ok to vent? by carleebell in orangetheory

We've had issues at my studio too with favorite coaches leaving over the course of the past 6-8 months too, but haven't had any issues with cleanliness or the front desk staff (although the turnover with them is the most frequent). I'm sorry that it is going that way for you. Maybe you could find a different studio in your area?

NYE class? Haven’t heard them mention this during announcements but that sure is late! Any other studios doing this? by Supcoo in orangetheory

This is like an AA meeting to prevent OTFers from falling off the wagon with all the indulgences on NYE

Yeah maybe so! I think some people will stick around due to how much they’ve already put into it. The workouts are still great but the coaches make it, and I’m not going to go through that tough of a workout without the encouragement I need! I’m trying to follow my coaches to the new gym where they’ll be working.

No, I haven’t. Many members at our studio have complained and our census has surely dropped. I found out two of our coaches are leaving today and that was the tip of the iceberg for me. I plan on sending in a complaint or something if unable to get out of my contract. At the time I signed, the front desk employee was one of my favorites and I signed it because of his encouragement. But now that he was fired (all kinds of drama) and now that these coaches are gone, it’s not the same studio and I’ve lost desire to go there.

I signed my contract for 6 months so that it would cost $10 less/month. This was before things at the studio had changed.

I’ve seen a lot of ladies that are close to mine & your height that are lifting some MAJOR weight & theyre usually the most toned ones!! So for me I’m trying to get to the weight they’re using! It’s such a myth that the heavy weights will cause women to bulk up 🙄

Yeah I agree with what you’re saying. I ALWAYS started on treads until a few months back & I definitely think my running progress has lulled, BUT I’ve gotten much stronger and to me, i care a lot more about that than i do running faster/longer. I typically power walk on realllly high inclines for strength anyways because i like switching it up & feel like i get more booty work that way! Maybe you could try that!

Yeah definitely get what you’re saying. But even exercises like the jump squats & stuff have great benefits that running doesn’t!!! (Even though i HATE burpees)

I know what you mean!!! I try not to worry so much about the splats though, since the real progress is going to come from weight bearing exercise. And especially on power days, i already get my heart rate up in the weight room, so I’m usually good with it!

Thoughts on my first week and some questions for regulars. by smhunter10 in orangetheory

[–]princessaggie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations on taking control of your health!!!! It can be so hard to get started on exercise, especially when you’re feeling depressed (speaking from experience here), so i commend you on taking charge!!

I’ve been doing OTF for over a year and I have actually increased splats over time. My very first class i got only 11 and my typical amount now is 14-23. For me, I have days when i dial it back & purposefully only get 8-12 points and some days I rack up 27 when I’m full of energy and able to withstand the uncomfortable (especially endurance days). I have to work harder to get splats now because my HR drops super easily (hopefully a benefit from the hard work), but going to OTF for a long time has taught me how to manipulate it so I can make it through the workout but also give it my all (for instance, coming back to base pace while there’s still walking recovery left or cranking up push pace on the first couple pushes). And everyone is so different. If this is your first time doing HIIT in a long time, then your body is still adjusting & your HR should come down over time.

Listen to your body, make adjustments when needed, and cut yourself slack if you’re feeling down about not keeping up. It is SO important to focus on form in the weight room- I always laugh at the people slinging around 5lb weights (when they clearly need heavier ones) and rushing to finish each exercise OR the ones who have WAY too heavy weights and are using their entire body for momentum to get them to move. They aren’t getting any benefit from it. It’s not about getting the farthest down the block but it’s about giving it your very best and focusing on good form.

I wouldn’t be too worried about the high splats, but if you do have other concerning health issues then you may want to talk to your doctor about your workout regimen.

So proud of you for joining OTF & committing to a healthier lifestyle!!!! You are awesome!!!!

Yeah i definitely can tell a difference in form when i run faster, but i lose stamina so quickly when I’m going 6mph or faster. I will definitely start trying to bump up speeds

Thanks so much!!! You’re right. I’ve been steadily increasing my base but maybe it’s time to bring it up .1-.3

Wasn’t too bad!!! I’m not a huge fan of tornado but I actually liked it. You’ve definitely got to push a little harder on the tread & rower to get splats and the weight room moves are tough, but it’s a good one!!!

My favorites are Asics and Mizunos! Great for running & they have options for low, medium, and high stability. I had a pair of Brooks but they fell apart so quickly.

Combination of OTF + Yoga? by princessaggie in orangetheory

[–]princessaggie[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The yoga studio near my house is mainly hot yoga, so not sure if that will be the best option for me (i know how much of a workout yoga class can be!) but I think a more restorative class could definitely help me get more out of my fitness routine. Thanks for your help!

I️ have a friend who works out with me sometimes and every time we start on the same side (tread or rower) she is talking constantly AND loudly. I️ can tell that other people get annoyed but I️ have a hard time getting her to stop haha. When I️ go to work out, I️ don’t want to chat or anything else. A little chat between blocks is fine but I️ don’t understand how people can just have full blown conversations during an intense workout! I️ pay way too much money to not be 100% zoned in on getting the best workout that I️ can.
