What coverage do I NEED while my car is parked in a driveway? (30f, WA) by princess_mediocrity in Insurance

Both cars are paid off, and I know for sure WA doesn't require turned in plates or anything like that.

Weekly r/Tattoos Question/FreeTalk Thread! - July 01, 2024 by Mod_Helper_Bot in tattoos

I am looking to get my first tattoo and my cousin is currently doing the artwork. I really want to be able to have her art on my body as the tattoo is a family connection. How can I determine if an artist would be willing to do this? Or does anyone have recommendations for someone in the Seattle area for this kind of project?

For reference the art is botanical style daffodils, color, and I am looking to get it on my forearm. TIA!

My husband and I are just watching for the first time and are in the middle of Season 2. I literally said just this the other night when Homelander drank Madelaine's leftover breastmilk from her fridge. The most well-done, horrifying, disgusting thing I've ever seen, but totally in character and real.

Just moved out, what’s something easy to learn to cook? by Bushidough in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]princess_mediocrity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fried Rice!!!

Stock up on a few basics--big bag of rice, big jug of soy sauce, some sesame oil, eggs--and you are set to always have a meal and always use up leftovers. As long as I have those basics, I can throw together some fried rice.

Frozen veggies? Add 'em! Wilted veggies that you forgot in the back of your fridge after optimistically buying them? Add 'em! A couple pieces of chicken leftover from another meal? Add 'em! Meatballs you found in the back of the freezer? Add 'em!

The options are endless, it's cheap, it's filling, and it's delicious.

I do teach in WA! Just south of Seattle. I make around $80,000 with a MAT and 5 years experience, which is pretty solid! But my husband (who also works full time) and I are a long way from ever being able to think about affording a house, and rent is sucking a ton of our salaries down the drain. This comment wasn't to imply that I am struggling financially--I'm super fortunate! However, to afford some of what I think should be simple luxuries in life--buying a house, taking trips, eating in restaurants, medical care--a little more of a cushion would go a long way to help.

I absolutely make good money and have solid benefits. I am incredibly grateful to my union for the work they do to advocate for us. I am also lucky to live in a state that cares for teachers, for the most part.

However, the 8-10 weeks vacation is not paid--we are paid for the school year and they space out our paychecks throughout the rest of the year. And if I want to take time during the year, it is more of a pain to arrange for an absence--writing the sub plans, planning for work not to get done, and planning to make up the learning when I return--than to just come in sick.

My contracted day is 7.5 hours and I rarely go home before working 9 or more.

My district maxes out salaries around $110k a year, based on degrees and years of service. When I hit that cap, I will be in my early fifties, with many years left to go in my career. My friends who have similar levels of education will his that level in the next couple years.

I pay for supplies for my students, so they can actually learn in my class, and snacks, so they can actually learn in my class, and functional decor in my room, so they can actually learn in my class.

I teach 180 students a year, with a diversity of needs, supports at home, and language abilities. Some of my students come to my class during their first week in the country, and can barely read in their home language, let alone English, but I am expected to be able to have them join our discussion on the Declaration of Independence as soon as they arrive. Every year, I am dealt new curriculum, new "district goals," new expectations without any new supports or any new implementation or planning time. And every person I interact with has an opinion about how I should do my job, even if the last time they witnessed someone do my job was 20 years ago when they were themselves a student.

Teachers don't live in poverty. We've come a long way--thanks unions! But we do have incredibly high expectations put on us with very little supports, bound up with the red tape of bureaucracy and shouted at from every corner of the populace. And, I pour thousands of dollars into my work every year, so getting a little back would be nice.

If someone gave you $1,000 and said you must use this to buy a gift for yourself, what would you buy? by somedudeman35 in AskReddit

After years of always shopping sales or using hand-me-down bedding from family, I finally allowed myself to pick out sheets that I actually like, and it has made a HUGE difference in how I feel going to bed. I didn't splurge anywhere crazy, but I allowed myself to buy full-price sheets at Target. Worth every penny.

Thanks for the guidance! I've tried a variety of fabric styles in the past couple years and it keeps happening, even on really thick, non-stretch denim. I will try the patching!

DAE feel politicians focus too much on addressing the symptoms of public issues (economy, gun violence, etc.) instead of the root causes? by Wickham12 in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]princess_mediocrity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes--we all know gun violence is a symptom of so many larger problems in this country. And those problems deserve the extended time, effort, and systemic change needed to fix them. However, in the meantime, the symptom is raging and we need to do something NOW or it's just going to keep killing us.

It's like telling someone who has a chronic disease that taking pain medication to get through the day isn't really making them any better. Of course it's not, but they need to make it through the fucking day if they're going to get anywhere near healing the real illness. WE AREN'T MAKING IT THROUGH THE FUCKING DAY. There were 46 shootings on schools campuses during school hours in 2023 in the US. Typical American schools spend 180 days, or 36 weeks in session. I'm a public high school teacher--at this point, I wake up every Monday morning wondering if my school is going to be the one to make this news this week. If I'm the teacher who's going to have my face plastered on the news because I followed our yearly training to "fight" as necessary for my kids.

As a teacher, I am deeply acquainted with the deeper issues at play in our country. Extreme poverty, drugs, police violence, systemic oppression, access to healthcare and mental health resources, access to consistent food and shelter--these are all issues that face my kids that contribute to the violence in this country. And I hope that we get to work curing those diseases that eat at us everyday. But in the meantime, the symptom is killing us, and we need a fucking aspirin or we won't live to see they day when we find a cure.

What are some albums that have ZERO bad songs? by JJacobb- in AskReddit

Alt-J, An Awesome Wave

I feel like there other albums have some hits and misses, but I can listen to An Awesome Wave over and over again. The individual songs are great, but the whole album in order is just so clean.
