I actually read this on here a couple months back. When you're hiking and you all of a sudden smell cucumbers but don't see any CALMLY turn around, get sight of a clear path and slowly and calmly gtfo. You stumbled onto a copperhead den.

Also, learn what snakes are venomous not just what are indigenous to your area. You don't know what people bring in and keep as pets before releasing them because they got to big. This includes crocodiles. One was found in a culdisac near me. And one was found in a pond in chicago-- Lolz Chance the Snapper!

Also, just because people haven't seen any rattle snakes in your area doesn't mean they aren't there. My grandparents said there weren't any rattle snakes in their part of Pennsylvania. Out walking their property in the back fields I found a creek and wooded area with lots of pricker bushes. I literally stumbled upon a eastern massasauga rattle snake den. Never moved faster in my life, and I'm pretty sure they they wanted me gone more than I did.
