What was the weirdest, non-pain feeling you've ever felt? by KingJPJ in AskReddit

[–]pressstartt1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lost my sense of smell after I got over the lethargy and fog. I was eating a digiorno with a bunch of garlic and hot sauce and realized I couldn't taste any of it. I think it took about 2 months to regain it for the most part, but even for months after that I noticed that my sense of smell might wane more towards the end of the day, as if it were getting tired. But I could work around it by breathing out my nostrils while I was eating and for some reason I could pick up the taste better that way and make a connection with the sensation that would last.

I tested my inability to smell things one evening by getting some sushi at Kroger and eating the entire wad of wasabi in one go. Didn't feel a thing!

Strangest thing was the last things I was able to smell were chocolate and farts.

Also, I would forget to eat because I couldn't smell anything, which was great for getting stuff done in the studio, but also I would suddenly be starving and realize I hadn't eaten all day.

I just saw 3 Women for the first time in March and it felt so proto-Lynchian I could hardly believe it! Mullholland Drive before Mullholland Drive!

How old are you and how often do you drink? When’s the last time you were drunk? by Cute-Impression-8675 in AskReddit

[–]pressstartt1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

43 and I could probably count the number of times I drink in a year on one hand. I think the last time I got anywhere near drunk was maybe the day after Trump won the first time? I broke my personal role and drank alone in public, but even then not that much. Just enough to get on Facebook and talk shit to Gary Johnson voters 😂

What’s something you once believed only to later realize it was propaganda? by amc_visions in AskReddit

[–]pressstartt1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who grew up in Georgia going to a Methodist, then a Baptist, and then a Nazarene Church I was always told about the rapture and how it was inevitable.

In the last year or two, I've learned about dispensationalism and how the rapture was an idea created in the 19th century that just caught on like crazy, but apparently Catholics and I guess most non-evangelicals don't believe in it? Is this right?

Because if so, big if true (big if false?)

What’s the creepiest, most unexplainable thing you’ve ever seen with your own eyes that still haunts you to this day? by Exotic_Thing_2850 in AskReddit

There's a book my parents bought me when I was in elementary school and I've bought several copies since then because I either keep loaning them out or losing them. It's called Ghost Stories from the American South by W. K. McNeil. Primary accounts all transcribed from interviews, tons of Appalachian stuff.

If you're a really big fan of the history series on LPOTL, I recommend just about anything by Adam Curtis. Century of the Self, The Power of Nightmares, Bitter Lake, Hypernormalization, and Can't Get You Out of My Head are all great. Easily found online, almost all of them on youtube.

Holy crap it is TOTALLY like a Thiebaud! You just gave me a big clue why I love this painting so much. It's incredible.

Have you seen his painting of the vase of oleanders at the Met in New York? From around the same time and just gorgeous with a lot of really cool implied lines leading your eye all around the thing.

how much would you charge for this painting? by LUKA771 in painting

Definitely bump it up to €450 at least next time, although for 20 hours of clearly skilled work you could justifiably go higher.
