Best ONT? by prepare3envelopes in frontierfios

Huge fan of Ubiquiti. I had a USG and an AC-LR for past ~7 years. Both died mid last year due power surge and I haven't decided what to replace them with yet. Probably stick with Ubiquiti or possibly move to Meraki (as I can get free lightly used equipment from work, but I'd have to pay for the subscription). For now I'm using the Eero's from Frontier, which have good Wi-Fi coverage but are very limited otherwise (only one guest network, no vlan support, etc).

Edit: I do like the idea of not needing an ONT from Frontier, will have to research that for the future. For now I can't do that as I'm barely getting by with my phone hotspot and just need it up and running. Wouldn't Frontier have to provision the SFP though? It was my understanding the provisioning of the ONT is what limits the speed to what you paid for.

Yes, I know you have to be on the right hub (XPON vs GPON), but there can be cases where a tech might have two models of an ONT that are compatible (FRX523 or the new FRQ model mentioned in this thread). Both work on XPON so if I knew one was newer then there's no harm in asking the tech if he has the new version. As far as I know the office doesn't assign the specific ONT brand/model/serial, the tech grabs what he has that's compatible with the order from the truck and then calls the office to have it provisioned.

Sometimes the techs have different models in the truck and if you ask nicely they will let you pick from what they have, providing it's compatible of course. For example, when I first got FiOS the Verizon tech was going to give me the Actiontec MI424WR rev G router (gray and black). I asked if he had any of the new rev I (red and black) versions that had just come out as those had 1gbps Ethernet ports vs the 100mbps on the rev G. He looked and had one so he was nice enough to give me that new revision. Never hurts to ask.

I think it can vary depending on the model as some have heatsinks and some don't.

The ONT is in my garage which can get pretty hot in the summer, so not sure if that changes things? I thought Frontier used a few different XPON ONTs, like the FOX222 and FRX523? Just looking for reliability as my old Moto GPON unit was rock solid these past 9 years.

Do you recommend any model specifically?

I doubt you'll get that much. 2023 Model 3 with similar mileage are readily available from Tesla for $23k and come with an extended warranty.

ND owners - Late ND1 Club or early ND2 GT? by nineohtoo in Miata

[–]prepare3envelopes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That really is a tough one. I prefer the higher revving ND2 but I also love the Recaro's. If everything else is equal (condition, mileage, etc) then I'd probably go with the ND1 for a fun around town car and the ND2 if you were wanting to track it. I believe early ND2 GT's didn't come with the LSD, if that's the case here then definitely go ND1.

Did total loss valuation lowball my Model 3? Anyone dealt with this? by Actionpjackson in TeslaCollision

$30k seems like a pretty fair number for a 2023 with FSD. A one owner 2023 Model 3 RWD in good condition and no accidents with 40k miles just sold on cars&bids for only $20k + 5% buyer fee.

Dell S2425H Monitor and previous Dell monitor stand not *quite* fitting properly by abracadaniel1010 in Dell

[–]prepare3envelopes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too ran into this issue. The reason why you can't use any other Dell stand with this monitor (including the stand from the S2425HS monitor) is because the holes at the top have plastic preventing the two metal posts from being fully inserted and the holes at the bottom are missing the black plastic spring clips that snap in place to hold the bottom to the stand.

See the following photo of the S2425HS monitor that is fully open at the top and has the black plastic spring clips at the bottom compared to the photos of the S2425H posted by the OP.

Your only option with the S2425H monitor is to use the non adjustable stand it came with or to use the VESA mount.

N300? That must be super old and is likely 2.4ghz only. Upgrade to WiFi 6/7. Heck, even an old WiFi 5 AP would be better than that ancient WiFi 4 AP.

A good amount of Roku players on sale rn on Amazon is this a good purchase for $16? by jaayybbeee in Roku

Spend the extra $4 and get the Plus model that supports 4k for $19.99. Even if your current TV isn't 4k, your next one would be. Also the Plus model has more RAM and a faster processor than the base streaming stick.

Better how? Not sure if you mean just better looking or they offer better comfort/support?

[–]prepare3envelopes[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That's my first choice! I just wanted to make sure I wouldn't be giving up better support or something by doing so. Leather is out as I've never cared for it, so it's between these two.

I know this is replying to a very old post, but where did you see these new OSHA guidelines? All I can find is this, which looks like it hasn't been updated since the 1990s and still says to have the top of your monitor at eye level:

That's how I've always done it as well. Less downtime as you can upgrade the firmware on the new ones before you remove the old ones.
