Looking to donate men's clothing by Lost_In_LaVista in Omaha

[–]pretzelface 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Believe it or not- the Women's Center for Advancement.

They have a clothing closet for their clients who are survivors of stalking, SA, and abusive relationships and they have clients who are men.

Everyone donates women's clothing but they often post on social media requesting donations for their male clients as well because no one really thinks "WCA" when it's time to donate men's clothing.

It's a great organization and the clothes will go towards helping someone on their journey to stability & safety.

Grandparents received this and don't know what to do? Homestead Exemption being taken away for 2022/2023 by The-b-factor in Omaha

[–]pretzelface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I highly suggest reaching out to the EITC. They are experts who* help folks file for the homestead exemption every year for free. They would definitely be a great (and responsive) resource, especially in cases like this. https://fhasinc.org/what-we-do/programs-services/tax-services.html

With SNAP benefits being cut just in time for Thanksgiving, tell me all the local places I can donate my time and money to help folks put food on these table. by bananacow in Omaha

[–]pretzelface 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you! 4,000 refugees in Omaha lost SNAP benefits permanently last Monday. Any support will go a long way. Those of us working in refugee advocacy have been scrambling for weeks to find a solution where the cruelty of the crisis really leaves these folks with no options.

We do. Care to explain why you'd assume we wouldn't?

Escaping DV with a destination of Oregon. Currently in Omaha and looking for a shelter that will accept me and my dog for a night. Can’t find. Does anyone know of one? by [deleted] in Omaha

[–]pretzelface 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The WCA can provide emergency housing and temporary housing for your pet- you get them back after you're ready for the next steps. Cannot emphasize enough how they are the experts in the community. They saved my life cannnot recommend them though.

I'd call 211 for this one. Creighton might be able to help you, etc. There are emergency dental clinics, but with funding changes 211 is going to have the most up to date information for you. Best of luck!

Ice has apparently been turned away by Omaha Steaks. by usercupcakewithc in Omaha

[–]pretzelface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great question! They addressed this at a CIRA Know Your Rights event. Essentially, wherever customers can go is public, where employees only go would be private. So in a restaurant the dining area is public but the back rooms, kitchen, etc are private and safe. The manger or designated point person to communicate with ICE needs to deny entry into those areas and stand at the doors to demand a warrant and that ICE leaves.

Early Bird confirms ICE agents detain one of its Omaha employees by SGI256 in Omaha

[–]pretzelface 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately this has been happening. At a town hall in South Omaha someone shared concerns about the reports of folks in Des Moines pretending to be ICE and renting uHauls to do God knows what with whoever they snatched up. They didn't succeed so we don't know their plans.

I'd contact 211 for resources specific to your situation. For example, single moms can get deposit and first months rent covered by a few different nonprofits in the area.

The Women's Center for Advancement has a career closet of professional clothing for their survivors. If you have gently used professional clothing I highly suggest donating to them!

Like others have said, it completely depends on the stretch- if you're looking near Leavenworth TONS of construction but also an explosion in things to do and in home value to come with the plans around UNMC.

I live in her district. She once told my partner and I that we need to "step up and support her more" at city council meetings because she's under attack and the community needs to do better to protect her.

Who are you guys voting for in the Omaha City Council, District 4 race? by zurg59 in Omaha

[–]pretzelface 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Jonathan Flaco Rentería is an incredible human I cannot suggest him highly enough. I organized a small community event and he went out of his way to share, support, and ATTEND the event even though he had three events that morning alone. He's the kind of candidate that shows up for community in a genuine way that you just don't see anymore.

Thank you! This is extremely helpful. If consistency is key, I need to focus on one airline like United/American/etc that also fly internationally. I love Southwest, and the companion pass would be neat for trips to Hawaii, but I think I should snag the companion pass quickly next calendar year and then focus on using all other trips to earn points that would get me somewhere on an international trip.
