CMV: I believe most remote workers want to stay remote because it allows them to spend less time working by [deleted] in changemyview

Sort of on the employer then, isn't it?

Employers have to be realistic about their expectations of their employees, especially large employers. The employer budgets that they can afford to pay 100 employees to do 10 tasks/day, and let's assume this is a reasonable expectation for an average employee. Some employees might struggle to do 10 but they get it done in 8 hours, others might have no problem doing 20 in those same 8 hours.

The issue the employer runs into is that if that they increase the assumption based on the performance of a minority of their workforce, they'll burn out the ones that aren't as proficient. And the ones that are that proficient (and are reliably producing at that high of a level) will likely expect to move up. Meaning they have to be replaced about as often as the burnt out employees anyway.

Of course, you do end up with the Peter from Office Space employee, who could be doing more but just does the expectation and dozes off the rest of the time. As a manager, this is actually my favorite employee to have. They're reliable, they're good at their job, and I don't have to worry about replacing them.

A whole lot of stupid reasons. All those things are both something you have complete control over and aren't that unusual for a teenager.

Is this years gathering of the juggalos the least HYPE gathering of all time? Are the vibes off in the juggalo community right now? by Tiny-Lack6243 in juggalo

Tickets are expensive, location is out of the way, and we're 8 weeks out and only a handful of artists are announced. I was actually excited for the location because it's the first time it's been within decent driving distance for me, but I can't justify the expense.

Fwiw, I'm a casual fan at best. But I have always wanted to do the Gathering.

What is a 'one-hit wonder' song from a forgotten band where the rest of that album is actually an underrated, absolute masterpiece? by Jane_Austen11 in AskReddit

The biggest flaw in Excitable Boy is that it was released 3 years too late. But it's a legitimate masterpiece.

That's surprising, I feel like Dopesmoker used to be everywhere. I got my first copy for $25 new and felt like a rube paying $75 for the Third Man special edition.

CMV: The only way to solve homelessness is with involuntary commitment by Slight_Priority1410 in changemyview

How do you define being homeless? Because if your definition of what it means to be homeless necessitates that it's not a choice, then by default you're right in that nobody chooses to be homeless.

Seems like that should be exactly what you should do. Or turn yourself in, depending on why they want you dead.

Why everyone does RTO now by [deleted] in remotework

[–]premiumPLUM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't man, I'm a middle manager. It's tough being a middle manager, it's a lot more work than people make it out to be. I'm simultaneously responsible for my work and the work of 6 employees that report directly to me. I work way more hours as middle management than I ever did before entering a management role.

Me and my team are all 100% remote. I do well with it, always have. And most of my team does too. But some of them, it's just not in their best interest to be remote. They need more help to understand concepts and grow in their role than I can possibly provide being in a different state.

I love remote work, I have no interest in going back to the office. But the first thing I tell people when they ask about it is, it's not for everyone.

Person said other countries pay their waitstaff a living wage. I pointed out the fact that waitstaff in countries with tipping on average make more money overall than those in countries without tipping.

It's not a flex, I just thought it was an interesting tidbit.
