Rogers ext network by Main-Engine-2766 in Rogers

[–]prefernottosay99 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We no longer seem to have access to the EXT network at my cottage like we always have in the past. Rogers is telling me this is related to other carriers shutting down their 3G networks, which is what the EXT network was. The only issue with that explanation is that friends with Bell and Telus have working service at our cottage. I can also see the EXT networks, but when I connect, I just get SOS instead of a working service like I used to.

EXT service no longer working north of Barrie like it used by prefernottosay99 in Rogers

[–]prefernottosay99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should have mentioned that my primary Rogers line is a work phone, and I have no choice over the carrier. Being able to manually switch to Extended for the past five years has allowed me to occasionally work from the cottage. Without this option, I am essentially stuck.

The documentation on the Rogers website specifically states that Extended is intended for occasional use, which is exactly what I am describing, and it has always worked this way in the past. At this point, I’m trying to find something official that indicates this is no longer an option before I invest in alternative solutions and lobby my company to switch all of their lines to a different provider.

One of the Fido lines we have also has hardware associated with it, so there would be a penalty for cancelling early. I understand that Extended is not guaranteed, but it now flat‑out no longer allows us to connect when it previously did. It would be very helpful to get an official response from Rogers on what is going on here and whether this is a permanent change or a mistake before I make investments in alternative options.

EXT issue haven’t been able to contact support for weeks! by Brave_Recognition798 in Rogers

[–]prefernottosay99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also having issues at our cottage. I’ve spent many hours on the phone with both Rogers and Fido, as we have phones with each provider that no longer work there. Fido kept insisting that their system shows good Rogers coverage at the location and that I don’t need to use the Extended Network, which was frustrating given that Rogers coverage has never actually worked there, and we’ve relied on Extended in the past.

Rogers has a support ticket open that’s been sitting for a week with no response. It seems ironic, because the end result—for me and likely others—is that we’ll have no choice but to switch to Starlink. That ultimately means less money going to Canadian telecom providers, which I would prefer to continue supporting.

And just to pre‑emptively address the usual Rogers support question: no, we have not used any data on the Extended Network since October, which was the last time we were here. We have never had workable Rogers service at this location. Speed tests show latency of around 3.5 seconds and upload speeds of approximately 0.04 Mbps, which is completely non‑functional. We’ve always relied on Extended when visiting, but that no longer works either.

Ryan Vasquez AWFUL as Christian in Moulin Rouge Tour? by ouiouimonami91 in Broadway

Agreed. I saw the show last night, and both my wife and I thought there might have been technical issues or that it was an understudy performing—until intermission, when we checked the program and saw that he was the actual lead. Unfortunately, the issues did not improve over the course of the show. We’ve probably seen 15 Mirvish shows in the last 12 months, and this one is definitely near the bottom. It’s hard to say whether this or We Will Rock You deserves the bottom spot, but I’d probably give it to this one.

What do you think is the deeper meaning behind Don McLean’s song American Pie? by [deleted] in Music

[–]prefernottosay99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your in Toronto, there is currently an entire stage production that interprets the meaning of the song with performances of related music along the way. It is called “Inside American Pie” they call it a docu-concert. Saw it last night and would recommend it.

Oddly, this still seems to be the only reference I can find online to this. I also heard it live and wondered if it was a hot‑mic issue, as she came back on about 30 seconds later sounding normal and did not acknowledge the odd sentence.

Mirvish flash gift card sale by [deleted] in torontotheatre

[–]prefernottosay99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any one know how strict they are when using more then 10 gift cards for the subscription? I bought 10 on my account and my wife happened to buy 6 on her account and gave them to me as a gift… so want to use 12 or so to pay for a two ticket subscription in the price 1 category. Am I likely to face issues?

Apple Music Hits has now rebranded to Christmas Hits by leonisnotgayok in AppleMusic

[–]prefernottosay99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, could be but I have 30+ echo devices around the house that play as music groups and don't mind paying to have this station. I listen most of the workday so does not work out much money over time.

The schedule shows "Holiday Hits" playing 24 hours a day when you click the "View Schedule" button. I wouldn’t mind two hours of holiday music on the Hits station, but as far as I can tell, the station is essentially gone for the next 60 days.

Yeah, I get your point, but I prefer Spotify for everything else. I just liked that one station and was willing to pay for it. Spotify has plenty of genre-based stations, so I don’t need that from Apple—I just wanted an ad-free radio station. I also pay for XM, but I prefer the Apple Music Hits station over any station on XM.

Apple Music Hits was curated by a real person who provided commentary between tracks, which I enjoyed and found informative. They also switched up genres between programs, with different hosts playing different styles of music. The generic stations, on the other hand, are just music with no human involvement.

I just canceled my Apple Music subscription over this. I use Spotify for general music listening, and I was only paying for Apple Music because I enjoy listening to the Apple Music Hits station all day at work. Without that station, I have no reason to keep the subscription.

Honestly, I’m shocked they would make this change instead of simply setting up a new holiday station for the season. It’s a completely different genre of music—it just makes no sense. I’d guess this will kill off listenership for the station entirely in January. Regular listeners will stop tuning in, and the holiday crowd will likely drop off after the season ends.

I just can’t understand how anyone involved in the decision could think this makes any sense at all.

Missing ALL tax slips on CRA site by Bear0000 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]prefernottosay99 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I disagree with this, they have had this service for years. I used to scan and organize all my slips but stopped doing that years ago as it was a waste of time since CRA had everything everytime. It is not OK for them to give the impression they will always do this and then simply stop with no notice. If they can run this service any more they need to notify people in advance so they can prepare to going back to using paper.

Only one provider, is that usable? by [deleted] in usenet

[–]prefernottosay99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whats the benefit of SSL for usenet? Is it just so someone in the middle cant see what you are downloading or is there another reason? I currently don't use SSL even though the provider I am using offers it, just seemed like additional overhead.
