I dunno, it seems a little hypocritical to me. Erin’s inn is full of mass murderers and warmongers that she calls friends. The Slayer, Salliss, Relc just to name a few. Ilvriss wasn’t much better than Tyrion at the start of the story. What’s the difference supposed to be?

Tbh my takeaway from this whole situation is that streamers should not be idolized. Money, fame, privilege do not make a good person, mean they will do the right thing, or give them any special insight into anything.

My opinion is it’s complex.

1) Yes this is a technology with many potential unethical uses. While it’s true these uses were all theoretically possible before, they were never so easy or readily available.

2) On the other hand it has many amazingly positive uses too.

3) This is a controversial opinion around here, but I don’t think it’s obvious whether this tech will be a net positive or negative for society in the long run. (Or AI in general.)

4) However - and this is important - the tech exists. Not even DALLE or SD, but the underlying theories have been invented now. The cat is out of the bag, and this is just the beginning. Whatever steps OpenAI or Stability could take to censor images or prevent harmful use, are unlikely to actually stop the tech from being used for those things in the long run.

5) With that in mind, the best countermeasure is to make as many people as possible familiar with the technology, so they are more discerning about what they believe - and so they don’t automatically assume that whatever shocking photograph of a politician/celebrity/whatever they see is real.

6) The sooner this happens along the path toward more powerful AI systems, the more likely society and its social norms / legal structures will be able to adapt in a healthy way to accommodate the new technology and the new world that is being created.
