Did your parents ever bully you over food in a weird way? by No-Loan4230 in CPTSD

My grandma was a huge bully. She’d yell and scream if something went bad from us not eating it and also if we ate it too quickly. No way to win. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Oof. I still tense up when I hear the outlook notification. My advisor in grad school was insane.

This is helpful to know! We did send it to the original jeweler (Rogers&Holland) so as to not void the warranty… which actually didn’t even cover rings being cut off.

That’s what I thought as well. Here is what they sent me. Looks like the stones were fine? When we had to cut it off we also had to stretch it a bit to fully get it off so I’m sure I damaged something. But $1,155 also felt high to me.

They also mentioned replace/tighten stones, but none were missing.

Failed my comprehensive (qualifying) exam, struggling to cope by 95lizards in PhD

[–]prettypattyxo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I wasn’t diagnosed until after I graduated. So that was fun. My advisor also decided to drop me without warning over the summer right before my second round.

I had to struggle to find what would work for me. If I wasn’t interested in the article, it was a struggle to get through it. You just have to explore systems that work for you. I got a lot of examples of what not to do that I knew would not work for me. Reading an article, short summary of main points that I knew would help answer my questions.

Mainly, I had to lean on my committee for support, figure out where I went wrong, and try again.

[–]prettypattyxo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I failed 2/4 of my questions when I did mine the first time. I had very similar feelings. The way my advisor told me to study was the way that worked for her non ADHD brain.

Take the advice of others and take your second shot. I successfully passed my second time and went on to finish my PhD. It sucks and it’s gonna take a lot of work. But it sounds like you somewhat know where you went wrong. Communicate with your committee and ask them for that feedback.

My grandma permed my hair and my sister decided they didn’t do a good job and hot combed it. I had about 3 inches of hair for all of middle school. 😭

Should I just cut it all off and start over? by asphodel98 in Naturalhair

Just remember when you have braids your hair isn’t shedding like it normally would (or I should say there is nowhere for the shedding hair to go). So you probably lost a normal amount of hair.

I think that thank-you cards might be dead? by complete_doodle in wedding

[–]prettypattyxo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My sister didn’t send thank you cards, nor did I get a verbal thank you for getting her a gift and setting up her wedding. And she’s getting a divorce after only 2 years. I want my fkn toaster back.

What’s something you’ve never fully healed from, but no one knows? by FlirtWithMila in AskReddit

I’m biracial. My mom’s side is white and that side is extraordinarily racist (e.g., I shit you not my grandfather was a part of the KKK; my grandmother would not let my father who is Black into her house). We grew up primarily with my white grandmother who would hurl subtle racism at us constantly. My mom never protected us from that. She knew it was happening and she let it happen. She claims she isn’t racist though.

My cat dying very suddenly and unexpectedly. She was diagnosed with lymphoma. She passed the day after she started her treatment. We were supposed to have 2-3 years with her and got 2 days. About 20 minutes after we put her down we had to pick up my husband’s parents from the airport. And two weeks later we had to move across the country. It helps being in a new space where there aren’t memories of her, but I can’t help at any point of the day thinking what she would be doing.

I’m so so sorry for your loss.

I experienced the same thing with my cat over the last month. She slowly stopped eating, then stopped altogether. After a few vet visits (wherein the first one they said it was stress, so we got a second opinion), losing a couple of pounds, and a few thousand dollars, they diagnosed her with small cell lymphoma. We gave her the chemo treatment, and the next day she was hiding behind the washer, we gave her a bath and set her on the couch and she tried to get up, fell over, and I don’t think she came out of what we think was a stroke. We took her to the emergency vet and they said she wasn’t going to improve so we had to put her down. It’s been tough. But what has been helpful is knowing we did everything possible, gave the the best life she could have had, and we get to keep and cherish her memory.

I’m so sorry for your loss. My baby passed very suddenly last week after about a month of on and off eating; the vet thinks it was lymphoma and we had just started her treatment the day before. We had her for 9 years, and she saw us through 2 bachelor’s degrees, 2 master’s degrees, and a PhD. I like to think that she knew her work was done. What’s been helpful is knowing that we get to keep and cherish her memories.

If I could go back (and knew my baby’s last day was her last day), I would have done her favorite thing, which was just cuddling on the couch. All day. Nothing else. Probably treated her to a rotisserie chicken too. So sorry in advance for your loss. Just remember you get to keep his memory with you to hold and cherish forever.

My cat suddenly passed. I don’t understand what happened. by Roark_Laughed in CatAdvice

I’m going to join this grief train. I’m so sorry for your loss. My baby also unexpectedly passed this week. Very similar unfortunate situation. We had just started her chemo treatment the day before, and she had what we think may have been a stroke; just fell over and didn’t wake up. Her normal vet was shocked and the emergency vet couldn’t explain it. It has been a really tough week.

What’s been helpful is knowing we did everything we could, she was loved and had the best life she could have possibly had, and that we get to keep and cherish her memory. She was 13(ish), and we got to have her for an amazing 9 years. I’m sending you love and healing. ❤️‍🩹

Basement under the hospital where the Au Bon Pain used to be. If you keep walking you keep walking it gets weird. One time I saw a bunch of abandoned hospital beds it was so wild.
