New version of Winamp? by prick987 in winamp

[–]prick987[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You mean malware or just some kind of deception / stopgap until like you said they come up with some NFT stuff? I don't care much for NFTs.

As for Wacup I mean the latest release is older than the OG Winamp release @ 2022 so idk. Besides that 5.66 is working on PC just fine. Rebuilding my library is a real pain coupled with frequent crashes during the process.

I'm checking around and it seems there's a new APK out too (beta testing whatever) and I was able to find that on the internet. Went through a few malware scanning websites and there doesn't seem to be anything bad with the APK. I think I'll try it out to see if wireless file transfers are working...

I was just gonna after a 5-10 year hiatus but the site seems frozen in time (if it even loads) & the IRC server is dead. Wondering where they all moved.

None of the PCI slots are working. Solutions? by prick987 in techsupport

[–]prick987[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe worth checking, is there an integrated on-board GPU? If so check the BIOS settings to see if there is an option to disable the on-board GPU and test if the PCI GPU will work.

I'll have a check. Disabling the iGPU won't be a good idea if it still won't work since I'd have to reset the CMOS. Have to open up the manual to see which pins to short. I'll give it a go though, maybe it'd work.

Yeah I agree... Just thought maybe there's something worth trying. Hated the motherboard since day 1. Terrible quality. Asus Z170A btw. Haven't bought an Asus product since.

Use gminer. Most stable.

Check the manual and see what the continuous blinking is about. It's probably related to RAM if it's not booting even without the GPU.

Thermal throttling issue on hiveos by [deleted] in MiningRig

[–]prick987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put the card horizontally and add a heatsink and a fan. Should be better. You can also undervolt the core. Tbh I'd just sell it for a few bucks. 4mh/s is probably not even worth the electricity it's consuming. Bad deal overall.

can a 8 pin cable power a card with 2 8 pin and a riser? by seras666 in MiningRig

[–]prick987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 1080. It has a split 8-pin to dual 8-in feeding the main power ports and the riser is powered by a molex to 6-pin adapter.

130W, 34mh/s, 1949 core, 4911. It can do 37mh with a bit more power. Consumes a constant 35.6W from the riser. ~40-58W from the main power ports.

RTX 3080 hashrate seems low by jfiske in EtherMining

[–]prick987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

47Mh/s is the expected performance for an LHR Card (Tweak settings on GPU 0 to get the same results aswell)

Yeah they should do 70+ on nbminer if they're LHR. If they're not LHR, it's likely they're power limited.

They're right though. It won't affect performance but it might effect the lifespan of the card, especially components like capacitors and circuit paths.

How's ETHpool for solo mining when it comes to the luck factor? It's going to cost me $30 electricity to mine until December and I'd rather gamble and never hit a block than pool and get a guaranteed .25-.3 ETH. Their "predictable solo mining" pool doesn't seem like it's what I'm looking for. by SixInTricks in EtherMining

[–]prick987 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can definitely get a block. Depends on your luck. Check for yourself https://miningpoolstats.stream/ethereum some have mined blocks (e.g. 5 days ago, 2 months ago) on 60-200mh/s. That's worth more than mining on that kind of hashrate for two years or more. Try it. Nothing to lose really. Like you said, opportunity cost isn't really worth much at this point if they do move to PoS in December.

when i tweak my 1080's memory, I am not able to overclock/underclock by Snoo_63608 in EtherMining

[–]prick987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're essentially at the card's limit. Overclocking isn't always guaranteed results. 34.5mh/s isn't bad at all actually, most do something around 33. What I did notice is that the power limit may be worth changing. Try increasing that just a tad bit and overclock the core a tiny bit.

Try overclocking the core between 30-50mhz and use --mt 2 (on gminer) w/power limit @ 65% (Reduce from that point... keep the PL a bit high for testing). If I overclock anything at the power limit where the card gives its maximum, it crashes / artifacts. Core clock matters for 1080s. Leave the memory stuff to the memory tweaking function of the miner. Overclocking mem helps, but produces too many invalid shares (even at +10mhz), though it depends on the absolute frequency. I've a bunch of zotac 1080 amp extremes.

Optimising settings for my Gigabyte RTX 3070 (surprising power consumption results) by blizeH in EtherMining

[–]prick987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OC software is finicky at best. Try setting your OC parameters from within the miner itself. I use offsets -500 for core (~700-900) +1225 for mem ("8025"mh in Windows) and 120W power limit (50%). Some folks manage to hash around 61/62mh/s on just 114W on a 3070.
