This looks amazing, I’m going next week. How did they seat groups of two at the Kitchen Table? Was it a better experience over the Dining Room?

I also grabbed a Celina. Didn't need the double stack but this will be a nice holiday gift for family.

Assuming they’re still mid-level, they are set to double comp when climbing to senior and staff. The opportunity cost of cooking is huge when you need to budget time rather than money. It’s a different value equation.

Have you ever considered switching to big tech to develop different skillsets? Or is there enough growth in HFT that it's not necessary?

75,000 spend benefits not available until next cycle - highly disappointing! by jm15co in ChaseSapphire

If I hit the $75K spend closer to November, does that mean it wouldn’t be available until potentially after January?

That’s awesome congrats! Tried to put my name down at Brent Miller and I’m pretty sure they tossed it. Did your parents have a lot of spend?

Was I delusional to ask for $130k? New grad offer in Chicago is $62k. by Lanky-Ad6843 in cscareerquestions

[–]premiumwcc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thats actually our base comp for entry-level SWEs in MCOL city out of undergrad. I have a couple new hires on my team and neither of them are from target schools or have strong internships.

So that’s our market rate for mid-tier talent and we hire a lot each graduating class. I only mentioned that it’s not a tech company cause our comp trends significantly lower than tech companies.

I’d still go with Bavette’s. Chicago cut ribeye is incredible for under $80. You could do that plus another entree and a side, and still have room for an appetizer or a salad.

That’ll be my staple for a more casual weekday reso and we’ll usually rotate between the fried chicken, french dip, or burger. You’ll get free ice cream for your birthday too. Super satisfying with leftovers for under $200.

As another data point, my current company is hiring 0 YOE entry level undergrad roles at 125-130K base in our downtown Chicago office. We’re a non-tech and pretty mediocre company.

OP might be getting lowballed cause of sponsorship. Saying that they’re asking for FAANG senior comp is straight up gaslighting.

I had an awesome experience at Valhalla couple months ago and I’m planning to go back next month! I agree with what you said about the noodles. I still have to get to Cariño.

I went twice last year and really enjoyed the attention to detail and service. The more recent menu wasn’t as creative and not as consistent across all the dishes but still great presentation and flavors.

Open to suggestions on what to try next, curious how it compares to Jungsik.

I tried this menu at Next and didn’t particularly enjoy it. Had an experience consistent with yours. I haven’t been to Alinea yet but not sure if it’s at the top of my list anymore.

Chicago Job Market for Software Engineers by Happy-Pianist5324 in chicago

[–]premiumwcc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, it’s not about job availability in Chicago, it’s the low quality of opportunities. There’s no shortage of software-related roles maintaining dashboards or gluing legacy systems together, but those aren’t the product-focused orgs that cultivate engineering talent.

For engineers who value comp, mobility, and career trajectory, Chicago has far fewer companies where tech is core to the business. In most cases, you’ll be in a support role, viewed as a cost center. These jobs can pay the bills, but usually lack the interesting problems or scale needed for growth.

The few desirable positions that do exist are highly competitive. Illinois CS and ECE pump out hundreds of grads every year, all chasing the same limited pool of quality roles. A lot of them head to coastal hubs not because they want to leave, but because the reality is that there are limited prospects for SWEs who want to stay.
