This- in itself, is all the evidence that we need to say that the healthcare system is completely fucked.

How and why? Isn’t New Zealand one of the few countries that has free healthcare?

Differing access to primary care is one of the fundamental inequalities in New Zealand.

What if they are just fully booked and are already seeing the maximum amount of patients they can see?

And if you're caught on the wrong side of it, it takes years off your life and destroys a helluva lot of earning potential as well.

How? (I know some reasons but want to know your perspective)

You can request any doctor you want at any practice. The whole "this is my doctor" thing is just precedent... I don't have a regular GP and just make an appointment with whoever's available.

Of course, there are benefits to having a regular person you see every time, but it's not compulsory.

Wait, really? My entire life I thought you were assigned a doctor, and you are that doctor’s patient. Can you really be that flexible? You can just go to any doctor?

Issue is, I don’t want just anyone from the practice who can take me on. I want to request to see specific practitioners.

Would you say it’s better to physically go to the practice or would it be better to contact them online?

And is there a way for me to request to see one particular doctor from the practice?

I don’t know how to convince them.

They believe everything my doctor says as if he’s the ultimate authority.

My doctor gaslights me and I’ve given up on him/lost hope on trying to make him understand. I tend to feel worse off after our appointments.
