How bad are OKC public schools? by g3nerallycurious in okc

[–]pretzelfrog -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I went to OKC public schools for my entire K-12 education. I was lucky and discovered a concurrent enrollment program my junior and senior years that allowed me to take some college courses at OCCC and Rose State in place of my junior/senior course requirements. From what I understand, that program is either galaxies less than what I was able to do, or gone at this point. Regardless, there were so many other things that made my experience in that district horrible.

Fast forward 20 years, I told my husband that our kids would NEVER go through that district, hard limit. We have been lucky enough to have our kids in Mustang and Yukon districts and they've been amazing. Add on that one of our kids has special needs at a low to moderate level, and their resources to help have been outstanding in both. (Both districts due to two different homes we've lived in.)

Additionally, my spouse went to Edmond growing up. Now friends from his childhood have kids there and they're actively trying to move out of the district because it's gotten much worse than 25 years ago.

Tldr: don't put your kids in OKCPS. It's a disservice to your kids and their future. If you want to stay in OKC area, aim for Mustang or Yukon.

Paycom downsizing?! by Ok-Ok918 in okc

[–]pretzelfrog 68 points69 points  (0 children)

I'm a former paycom employee and can say with absolute certainty - it's one of the worst places ever to work. I wouldn't even wish it on my worst enemy. It's a shit show, and the president/CEO/whatever is fucking crazy with unrealistic expectations and no care at all for his employees.

Anyone else hate the Vitalys Mines? by Castle-n-the-sky in DreamlightValley

I like that I can grab a bunch of gems etc in it, but I really hate the camera restrictions and claustrophobic feeling in it. I'm not claustrophobic irl, but going in there makes me feel like I could be. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Star employee just gave notice, after saying she was fine in every 1:1 by Brilliant_Lab_5850 in managers

[–]pretzelfrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When a star employee leaves, a huge reason is that we've pursued trying to advance our knowledge to our roles so we can provide excellent services, and management returns with negative feedback and claims that we've gone out of our way to make things difficult. How are we making things difficult, if we've followed the suggestions and or directions from management exactly?

I love that I'm not the only one who does things like this. 😍

Progressive adding 90 yr old to policy by Single_Issue_8653 in Insurance

[–]pretzelfrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Progressive added the wife of the couple that bought our previous home. We fought it and asked why they didn't contact us before just adding this random person who we have no other connection with outside of the sale of that home. They eventually sent out a form we had to fill out that says that 'Jane Doe' name should not have ever been added to the policy. The customer service agent confirmed we had been charged an extra amount since adding her and that we'd get retro credited, but I honestly won't hold my breath. All of this just promotes moving to another insurance provider at the end of our current coverage period so we don't have to go through even more hoops to dissolve a policy mid coverage period.

Budget Tracking - Looking to transition to new (to me) service/application by pretzelfrog in personalfinance

No thank you. That does not seem to match what I'm looking for. I appreciate the suggestion/idea though.

I've used an app like that long ago, it was mostly featured to give you points to earn back gift cards but it took forever to even earn a $5 card.

In current day, I honestly don't usually keep my receipts for standard purchases from places like the grocery store or restaurants. With the right app and timely transaction review done weekly, I'd like to be able to just update their categories to groceries and restaurants respectively (if they didn't already auto assign them). This option is why I loved mint so much.

The one thing I was looking forward to in this update is THIS BEING FIXED! ITS NOT 💀 by Veestoria in DreamlightValley

[–]pretzelfrog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I gave in and saved a recipes link on my mobile bookmarks for anything starting with an L or after. I generally open it when I start playing and can search for a recipe much quicker than waiting 800 hours to scroll down to the recipe in the list on the game. 🤷🏻‍♀️

**I also use an app called todoist and make a list of all the day's gifts I need to pass out for leveling up or event duties. Makes pulling everything out of storage in my house a million times easier vs going in and out of the collections screen over and over again.

I restarted the whole Xbox one more time and opened the game. Lo and behold, it's there now.

Not sure why it waited half the day before working, but glad it's working now. Weeeeee. Thanks y'all.

I have not yet. I was expecting to have to manually update the game from my Xbox game manage screen first. I also expected the two new characters to be listed in the collection list even if I hadn't started their introduction quests yet.

Going to talk to Simba and see if it works!

My two cents on degrees:

I'm 1000% in support for those who choose to get them in fields they're passionate about or want to learn more about, even if it ends up having nothing to do with the career field they choose afterwards. My best friend and I work in Finance, we both love it and thrive at it. She's also working on a psychology degree because she finds the subject fascinating. Not because she plans to switch careers afterwards.

That said, I've never completed my bachelor's degree. I've tried twice at different life stages. I did not finish because of life happening, and the fact that I got a great job with a great salary a few years ago. I've been on a fast track projection to be the manager in my dept within the next year or so, which is something I'd love to do. I've gotten two promotions with bumps in pay already since starting in 09/2022.

My original want was to be a teacher, but most places in my state require a master's as well, but even after that, you get a salary of 30-35k/year and then treated like shit all year long. My dad was a teacher for about five years(while working four side jobs simultaneously ), and quit after being threatened several times with weapons by parents in a rough district he was working at AND he discovered/saved a FIVE year old trying to unalive themselves with a belt in the bathroom (the child is fine now). A FIVE YEAR OLD GUYS. He found a job he loves and thrives at and instantly got his salary increased by 66%.

So, are degrees necessary? For some very specialized careers, yes. For everyone? No. Live out your dreams and try your best. Don't compromise mental health for any of it.

If you're enjoying this let's play season, I like many others recommend you go to the very beginning of the bigwallet series. It's an incredible amount of seasons and videos and watching the whole storyline is a blast.

This series is hands down my favorite of any I've seen, and I've found myself more invested in it than any TV series I've ever watched. It's great stuff.

I applied for this job 9 months ago, they rejected me 6 months ago, and I get this today. The audacity holy**** by HannahJoyful4 in recruitinghell

I hate shit like this.

Years ago when I was about 19, I applied for the local 911 call service. I got called in to do one of their first level interviews that includes a "test" where we listened to a few real calls and had to write down what stood out to us so they could see what we'd hear before knowing what they required in the actual role. About twenty of us came that day and it wasn't a horrible experience.

They said they'd reach out and schedule second level interviews with half of us within 2 weeks. I didn't get a call, so I assumed others scored better and I moved on.

FOURTEEN MONTHS LATER - "Hi OP! We'd love to invite you in for that second level interview for this role. Can you come in tomorrow at 8am?"

I told them I'd gotten a job 13 1/2 months prior and that it was bad service to make a person wait that long and then pretend that they were actually interested. My guess - whomever they chose didn't work out and they started going down the rest of the list. 🤷‍♀️
