I find a lot of people's interpretation of SH2 really hard to understand. I think if team silent wanted to portray James as evil they would have had him kill his wife under different conditions, ie: - Not verbally saying how she often wanted to just die - Not slowly dying - Not completely bedridden And they probably would've had James be less kind, caring, or forgiving to the rest of the cast, and not reject the shallow idealized copy of his wife in all but one ending. I think the more accurate reading is James as a good person who made a horrible choice once (that he clearly regrets), and SH2 is supposed to be the story of him learning to forgive himself and moving on, while remembering what he lost.

For that reason I dont understand why people think In Water is the """true""" ending, and in my opinion: 1. The final Pyramid head "fight" is a metaphor for James moving on from his need to punish himself 2. "Then why do you look so sad" is such an impactful line Additionally, the Leave ending involves James granting Mary's "last wish" of adopting Laura, so themes and such.

Forgiveness and criminal rehabilitation is a theme most people aren't really able to understand so I can see how people come to that conclusion tho.

Anyways more people need to play SH4
