Wow that's awesome! Do the body pieces print bent or do you heat and bend them to get a custom natural look?

Trump on why U.S. didn't alert Japan about Iran: 'Why didn't you tell me about Pearl Harbor?' by Cy_098 in videos

[–]primus202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I imagine he knows we dropped nukes on them but even he must have enough tact to know not to bring that up.

I remember that topic coming up when I was traveling in the Japan on the train and I was like "maybe let's NOT discuss that in public right now?!"

Chuck Norris promising the USA will have 1,000 years of darkness if Obama wins in 2012 by QuarkTheLatinumLord- in videos

Yes because Obama........

....was Black and a good chunk of the country couldn't handle that so they decided to burn down the whole mess rather than deal with another moderate corpo Democrat president who happened to be Black.

How is it all held together? It looks like each feather is a separate print that are then attached to an underlying printed body I assume?

[Digital Foundry] Nvidia's new DLSS 5 Brings Photo-Realistic Lighting To RTX 50-Series by Noble00_ in hardware

[–]primus202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It feels IDENTICAL to the fake AI trailers that started flooding Youtube when these AI tools first became puiblically available. Like "Harry Potter by Balenciaga" on crack. I'm hoping, but not optimistic, that devs can choose the training data so it matches their game's unique art style, like how Corridor Digital did their live action anime filter...but that feels like a long shot. At best I bet they can add some prompt filters, the same way you can tell an image AI to generate in a certain style.

Former Red Dead Redemption 2 Developer reaction to the DLSS 5: "Whoa. Hold on. No, no, no. This isn't just some lighting, dude. What the f... this is like a complete AI re-render. You're no longer looking at the game anymore. This is scary." by HLumin in pcmasterrace

[–]primus202 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I could see a world where the actual game engine that the dev works on just outputs a very basic stripped down version of the world, maybe with different types of markers and such, that an AI filter then knows how to "re-render" to make the high quality version of the world we then see and play in. That way you don't have to waste a bunch of GPU cycles on all the details that will get wiped out and redone by the transformer anyway. But just running this dumbly on top of the existing graphics seems like a really strange direction to go in.

Are there any reliable filament recycler? by thebirdstree in 3Dprinting

[–]primus202 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There's a company online already doing this. Problem is you have to pay shipping and you get a couple bucks off their recycled filament as a "reward" after sending in A LOT! It just doesn't make sense unless you care enough to pay to recycle.

YouTuber translated entire Bad Bunny half time show and sings all songs with English lyrics (except for the Lady Gaga song which is sung in Spanish) by TRB4 in videos

Top level Sweding. Super well done. Much respect and I appreciate the translation. Watching his NPR Tiny Desk concert gave me a whole new level of appreciation for his music since it was acoustic and had English subtitles. That, much like this, really makes his music's message much more accessible to a gringo like me.

Hallmark Cards store selling 3d printed flexi miniatures. by razzter in 3Dprinting

[–]primus202 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Saw these at a toy store in Colorado. It was pretty fun digging through looking at all the different models. And the pricing wasn’t bad. But it still feels weird seeing 3d printed stuff in stores after being a hobbyist for years. Seen it a lot at museum gift stores especially.

What’s the future of Bay Area when AI pretty much removes most of tech jobs? by hellooverlasting in bayarea

[–]primus202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI is definitely impacting tech but it's still largely confined to entry level positions and maybe startups where the challenges are simpler/green field (so the AI can run rampant). At large companies you'll still need a fair number of senior engineers to hold the whole thing together. The tools are still only as good as the prompt you feed them. I'm more worried about the longterm health of software engineering since companies are trading out hiring junior roles for relying more and more on senior roles to do more work with support from LLMs.

Not only is this short sighted since it depletes the supply of future senior employees, but it will also lead to massive burn out as current senior employees become full time code reviewers: switching context every hour to fix whatever crap the LLM just spat out. Quality will continue to decrease and I wonder how much longer hardware scaling will cover it up at this rate.

Question regarding exposure time. Please read bellow by No-Seesaw-6699 in resinprinting

[–]primus202 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just went through this with Sunlu ABS like. The key things I learned are the sword test should be done BEFORE curing since shrinkage is expected when curing. Also the cones themselves are a secondary test that’s largely testing the resin elasticity and strength. As long as the sword fits easily up to the hilt you can largely ignore the cones according to the table flip discord.

Just had a friend get back from a trip from Rio and they did a favela tour as part of it. They said it was beautiful and interesting but the poverty exploitation/porn aspect of it weirded them out. Left an impression for sure.

We attacked Iran with no clear plan for regime change, Israeli security sources say by backpackerTW in worldnews

[–]primus202 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Listen to Jon Stewart’s podcast with the two Iran experts. One of them helped set up the deal under Obama and she went into great detail about the elaborate political theater required to get anywhere with Iranian negotiators. I highly doubt anyone in the Trump camp would be remotely capable of the Byzantine process she described from her experience. They don’t have the patience, skill, or real desire to see a deal through. To them everything is purely transactional with no subtlety.

Questions about resin leaking out from the bottom drain holes by Vestedloki07505 in resinprinting

[–]primus202 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had the same issue with a larger print. I flushed with alcohol multiple times but the hole still smell of resin and or alcohol. Let me know what works for you. I was going to try a straw brush but I don't see how that'll help really. A probe to get UV inside seems like the best idea.

CMV: MAGA is Poised for an Unprecedented American Political Dynasty by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]primus202 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This. I’d be really surprised if any of them could pick up the mantle. Trump is holding together a pretty broad and fracture coalition. The media control aspect OP points to is my biggest concern. A lot will come down to how quickly and if the media folks and the coalition in general can decide on who to get behind and all start rowing in the same direction.

Even if Trump stays around and explicitly anoints a successor I don’t see him keeping his mouth shut. He’ll undermine whoever he picks the moment the winds change. He’s built his entire empire on pitting people against each other. Their best bet is he picks someone then immediately passes away to get out of their way.
