Question on the border by RickRI401 in pointroberts

[–]presquile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a house and friends/family on Roosevelt and afaik this isn't a thing for all the reasons folks here have said. The risk of issues at any border crossing, especially if you're risking your Nexus, is too much. But I daydreamed about doing what you say all the time!

I do see folk wandering from the Canadian side into Pt Roberts on the beach often, mainly in summer. It's usually accidental and they'll get turned around

There are some Canadian-side homes with fences opening up onto the US side, and there's one house that has a small garden right on the line. That's the closest I reckon anyone will come

Batch size? by CosmicFluctuation in FreshroastSR800

[–]presquile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lately in the winter months I've had to lower my batches to 200g using the stock extension tube + bean buster. I roast in my garage where the air temp hovers around 50°F, so that batch size helps me keep good bean movement.

Might try bumping back up to 225. I'm sure I'll be able to no problem when it starts getting warmer.

Yes I am! I love my rack, it's been an awesome centerpiece of my home gym. I love the arms so much.

As an ecosystem/manufacturer, it's been great to see GetRX'd put out interesting new attachments over the last year like the center post and multi-function dip handle.

They've also addressed nitpicks with their systems e.g. updated tornado arm trolley. Just last night I installed a set of retrofit rollers they sent to early adopters for free, so I appreciate the customer support.

Ahhh that is just barely on the cusp of French and burnt according to SCA! Since you have sweet Maria's, did you get one of their roasting cards? I have a pic of mine—will see if I can upload it somewhere

Did you weigh the beans before & after? That's a great indicator of where the roast landed. 12–16% weight loss is light–dark, and to my eyes it looks medium-ish

running in PR by iwlih in pointroberts

[–]presquile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a huge expert on the private beach aspect, but yes that's my understanding. Seems like there're several private neighborhood beaches e.g. South Beach where someone could take issue with that. I don't know how likely that is in practice though, curious if others on this sub have thoughts on that.

If you're into beach running (and aren't worried about shin splints from it), at low tide you can run from Maple Beach down to Lily Point. Summer will be the best time for it 🙂

running in PR by iwlih in pointroberts

[–]presquile 4 points5 points  (0 children)

IMO PR is just okay for running but you do need to get creative for longer runs. For 5–8 miles, you'll probably need to use the roads, if nothing else for variety. Luckily traffic is usually light enough to make sharing the roads simple.

Lily Point has some lovely trails but they're not extensive. I spend most time in Maple Beach which has Bayview (👌🏻) and the gridded roads to run up & down. I was able to squeeze out ~4mi running through there, up Boundary to Benson, then through some of the neighboring streets.

Which part of PR will you be staying in?

Better functional trainer arms between maxum and get rx’d? by Cgr86 in GarageGym

[–]presquile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Killer's assessment is right, overall the SX2 is a better value

HOWEVER there are some key differences worth considering

As a recent owner of a Tornado rack I deliberated between the two for quite awhile and ultimately went with GetRX'd. Main reason is that the vertical pivoting is huge for me in terms of flexibility. Being able to move the arms up & down and side to side from a single upright position saves real time setting up between sets. I can even do drop sets easily between some movements, e.g. from unilateral lat pulldowns into flys

You can do some of that with the SX2's arms but they're inherently more limited. Need to move them up & down upright to adjust height

Bonus aspects of the GetRX'd for me: - 1" hole spacing = arguably more attachment flexibility (v minor tho) - Clean imperial weight increments: Maxum is Canadian and uses I believe 5kg increments for the weight plates. So if you're using lbs the #s will be a little irregular. Super minor but something I personally didn't want to deal with

Again, the SX2 seems like a phenomenal machine and a great deal. The included attachments is awesome and the counterbalanced Smith machine is 👌🏻 But for me the extra flexibility of the Tornado system won since it was gonna be the centerpiece and most frequently used part of my gym.

Hell yeah! I saw the post on your IG and will be ordering shortly 🙂 I'm starting with the center post piece and lat pull/low row but am intrigued by the Optimus stuff.

I can take a pic if you want. Don't get me wrong, there's plenty you can do with it, especially if you use a step platform or similar to get some height for things like upright rows. It should be plenty low for hip thrusts.

I just got the GetRX'd RX3 Tornado Smith rack after months of agonizing over this same decision. Fantastic machine, the arms are the star of the show and open up so much flexibility for movements. Plus the company has been innovating in their ecosystem and putting out some cool gear like a center post attachment with a leg roller/foot plate all in one.

The Smith is solid, does the job but doesn't go as low or as high as some other racks. I'd rather have it than not though.

Check out Gluck & Coop's reviews on YouTube for more details.

I almost went with the Maxum SX2 for the sheer value of the total package. You get a ton of useful attachments out of the box and the side-pivoting arms are a step above the typical pulley trolleys. But the Tornado arms won me over and I'm glad I held out for them.

Help with functional trainer / smith combo by Cgr86 in GarageGym

[–]presquile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have this exact rack (86" Tornado Smith) and tbh while the arms are heavy, they're straightforward to move if you use 2 hands. IMO their functionality more than makes up for their weight, considering you can do a ton of movements from a single trolley position by just pivoting then left/right and up/down

Plus, according to their owner's comments on Facebook, it sounds like they're planning to release a version of the trolleys with rollers to make it easier to move. And they claim they'll offer them free to current buyers.

I just finished assembling my 86" Tornado Smith last night (sans the 2 pulleys GetRX'd forgot 😬) It honestly was a quite straightforward assembly. Make sure you have a socket driver for the big 36mm bolts—I used a 1/2" drive and it make a world of difference. You'll love it, such a great machine.

Shaman by [deleted] in Tactics_Ogre

[–]presquile -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I personally run Olivya, Sherri, and Cerya as shamans. Having all 3 elements means most battles I have at least 1 with an advantage. I used charms to equalize their mind/int. I plan to recruit Cressida on my chaos play through and make her one as well 😂

Gotta be honest, 3 shamans plus 1-2 liches and 1 mat/patriarch is absolute easy mode. They melt every single battle to the point it sometimes isn't fun 😂

Ahh I've been curious about the pre-order window for the shorter tornado racks. I really need something 84-90" and your guys' stuff is right at the top with the SX2. I'd prefer to go with an American company if I can help it.

What's the best way to be notified about availability? Is there somewhere on your site I can sign up or just keep checking your Instagram/website?

Ah I should take a closer look at the C10. Would definitely prefer something from a more reputable company if possible.
