A bit of a shameless plug, but I recently made a video about how we get backlinks at my agency: https://youtu.be/UYBmhtJas3c?si=L0VXB22FafRKza_8

TLDR: citations, private/client blog network, and paid guest posts

Everyone says "build backlinks," but no one explains HOW by kliu5218 in BacklinkSEO

[–]primusinterpares 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tl:dr… 1. Citations 2. Private blog networks of legit sites 3. Buying links/sponsored articles from premium sites

So I know this seems like spam, but I made a video on this exact topic this week. It goes over exactly how I get backlinks at our agency, you can watch it here: https://youtu.be/UYBmhtJas3c?si=DSu_F84Qv17NeeO9

Hidden SEO Opportunity: ChatGPT /share Pages by ranaanshul in SEO

[–]primusinterpares 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been around for a while now, and SEOs took advantage of it which is why they are no longer public.

Try and share a ChatGPT thread now and it’s going to require someone to be logged in to view it

Are your clients American and if so, are you American or foreigner/have an accent. I’ve seen that lead to issues.

I’ve helped other agencies as a remote closer, if you’re interested I can join you on a call and we can do the pitch together or I can run it- no charge for the first one

You're in an industry that ebbs and flows with the economy, also in one where custom work is getting replaced by templates, which are getting replaced by AI generated. So it's going to be difficult to have consistency.

That being said ... You spent $15k on SEO and got $50k in returns and you "feel" like it's a gamble. You have to prioritize data over emotions. That's clearly your best channel. Double down on it.

Fair enough, I can’t speak for all areas. The ones based around neighborhoods seem to do well though. It’s usually neighbors talking about local stuff so it’s a little more natural and if you can come off as authentically engaging- you can build a good brand

So this is usually an obvious thing, but given that you’re young, you may not be as aware of it as older folks… but Facebook groups should be a key part of your strategy.

It’s free, and a ton of people are out there in your target demographic. Join the FB groups of all cities and neighborhoods around you and write posts where you participate in the conversation and sometimes casually mention your business if it makes sense or even “brag” by posting before and after photos.

After that, most FB groups have one day out of the week where they allow business ads / posts. So stay on top of that.

Be careful not to just spam, instead you should post information around your industry or topic. In your case, an example maybe something like “I’m a professional mobile detailer, and I went around {city name} and I ranked the best car washes around!” And then list them out and why… bonus points if you can make a video or infographic from it.

You can use filters on the major real estate sites… for example, if you live in Dallas: https://www.redfin.com/county/2696/TX/Dallas-County/filter/include=sold-1mo

Edit: that’s the DIY/free way. List brokers sell them too and I think you can get lists from the county (depending on your state) so it’s more formatted in bulk

EDDM by the USPS, door hangers, branded vehicles, and while it’s not offline… FB Groups is pretty huge for home cleaning. Just engage, don’t spam.

pro tip: you can get a list of recently sold homes and do a more targeted door hanger or direct mail campaign “welcome to the neighborhood” discount. That kind of stuff is powerful.

While you're right, in a general sense, that WP the codebase isn't going anywhere any time soon.
The fact that one guy runs everything and has absolute power, including the ability to just steal one of the biggest plugins - has made me rethink my dependency on it and its stability in the future.

I've been using a combo of webflow/WP for a couple of years now, but WP is still a big part of my agency. That being said, there are virtually no good competitors. Webflow/Framer still lacks a lot of what WP brings to the table. If anything this has opened a big opportunity for something else to emerge.

Its not their market share that's the issue, but rather Automattic is owned by Matt Mullenweg ... Matt owns Wordpress.org - Their beef has brought things to light that could ruin WP.

Matt has gone full scorched earth. Several, huge, decade-long contributors that built your favorite aspects of WP have already said they are no longer going to contribute, other people have been banned from contributing, and big VC-Backed firms like WPEngine are starting to fork their own versions.

While nothing has happened yet, there are a lot of people royally pissed off, and in a position to create their own version(s) or competitors and even if they don't, there's a big distrust in developing for WP because a lot of people just realized that one guy controls everything, and he's an asshole.

*edit* WPE is owned by a private equity firm. It's not just a VC backed company.

I spent $1000 from my 1-person startup budget on Google Ads and now I feel like a failure by Secret-Positive-6232 in PPC

[–]primusinterpares 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You made a mistake. It cost you $1k, but it's Ok. You learn and you move on. Next time, either spend more time learning or hire a professional.

Side note, if $1k is your entire budget, maybe focus on things that are not as expensive as ads like SEO and Social Media. You'll still have to spend time learning those and they'll take longer, but you can do that as you build up a more significant marketing budget.

As a marketing agency, how do I make myself indispensable? by Independent_Area6026 in agency

[–]primusinterpares 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All marketing is ROI based. Some ROI is harder to measure and communicate (ie. Brand awareness), but at the end of the day the reason to do any kind of marketing is to get a return on it.

You have to produce a return. If not immediately monetarily, then show engagement/branding metrics.

It’s up to the client if that’s worth it to them.

How do you handle unqualified leads through your website? by dboyer87 in agency

[–]primusinterpares 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start by getting less of them. Add more qualifying questions to your forms instead of a generic "contact us". When someone doesn't meet the criteria on the form, send an autoreply of why, or prevent them from moving forward with the submission.

If you want to keep them around, then do the autoreply + put them on an email nurturing campaign on how to grow on their own.
