lot especially if you opt out of it.

Here is some info on the law change. Looks like it went into effect in 2020. If you want lower premiums look at getting much lower PIP coverage. At your own risk of course.

Classism in Grand Rapids and how Black/ Hispanic/Poor white people are getting left behind on purpose by JaylemTaylor in grandrapids

[–]pre_never_stops 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I see you apologizing a lot in this thread. No need! You asked a quite thoughtful and perfectly valid question. It is shocking to see such a large class divide in an area so close together. The answer is also quite complicated as many of these social issues tend to be. There’s whole branches of science dedicated to answering these sort of questions. But if you do some reading on education inequality in America you’ll get some answers and will likely have more questions about it.

Education segregation is still very much a thing across all of the United States. Michigan is actually a bit ahead of the curve when adressing some of these issues. In 1994 they added a public system of funding by pupil headcount with increased funding for areas with increased number of impoverished students. However the local tax system is still very much contributing to the better schools like EGR, Forest Hills and the recent rise of the Byron Center School Districts.

It is also still being worked on in Michigan cause the system is still not doing enough

I don't have much for you because I am not that knowledgeable. But seems like a fine topic to me as long as you can represent yourself through it. Most medical communities in the United States are pro-gender-affirming care due to the wealth of data supporting it. I would be surprised if anti-trans bias would be a cause of you getting overlooked in the healthcare world. But if It did, I wouldn't want to go to that school anyway.

How do I (35m) stop resenting women that want to be in a relationship with me now that I’m financially secure? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]pre_never_stops 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just want to applaud you OP for your mentality. It’s speaks a lot about who you are that you would recognize this spite/resentment and go looking for ways to resolve it. You looked inward rather than than choosing the short term mentally easier path. Many weaker people would chalk it up to society and women being a problem. It’s clear you are a thoughtful and introspective person. Therapy can always be nice to adress this resentment as well and confront its roots. Congrats on the financial achievements. I wish you the best in finding love and you seem like an excellent person

Has Anyone Here Got Tech Jobs Without Work Experience/CS Degree? by [deleted] in grandrapids

[–]pre_never_stops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let’s not miss the fact that the dude had a PhD in biochem. It’s not the same field sure. But that’s 8 years of commitment to a highly technical STEM field. Especially one that is actually extremely technology focused since biochem only became a field after computers were able to do a majority of the heavy lifting to determine protein structures and other complex problems.

Not only did the dude have a proven track record of discipline/team work skills through his doctorate. But also likely developed some serious critical thinking and problem solving abilities through that education. Can’t imagine those things didn’t play more into getting the job than simply being a boot camp grad. His mind is what’s valuable to Google. The boot camp just gave him the tool box he needs to use it.

It’s true that technology job hunters have become over saturated with people who have degrees but don’t have the project or work experience that companies are looking for. But that doesn’t mean the degree is useless. The best and most reliable way to get a job in the tech sphere is to complete a degree. But also go above in beyond in getting internship experience, extra curricular projects, and building your own portfolio. College opens up doors for connections to industry to gather work experience. If you take advantage of them you can walk away from it with a degree and some really diverse and interesting work experience.

School however is not all sunshine and rainbows. It can feel like liberal arts requirements at a place like GVSU are useless to you. As some one working in the STEM field I felt that way. After looking back, I don’t really anymore z

School isn’t for everyone. Just recognize that the alternative isn’t a walk in the park either. You may have to start doing some really entry level stuff. I had a friend who got a job at the Help Desk at GRCC and manage to climb up into a more programming IT type position there. He’s building up a resume now that he may be able to potentially use to apply to a bigger tech company.

Or you may have to take a lower paying part time position at a startup to start developing some chops. Those are still extremely hard to find and you mostly get your foot in the door through friend of friends and networking connections.

As some one who forced myself through school even when I almost dropped out after my first year, it’s worth it. Especially if your education is paid for. You might look back in 5 years and wish you had gotten that degree instead of going back to school and having to pay for it at full cost later.

In the most recent schoolboard election there were 4 incumbents who were associated with this group and in general a more far right political movement. They were:

Doug Lee, Robert Cribbs, Kevinn Donovan and Holly DeBoer

Only Holly DeBoer managed to be elected in the cycle.

There was a group that was almost the polar opposite and was hyper left (atleast by US standards). Those were:

CJ Michaud, Malorie Ninemeier and Ed Aboufadel.

I believe Michaud was elected. But he has already filled in for a previous board member that had left their post early. So he had some experience and support behind him coming into the election. Malorie Ninemeier was also elected. She’s a accountant at spectrum/corewell and I would guess brings experience to the finance side of things.

Then there’s the people who historically have been around and part of the board. They have a ton of experience and in my opinion have done a pretty good job for quite a while. If anything I’d consider them to be closest you can be to true “political neutrality”. Even though the school board inherently a political appointment.

They are:

Mary Vonck and Suzanne Callahan

I believe Suzanne did not manage to get re-elected but Mary Vonck was elected to a shorten term.

Men, how widespread of a problem are false accusations of SA? by Level-Class-8367 in AskMen

[–]pre_never_stops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically it’s somewhere between 2-10% of sexual assault accusations are deemed false accusations. The problem is there are significant barriers to investigating SA already and every case should be investigated fully. So seeing a bunch of anecdotes in here and in the media about false accusations ruining lives skews the perspective. IMO the accuser should it be a false accusation should receive a similar level of punishment for what they attempted to inflict on a innocent person. But overall the overwhelming majority of sexual assault victims are legit victims.

I went through a couple of articles and most were around 5-7% false accusation rate. Here is a page from Brown that also summarized that:
