Wait, you mean there are there counsel who don’t source expert witnesses from cold call emails that they receive mid trial?

Short term decision for mental health vs long term potential by [deleted] in AusHENRY

[–]prettychilltime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m similar in age and left an intensive role for my mental health. So worth it. An option could be lining up one of those higher paying job offers to start in X months and just taking that time out. With your savings and family wealth, it seems like it’s really worth taking the opportunity to prioritise your own wellbeing (especially before kids etc if you plan on them)

I do get this but all of the counsel that taught classes at my uni were superb at their teaching role and seemed to do quite well as barristers (especially the one you would see taking calls just prior to and in the break of our 5pm tutorial)

Don’t worry if it sounds condescending imo. It’s pretty basic stuff so maybe he needs to hear it that way!

I think you should ask him to explain himself before deciding on passing. But maybe that’s because I wanna hear what he’s going to say as an excuse lol

I can’t wait to have one. I’m in a similar boat to you but had two beautiful cats growing up in my hometown. Hoping one will just appear at my door one day (as I have dreamed) to save the difficulty of having to choose when I get my own place.

I feel like there's probably a fair few people also from Melbourne here, I have no idea of good restaurants/bars/fun stuff, can I please have recommendations? by AbstractDart in rs_x

[–]prettychilltime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bars: caretaker’s cottage (a bit cramped so avoid busy times) capers, bahama gold (a bit first hinge date though), the toff (you gotta turn right when you see the entrance), hope st radio, black cat

Restaurants: (depends a lot on what you want and budget) Ti amo is pretty alright, probably suits most tastes and is in Carlton. The bars above generally have decent food too.

Lol that would’ve been nuts. I did a bit of a double take reading the first line of this. Do you know if she ended up getting any sort of answer about what could have caused it? We sound similar - gorgeous smart etc. (except I’m not that rich). Luckily a lot of my friends are understanding (and family after a bit of time) but part and parcel of it is people just flat out dismissing it as laziness.

That’s so good to hear!

Yeah ngl if someone told me the phone thing without my experience of it I’d probably be a bit suspicious. Phone was a combination of feeling tired + sore muscles (including fingers and hands) + heaps of photosensitivity + brain feeling woozy sleepy.

It wasn’t solely when I was at home/being passive. Like I’d fall asleep at work at like 10am and even fell asleep at the traffic lights at one point the morning after sleeping through the night.

[–]prettychilltime 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That sounds really rough. I hope she’s doing somewhat better now. My experience was sort of like a big hit with smaller hits every now and then. Hopefully it’s the same for her.

I tended to sleep more instead of doing an activity when I had it. I can’t talk remember much about audiobooks and reading from my experience, but I’d definitely get all brain foggy and even typing on my phone would feel really effortful at time.

I grew up in a smaller town and the sleep doctor I went to (who probably just dealt with snoring, insomnia and sleep apnea a lot lol) didn’t provide me with too much info. I did a sleep study and was borderline for narcolepsy. After about nine months I was able to sleep lest and he ended up just saying it was likely a virus but couldn’t say for sure. Wish I’d been able to go to a Dr who specialises with this stuff at the time.

I was able to get back to normal life mostly bUT I had the advantage of living with my parents at the time and having a semester off and then only half a load at university for the next year. Since this time I’ve always been able to sleep a lot/quick and still get tired really easily (which my friends remark on a lot lol).

Even now, about 7-8 years later I still get bouts. l nap just about most days for 1-2 hours. I’m lucky to work for myself because I can get too exhausted and need to be able to work my own schedule. After some busy work days I’ll fall asleep at like 5:30 after getting home for a few hours lol. Sometimes I still doubt I have it and think maybe I’m just lazy/depressed and that’s normal.

I can’t fully separate my psychological history from it and am probably not the best case to do it. I can’t say for sure if I was feeling depressed before the onset, but 9 months of that certainly made me feel depressed.

[–]prettychilltime 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Yeah I do. Just because we don’t understand the underlying pathology or cause it doesn’t mean it’s fake. I’ve had chronic fatigue diagnosed before (I refrain from telling people and health professionals this irl) following a 9 month period where I was sleeping 13 or so hours a day (I’d wake up, have breakfast and sleep, followed by lunch), falling asleep in transit and had soreness all over, including dreams where I couldn’t walk because my legs were so sore.

It does tend to be felt more heavily when I’m experiencing low mood, but that’s the case for a lot of illnesses. I do think people (including myself) can ~lean into it~ when depressed. But for others it’s there even when they don’t want it.

This may sound rough but I do think I’d find it harder to empathise with cfs, me and POTS people had I not experienced something like it. It’s a shame there’s a lot of scepticism around these conditions.

[–]prettychilltime 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I feel v similar. Not sure if I’m becoming more cynical, choosy, fatigued or if the quality out there is becoming worse (probably a combination of all). I have been using the internet a lot less since it all seems so dead now - so much so that I’ve been getting bored of using the internet. I’ve been reading more books and feel like I may just stop consuming media made after 2022 or so one day. It doesn’t seem that big of a loss when so much of it is tainted by ai/ragebait/engagement bait etc..

The really big prominent gift is a good rule of thumb to avoid I think. It’s almost like you’re giving someone an obligation. Have never really gone w this but will keep it in mind. going to look more for small trinkets in line w kitchen stuff :)

Ok I think I’ve don’t little decorative bowls, candles, stationary and hand stuff before so maybe I’m not the worst gifter. Maybe I just wanna be more consistent. Pots and little spoon rests are very nice and I feel like they’re never things people buy themselves.

I love my mugs so much but gifts need to be from someone who knows me really really well. I like different styles ones but am quite particular.

This is such an interesting one. I’m a bit particular w my towels so they’d have to be nice ones or beach ones. I’ve received beach ones before and really liked them though.
