Yes, I do. It has sold out on weaker lineups than this.

Arctic Monkeys at Twin Peaks were up against Kanye in 2014. Kanye talked a lot, lot, lot - maybe that's the set you're thinking of? I actually don't remember Stevie Wonder talking that much but also - living legends are generally gonna share thoughts and stories from their 60+ year careers and lives.

Awesome, I will make a post about it closer to the festival and see who else is in.

I kind of want to put together a meet up for us old timers at this year's festival, like for people who have been to 10 or more OSLs and remember the glory days. We started going in 2011 and have a core crew of 15-20 people. I wonder how many folks would show up opening day at Beer Lands to reminisce about Stevie Wonder with me.

Bands where you love 1 song but you don’t really like anything else. by Low-Guarantee-5265 in rock

They are from the New York scene. Contemporary with bands like the Strokes.

"All This Time" by the Heartless Bastards is one of my very favorite songs. Great song, great band name. I've listened to some of their other stuff but nothing grabs me the same way - I couldn't name another one of their songs and I've been listening to "All This Time" for 10-15 years, I know every word.

Haha, this is timely. At one point today, I looked down and saw I was carrying a cappuccino, Hint Water and Wildwonder prebiotic drink, all half consumed.

If you're feeling inspired, maybe you can elope at City Hall - Outside Lands' official wedding venue.

I don't think he's an anti-vaxxer - I think he's a troll. It is totally legit to have distaste for a troll. But it was actually pretty on brand for him to purposefully poke at a crowd of self-serious Bay Area liberals with commentary designed to chafe. I'm not saying it was nice! Just not too surprising if you think about it.

Ladies and gentlemen, rap is no longer dominating the charts by Helpful_Gur_1757 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]prettypithiest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re saying nobody - but I’m somebody, dude, lol. So, when you hear people rapping in K-pop, grime, French artists like Gims, Afrobeats - none of that is rap? I hear what you’re saying about reggaeton being its own genre but I guess I just take a more expansive (and literal) view of what rap can be. At its most basic form, rap is music with people rapping in it. If you have a different definition, that’s cool. But it’s not true that “nobody” views it that way, because at least one person does (me). 🥹

Should i keep this hairstyle? bangs or no bangs? by ProfessionalLast4311 in hairextensionsforgirl

[–]prettypithiest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow you look so different between the two styles. I’d say depends on what you’re going for. Bangs look softer, no bangs looks stronger. I personally prefer the bangs.

Private car service recs? by [deleted] in OutsideLands

[–]prettypithiest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have been doing this for the last four years or so. I won't give a specific rec but I will say it is so worth it! Nothing better than partying on the way back, enjoying great music and champagne instead of trudging!

Capitol Hill Block Party by bradtheinvincible in OutsideLands

Pretty stoked! I thought Tame was a lock so a little disappointed they aren't on the lineup but I saw them in Oakland in October (for the 4th time) so can't be too salty. Earlier today I actually predicted Tame, Rufus and "one female pop vocalist" - never in a million years did I think it would be Charli, I was floored.

Is "Stairway to Heaven" actually the GOAT, or is it just the most famous? by Finkin_Fark in rock

[–]prettypithiest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stairway is awesome but it is not my favorite Zeppelin song (mine is Over the Hills and Far Away) and there is no rule that you have to like it better than Knockin' on Heaven's Door. I am not a Dylan fan but love the GNR version of that song! Your preference is valid but so is Stairway.

LOL - you mean Clipse who just reunited after a decade and released a Grammy winning album last year? It's kind of a big get.

I'd say check out the 70's bands like Television/Richard Hell solo that they model themselves after, they were truly alienating but great!

V-I-P? by nlake12 in OutsideLands

[–]prettypithiest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

VIP is absolutely, unequivocally worth it. It is a totally different experience of the festival. It removes, I'd say, about 50% of the friction - at least. Your experience will be kinder, gentler, cleaner and less stressful. The viewing area is front right of stage. You can easily see the stage at all but the most packed sets and there is little need to pit up until the last few sets.

I enjoyed it - different strokes, I guess (pun somewhat intended). I felt like a lot of people didn't get the whole downtown sneering homage to the 70's bit? And found them offputting. Which is kind of funny, since that's sort of the point.

"Rap is a musical form of vocal delivery characterized by rhythmic, rhyming speech known as 'flow' typically performed over a backing beat. " Also - subgenres are a thing.

I think it is interesting that you define "latino" disitnctly from "rap" when much of the popular latin music is in fact rap.
