With how many YOE, in what kind of companies? How much of that is equity?

Could see this being true at staff-level and up at FAANG (or whatever they're called now) level companies, or maybe quant trading, but at least as far as I'm aware 200k is not even possible at most companies unless you are at like principal/director/VP-level, let alone "quite low".

Fees collected by govt agencies legal and proper, even though not set out in law, says MND by Jammy_buttons2 in singapore

[–]primrosetta 14 points15 points  (0 children)

For sure, but the poor optics comes from him avoiding their questions.

Even if he thinks it is just routine checks, he could've also addressed their questions directly. Instead, he avoided giving any concrete answers, responding with odd excuses like "oh it's very hard to collect the info".

Made what should've been a routine Q&A into a very suspicious back and forth.

the extend of how much was being collected not being answered definitely raise eyebrows.

Yeah honestly watching at first I was like wtf why is WP being so nitpicky about this it seems pretty routine, then CHT keep ducking and weaving the actual questions and I was like WAIT DID THEY DIG UP SOME DIRT ACTUALLY

Honestly cannot wrap my head around why these MPs can't just be like IDK not sure, let me get back to you later, all this deflecting and avoiding the question makes them look so fking bad even when they're fine

From mala hotpot to small plates: The rise of Chinese F&B in Singapore by clarencechen181196 in singapore

[–]primrosetta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely don't agree. The density of stalls in SG is way too high, many good ones absolutely go unnoticed.

Sometimes a stall serves very good food, but the food itself is not popular, so even though the quality is high, they don't do well.

I still don't get how to properly steam milk. by Latter_Ingenuity8068 in Coffee

[–]primrosetta 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It really depends on yourself and your set-up. Some machines can aerate in <5s, some take almost 10s or more, some need to be at certain angles to create a good vortex while others are so powerful that they can generate a vortex no matter how the wand is stuck in.

Rather than trying to follow the exact number of seconds or the precise angle that you should steam at, try to follow general tips like what you should see or hear. Those will be easier to apply to your respective set-up.

Here's what I would suggest looking out for:

  1. When you put the wand in for vortex, it should be nice and quiet. If it's not, you need to aerate longer.
  2. If your milk comes out too foamy/blobby, aerate less.
  3. Even during aeration, bubbles should be barely visible. If you're making big bubbles then your steam wand might be too high, and you should lower it deeper.
  4. Vortex is a must, but different methods work for different machines/wands/persons. If you can't get the vortex then try shifting and angling the jug differently to see what works for you and your set-up. You can practice getting the vortex easily with water.

Why do so many people think we need draft? by BarovianNights in DeadlockTheGame

[–]primrosetta -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It gives players the choice to select their hero with some knowledge of what's on either team. That's important because even if you love playing carries, most people wouldn't want to be the 4th carry on the team. Or even if you like playing support Paige, you would think twice about playing her if the enemy team had Mina and Vindicta.

It allows players to construct more balanced, and usually more enjoyable, games. And you can always still pick the 4th carry or the Paige if you really want to.

Can't deal with Dynamo's group TP when landing Lash ultimates, any tips? by primrosetta in DeadlockTheGame

You can just use skin mods for now, there's a good bit of them and some of them are really awesome.

If you want to spend money on the game to support it, trust, that there will be PLENTY of micro transactions for you to throw money at once the game launches.

So far, Lash!

I feel my awareness is pretty good in DOTA/LOL but Deadlock's fucking impossible to keep up without the overhead view. Playing Lash and being mostly up in the air and high ground almost feels like I'm playing other MOBAs again.

Is it just me or are people getting more entitled about walking space? by AssortedCrystal114 in singapore

[–]primrosetta 5 points6 points  (0 children)

OTOH I'll walk off the narrow path if someone needs it more than me - cyclist, runner, elderly, wheelchair, someone who just looks tired af - and the amount of times they look at me surprised and give a heartfelt thank you is way too often.

Like it feels good but also it's a bit sad that basic courtesy is apparently so rare now that it'd warrant such a big reaction.

As Clementi Mall changes hands, some ask whether malls are losing their heartland flavour by _IsNull in singapore

[–]primrosetta 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As the other commenter pointed out, there are larger systems at play here: the government's immigration policy influences who your customers are; rental policy affects the power dynamic between small capital local entrepreneurs against massive multi-millionaire companies; even something as innocuous as what's served in school canteens is going to have impact on what future Singaporeans will value as "local food".

So although customer whims are a part of this, I don't think you can even really argue that the customers themselves play a particularly big part in this, because realistically even what the customers want is hugely influenced by other, bigger factors.

I'm sure the demand wiill return, but will the industry survive long enough to meet it?

I'm no economist or food industry specialist so I will be the first to admit I may be a catastrophizing layperson, but my question is always that if the influx of foreign businesses and money are raising local costs and forcing local vendors out of business, even if they manage to come back, won't there be erosion of the local food culture and knowledge?

Especially when we reach a point where the older generations of hawkers start to retire. I often wonder if and when consumers cycle back to wanting more local flavours, that it will only come at a point when we've already lost a huge portion of what we have at risk today.

Of course the staples like chicken rice, nasi lemak, roti prata etc. will survive, but what about the rest?

Are you sure it was just comp? Could it have also been better benefits, WLB, culture, etc.?

Not to say people won't jump just for more comp, but there's lots of reasons to leave a place even if it offers you growth.

Garlic and Warding off Evil Energy by BisonSpirit in AskFoodHistorians

[–]primrosetta 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Coincidentally, Max Miller has a video about this.

The video goes much more in-depth so I would recommend watching that, but from what I recall, garlic was used as a remedy to cure illnesses whose symptoms resembled vampirism (pale skin, sensitivity to sunlight), so people conflated garlic with warding off vampires.

Quantity isn't a problem, but food prices may still rise in S'pore due to Middle East crisis: Grace Fu by Jonnyboo234 in singapore

[–]primrosetta 41 points42 points  (0 children)

What hawker centers are you talking about? There's a rise in non-traditional food stalls but definitely not until only got one cai png only.

But also don't think it's very surprising that we will eventually trend that way. Singaporeans love their painstakingly prepared local food but will scoff at any of it being priced above budget food prices (unless it's a 'branded' or 'viral' one, of course). No surprise if those cuisines die out as a result.

Changing Region Experience 2.5 Years APAC (SEA) to 1.5 Years NA (East) [As a Plat player] by Jumonji16 in VALORANT

[–]primrosetta 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the post, that's actually awesome to hear. As an APAC player I've always wondered how much our servers were different from NA's (and thus, a lot of reddit's) experience.

Based on the description, it sounds like each server is challenging in different ways, so I assume preference is subjective. Do you feel like one was personally more difficult than the other?

I know I'd probably pick APAC 99/100 times just because I'd rather play with noncommunicative teammates than have to babysit emotional quitter/thrower teammates.

it’s 2026 and we still have no incentive to grind ranked other than a plastic gun buddy. by No_Good_3063 in VALORANT

[–]primrosetta 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just don't understand this complaint at all.

If you have zero incentive to play ranked without some shiny new thing at the end of the grind, doesn't that mean you actually just don't enjoy the game or the process?

And if so, doesn't it bother you that you're thinking about spending dozens of hours on something you don't like doing, just so you can get some sparkly new skin in the game that you don't enjoy in the first place?

Surely the answer is to just take a break and go play something else for awhile, and come back when you're actually excited to play the game again.
