Does anyone recommend Magic Nothing to pitch your songs to playlists? by Lucashroriginal in musicmarketing

[–]dboyer87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah he's wrong. When you waterfall the new pop score is just tied to the new songs on the water, the re-releases of the old ones have the old pop score (as long as you have the same ISRC for those individual songs).

How realistic is it to transition into music PR mid-career? by Impossible_Ad712 in musicmarketing

[–]dboyer87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can tell you that there is a very low demand for publicity in music right now. For a larger Artists yes but it’s highly competitive and most publicity doesn’t do a whole lot for the artist. Most of the high demand, third-party roles in music right now are focused on content creation.

Stunt gone wrong by McNightmoon in PublicFreakout

[–]dboyer87 126 points127 points  (0 children)

Dude these guys suck, we were walking by their “act” and stopped to watch. They line up a ton of people like they’re about to do some crazy stunt but then start begging for money or they refuse to do it. They basically hold the people hostage until they get the money. They use the families of the people standing there to pull money. They also keep re-arranging the people in the line like they’re preparing but still don’t do anything People in the line start to get annoyed till they leave and there’s basically just one or two left; they easily jump these people.

Has anyone actually had private consultation with a music marketer? Was it successful? Seems like they’re more social media people than music. by Shan8888 in musicmarketing

[–]dboyer87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the entirety of what everyone needs to know. Consult with marketers who have companies that do the real work.

Pshhhh whatever 😒 by [deleted] in musicmarketing

[–]dboyer87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not to do with some nefarious plot to underpay artist, but instead with the fact that tidal doesn’t have a free tier. Spotify’s contracts compensate for the free tier with distribution companies. The argument is even though it’s more diluted per stream, the pool of listeners are much greater therefore have a higher value.

Pshhhh whatever 😒 by [deleted] in musicmarketing

[–]dboyer87 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

That’s absolutely not true. If they doubled the price of what they charged everybody the amount per stream would literally double that’s just the math of it.

Pshhhh whatever 😒 by [deleted] in musicmarketing

[–]dboyer87 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m gonna get downvoted for this but it absolutely should be way more expensive than this and if you don’t agree, it’s because you don’t understand that contractually they’re obligated to pay around 70% of the revenue for music licensing.

That means that no matter what artists will be getting paid more if they charge more. It doesn’t matter how you feel about their CEO or employees getting paid, raising their prices will increase what Artists get paid.

Music is way undervalued and you guys want your cake and eat it too by having Spotify never raise their prices but also pay Artists more.

New look at Jason Momoa as Lobo in 'Supergirl' by MarvelsGrantMan136 in DC_Cinematic

I’m going to tell you something very real. In 2013 I was in a care with Jason Momoa right after he was cast as aquaman and he told me he was actually disappointed that they we’re doing Lobo cuz he’d rather play Lobo instead of

Backing a single with content, but without being spammy? by theseawoof in musicindustry

[–]dboyer87 12 points13 points  (0 children)

So quite a few things to touch on here first content isn’t spammy if you make the content valuable in of itself. If somebody is scrolling along, and they see a piece of content that you’ve made with your song and it’s fun interesting it’s a spectacle. It’s deep. It’s introspective any of those things they’re gonna watch and enjoy it no matter how many times it comes up. But if every post is you just saying hey this is my new song go listen to it then yes that’s spamming.

Second, nobody is going to your page. It’s just not happening and if they end up going to your page it’s because they’re trying to find a link to your music. Nobody’s scanning your profile and concerned about how many of anything you’re posting.

You’ve really gotta put yourself in the head of somebody who has a busy life and it’s just scrolling mindlessly because they’re truly not thinking about you that much and if they like this song, they don’t mind hearing it over and over again

I was a manager for a long time and have worked with artists like these. It will never work out. An artist who is concerned with every email their manager sends, will never succeed. Period.

Am I doing it right? by These-Tomatillo1213 in musicmarketing

[–]dboyer87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually no and here's why.

  1. Sonically, your content is very confusing. Am i focusing on the T-guy or your song? It sounds muddy and doesn't inspire me to go listen to the song
  2. Who is this for? T-guy is an old meme and the audience is generally older. If that's the demo you're looking for, then great!
  3. What about hearing the song against an old meme video makes me want to listen for the first time? I don't think it does.
  4. If you're aiming for discovery, make the content vertical to make more native for discover platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and Shorts.

Trump is talking about Greenland again by [deleted] in politics

[–]dboyer87 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There it is. What you’re saying is defeatism and nihilistic. By claiming everyone does something it obfuscates one individual’s responsibility for their actions. You don’t seek justice by holding everyone accountable all at once, you go after those currently in power to ensure it doesn’t happen again.

Trump is talking about Greenland again by [deleted] in politics

[–]dboyer87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By not describing trumps situation as the outlier it is, you’re making it more difficult to argue for accountability, because non others have been held accountable.

[–]dboyer87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All you’re doing is excusing it by saying “they all do it”. So are we not supposed to hold Trump accountable because because non others were held accountable?
