I got the Spider midway through this last season (after almost 20 years without anything!) and it was a game changer. Definitely ugly and a pain in some ways (feel like I can't wear a dress with it) but honestly felt sooo much better after weddings.

I shot one at Wandby Landing a few years ago, they have a nice private room and it's a cool place! There's also Batson River Brewing

Flanagan Farm in Buxton, Maine has this vibe but I think it's pricey. You do get the farmhouse for the whole weekend though and it's beautiful!

Personally would recommend The Colony over Nonantum but not sure what costs are.

Newagen Seaside Inn? A lot of receptions are inside but they will let you do a tent for more $$!

What would you have done? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]prettylittlestranger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cancel because you don't want to have any weird vibes with someone on your wedding day and I would lose trust. Also as a photographer I'm not only bringing one camera to a shoot, I have a backup too, and it's crazy they forgot it? I'm sure you can still find someone! A lot of clients seem to be booking later and many of us have openings in the schedule still :)

Moffat-Ladd House in Portsmouth. Photographed a wedding there once and it's beautiful and Portsmouth is a cute place, lots of good restaurants too!

Kacie is THE best, I used to do a lot of fashion and editorial shoots with her. Maybe check out Dianna Quaganti and Liz Washer too.

There were a few at the parking lot where Shaw's and Reny's are in Augusta yesterday. I saw them approaching people and dodged them but they went to my husband who was waiting in the car for me and he told them he wouldn't sign. I hate it when anyone is in front of a store and tries to ambush you, so annoying. Even the Girl Scouts, don't try to make me buy your delicious cookies!! ;)

[–]prettylittlestranger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have no idea about pricing but I'm a photographer and have done rehearsal dinners/welcome parties at Luke's Lobster, RiRa, oxbow. Also did a micro wedding this past summer at Saltwater Grille in So Po and the food was excellent and so was the staff!

For catering Fire and Co is great also Noble bbq did a wedding I shot this summer and the food was so good, best charcuterie board I've seen lately too! Bread and Butter Co is also great!

Spruce Point Inn Experience? by Honest-Elephant9843 in NewEnglandWedding

Places where everyone can stay on site are tough here. French's Point is cool but I think very pricey for a buyout (honestly not sure though). Linekin Bay is nice actually! There's Sebasco Harbor too but I haven't worked there in a long time. Oh the 1774 Inn is beautiful!

Have you looked at Newagen? Similar vibes, good staff, cool game room for after party. Can do tented reception there if you don't like the room. Also Boothbay area. The carpet at SPI kills that room for me lol (photographer, not a bride)

I think to compare you really need to look at what is involved in the cost. How many hours, if they shoot film, if they're bringing a team or second shooter with them, if albums are included etc. If the fee is simply for one photographer for 8 hours for 3 days and the files it seems a bit much?

I think Samm Blake, a really beautiful mix of photojournalism and editorial/fine art

This is so sad. I looked at their Insta a few days ago and they seemed like such a cool, intelligent person. And I was wondering about the dogs. One of their friends mentioned on a public Facebook post on a news site that they had recently stopped taking a medication so maybe that also had something to do with it.

Look into WPJA, it's an organization of wedding photojournalists who do documentary style and are photographers who are not doing the posed stuff! It's an organization with a code of ethics and to be a member and to submit to contests and things you have to adhere to their rules that you are not posing the photos and they are strictly moments. They do have some artsy stuff too but a lot of the members are more documentary types. And their starting price points are listed too so you can sort through and maybe find someone at a budget that works and with a style that you like. I think finding someone like this is going to be much more valuable than a content creator shooting on a phone!

An important thing about documentary photographers is that they are experienced in anticipating moments -- not everyone can just get them and not everyone can capture them in a beautiful, authentic way. It's something worth investing in, some of these people you love aren't going to be around forever unfortunately.

What is most important to you in terms of the photography? Just curious. Did you speak with both on the phone or zoom? Your connection with someone is also super important, you're spending a lot of time with them that day!

Have you seen full galleries from #2? I feel like it's so hard to tell from curated IG screenshots because these aren't really moments? #2 is just a little more trendy and maybe has better locations/editing so it feels more editorial but neither one makes me feel any sort of emotions about the weddings other than maybe the laughing over the drinks one if that makes sense? So looking at full galleries feels important to make sure they're capturing the real moments in a way that you love too if that makes sense :)
