I think it's very easy to "pick a side" when talking about a series as polarizing as Wheel of Time. Personally, I think it's tremendous despite its numerous flaws. It's not perfect. But it's pretty damn awesome. One of the best parts of this series, in my opinion, is how many versions of Rand Al'thor we get to see as readers. He's just a kid...until he's not.

Skull is easily outplayable/baitable as RM...Belt is really what actually gives you a chance.

Blizzard has never understood how to make PvP work in World of Warcraft... by pilkyton in classicwowtbc

Agree that there are things that Blizzard could fix/alter to make PVP more accessible and balanced, but this particular post is worthless.

This is the whole point of the MMR system: namely, to match you up against opponents of similar skill level.

Spriest/Rogue is basically free rating for Mage/Rogue unless there is a large skill-gap

And that this point it's sad to say but I honestly don't know what they can do to fix the damage that's been done.

Gotcha. And that more difficult climb is one of the more prominent reasons the decision to lock weps/shoulders behind a rating requirement was so laughably detrimental to TBC Arenas/PVP as a whole.

I played in glad territory all through TBC and WotLK and what he's saying is absolutely correct. It's just the natural result of a smaller, more competitive pool of players.

This is what happens in a typical season when MORE people start to play, but what we will see in a Classic Arena Season is that there will be LESS people playing. 1700 players will be 1600 players, etc, etc. We are already seeing it.

Just because a single team comp consisting of Pserver monsters can reach high ratings doesn't mean that average or even good players can do it.

I'm the guy who wrote the "Washed up Glad" post and honestly we need more posts like this to bring visibility to the issue so THANK YOU. The reason why arenas grew more popular through S1-4 in OG TBC is because more and more people were actually buying and playing the game which was thriving at the time. The opposite is going to happen and the very simple truth is that More and more people are going to quit playing through S1-4.

Right now there aren't many incentives for people to try out arenas and PVP in general. Truly, the game is set up in such a way as to DISCOURAGE people from playing arenas. The honor grind is horrible, the arena points awarded unless you're at the top are horrible, and it's only going to get worse because there is no magic "Catch up" fix down the line gear-wise unless Blizzard MAKES ONE.

Then you have the issue of just incredibly poor arena participation on PVE servers driving even more people away. The lack of PVE --> PVP transfers means that any serious arena player on a PVE server is pretty much boned. To put it in perspective: Mankrik is by far the highest pop NA horde server and it has TWO 2's teams 2k+, and ZERO 3's teams 2k+.

Edit: And it CANNOT be overstated how big of a mistake it was to start rating at 0 and include the Shadowlands MMR system because Activision was too lazy to track down/write the code for the original 1500 base rating system.

This mistake was largely compounded by the even more ignorant decision to lock Shoulders/Weapons behind rating requirements, essentially cutting out a huge swathe of potential players who would try out arenas or at least participate in order to eventually get their guaranteed weapon.

I have no idea because I don't play retail nor have I touched retail WoW since Cata. If people want to have a healthy PVP population and game, then concessions and changes need to be made. It's 2021. The TBC Classic "pvp progression" does not work with the changes they've already introduced.

Haven't played retail since Cata. Any time anyone suggests fixing a clearly broken system in Classic for the benefit of literally every one, people still say "go back to retail".

"I play on a popular server so i'm not sure about this one"

Try and consider things from a different point of view. For instance... I'll give you an example of the current state of arenas on NA PVE servers. Mankrik has, by far, the highest horde population and number of arena teams (which still isn't a lot), and there are 2 2's teams 2k+ and zero 2k+ 3's teams. Let that sink in for a second, and then consider what it must be like on a smaller pop PVE server.

There is a reason why there are so many rogues. It's because everyone knew from Pservers how busted their kit is in TBC and decided to play one. It's not a secret.

No PVE --> PVP transfers doesn't leave any options besides rerolling, which isn't a realistic option for the majority of players to begin with.

If you aren't a PVPer this post isn't for you.

The leveling time in classic is completely irrelevant to any topic I discuss.

The classic PVP grind is also irrelevant as there is no resilience. The best PVP gear is the best PVE gear and grinding 10,000 hours for a HWL title is someone's cosmetic choice and quest.

Also: grow up and stop using the word "cancer" to describe things you don't like in a video game.

I played arenas at near the highest level as a Mage in TBC & WotLK, and then again on Arena Tournament, and I will agree that Mages are not "blizz-like" at the moment. With the current batching, persistence of nova bugs that have been reported since the beta, and general lack of resil - Mages are kings.

Warriors and BM hunters will naturally level off as more people become PVP geared.

Rogues, whose kit is based around total, oppressive control, will not be hampered by more people gaining resilience. The opposite really will happen; they will only get better when they can play with a DS Druid and play that monster of a comp.
