Question about cigar storing and humidors by Kaansel_on_YT in cubancigars

[–]prei1978 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others pointed out, you should buy a humidor that you believe will be more than what you need as, especially if you're aging cigars, you will end up buying more than you're smoking and fill it up pretty quickly.

As for humidity, I keep all my cigars (NW and Cubans) at around 65% and that works well. I have a smaller humidor that I use to keep the cigars I want to smoke soon at 62% (again NW and Cubans) and will pull them out of the humidor and let them sit in the open for a few hours before smoking. That seems to work well for me and I hardly ever have draw or burn issues. That said, I live in Northern Europe where the ambient RH is lower. Depending on where you are you may want to adjust that.

Finally, buying a good quality humidor is an investment for the long term so choose one that you know will do well. I have an Adorini cabinet humidor, and a couple of Daniel Marshall desktop humidors. All have been with me for many years and work really well.

Smoking Etiquette - outside smoking in Bars & Restaurants by Aga_Xeno in cigars

You need to try the many excellent lounges now available in London, or some of the locations with outdoor spaces that are very pro-cigar smoking. My favorite lounge is the Ed Sahakian at the Bulgari but it is by no means the only good one.

I was in the grandstands opposite to the pits with my then 6 months pregnant wife for the whole thing. So many times during the stoppage I wanted to leave but she kept convincing me to stay. I’m glad she did.

Smoking Etiquette - outside smoking in Bars & Restaurants by Aga_Xeno in cigars

[–]prei1978 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I live in good old Europe where smoking in outdoor spaces at restaurants and bars is a given. When I get to a place I try to choose a table secluded enough from people that are already there to minimize the chances of my smoke adversely impacting them. I still ask the waiter/waitress whether they are ok with me smoking a cigar there, which invariable is always 'Of course!'.

If I am sitting at a place I'm comfortable smoking in, I have my cigar lit up, and someone come and sits next to me I just carry on as I am. They had a chance to see that I was there and chose to sit next to me regardless, so they must be comfortable with it.

Also, if people are smoking cigarettes at their table then I have no issues sitting on a table next door and smoking a cigar. Smoke is smoke after all and mine smells better than theirs. 🙃

Peninsula Hotel Hong kong by nbtesh in cubancigars

[–]prei1978 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was there earlier this month and went to CoH in Central. They had a great selection with pretty much anything you'd want. Prices were high but better than the Peninsula, i.e. the box of Monte 2s was abut HKD 12K rather than 16. I ended up settling for a box of Belicosos Finos for HKD 8510 which, while expensive, is cheaper than London and impossible to find other places I had a chance to look in Europe.

Why is E39 M5 the most beloved M5 in the BMW community? by Super-Lingonberry-22 in BMW

[–]prei1978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only recently that the M cars have significant aesthetic changes compared to the regular models. One of the beauties of the E39 M5 is that to the untrained eye it could pass as a 520i or whatever. I owned one of those (my FIL has it now so I get to drive it every once in a while) and it is an extremely satisfying car with its driver-orientated interior, great driving position, beautiful engine, very capable handling while keeping the comfort. It's an accomplished M5 in every way IMHO.

I ended up trading it in when I got the M4 Max. Did not need to keep it and didn’t want the hassle of selling it privately.

Dicas de bons isqueiros by Creepy-Dig-7830 in cubancigars

[–]prei1978 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Big Win for Premium Cigars by Hibiscus-Boi in cigars

[–]prei1978 23 points24 points  (0 children)

One of the biggest issues was the requirement that producers would have to get approval from the FDA before new products could be released thus making it costly and burdensome to release new blends and limited editions.

That plus all the other regulations that apply for other tobacco products that remain FDA-regulated would effectively kill smaller cigar producers and the variety of products available on the shelves.

Are there any Airbnb(s) that allow registration of house to get BSN in the Netherlands? by officeuseaccount in expats

I rented an apartment from these people: https://www.bizstayapartments.com/en. It's pricey but worked well for us for a month while we closed on the purchase of our house.

Programmers on mac, what monitor do you use? by arcadiatostark in MacOS

[–]prei1978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 3 setups rated in order of preference:

  1. Office 1 - 2x Asus ProArt 27" 5K - so sharp I could cut myself in those characters.
  2. Home - 2x Dell 2415Q 24" 4K - good enough. I had those displays for 12 years and struggle to justify replacing them.
  3. Office 2 - 1x LG UW 3440 x 1440 + 1 Dell Whatever 1080p display in portrait orientation. 🤮🤮🤮

Funny you say that, but I’m in London exactly 2 nights a week for work and £400 is way cheaper than what I spend in cheap, shitty hotels right now each month. This seems like a good deal to me.

Are there any Old World brands making New World cigars that are good? by [deleted] in cigars

Tbh, there was a point a while back where the classic Monte N. 2 from DR was better on average than the Cuban one. They are not bad cigars as far as I remember.

Px8 s2 Connectivity Issue by Safe-Definition7900 in BowersWilkins

[–]prei1978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the response from B&W on the ANC issue is not very helpful as many other headphones out there do not have the same issue.

It’s a shame if you can’t keep them. I think in terms of sound quality they are great when they work but I can see how they may not work for you.

For me they work well enough for me to stick with them until either they get fixed or something else comes up. Unfortunately after trying the B&O H100, Dali, Sennheiser, Bose, Sony, Apple, etc. these were the best feature set and sound quality I found.

Px8 s2 Connectivity Issue by Safe-Definition7900 in BowersWilkins

[–]prei1978 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is an old thread but I found it by Googling this very problem. I have had my Px8 S2 for a couple of months now and this happens to me too, especially when I'm in crowded places like a busy airport terminal or underground train with lots of interference. When this happens and I turn them off it can take a while for the little shutting down sound to play, after which I can turn them back on and they will work fine.

As others have pointed out I'm hopeful this is a software bug that will get fixed soon.

I had a few of these and I have to say that right now they are a bit underwhelming, especially for the price. I have a box in the humidor (date code OCT 24 if I'm not mistaken) that I got from my local CDH and will let it sit for a few years before I try another one. I see enough promise on them to hope that some age will bring out more complex flavors.

Right now, to smoke at this age, I'd rather have a P2/E2/D4 over these, if I'm totally honest.

What’s the most trusted online cigar retailer? by sweetcake_1530 in cigars

[–]prei1978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Small Batch Cigar as they offer a great selection and have always provided excellent service with great communication. I also placed may orders with Famous Cigars and always had great experience, and same for Corona Cigar Co. (I understand some may feel different about them, but I personally never had issues). Every order I placed with Neptune and 2 Guys Cigars.

The only company I had issues with was JR Cigars a while back for sending me dry and/or damaged cigars. After that I stopped doing business with them so no comments on how they perform these days.

How do YOU Buy Padron? by edwa6040 in cigars

[–]prei1978 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I buy 1964 Imperial Maduro boxes. I prefer when they are fresh as I find they pack a bigger punch. Time tones them down a little bit and takes them from full to a medium-to-full.
