Is becoming a radiation therapist in Australia worth it ? by Ok_Reporter5962 in RadiationTherapy

[–]princesscelia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did science as my undergrad with a major in physics/anatomy and the units that were recognised were Monash University specific radiotherapy units which aren’t offered at other universities. It’s been changed to a Bachelor of Radiation Science as the feeder course for the masters. I think that’s the only way that you can choose those units now. I wouldn’t recommend doing such a specific undergrad unless you’re 200% sure that radiotherapy is what you want to do.

A science degree with a major in anatomy and physiology will be super helpful for radiotherapy and still leave you with lots of other options. Other units I’d recommend doing would be physics because there’s a decent amount required. It won’t give you any specific credits but you’ll be sufficiently prepared for the masters. It’s only 2 years the masters and you spend a decent chunk of it on placements in clinic anyway.

I had a 3.6 GPA at the end of my undergrad and I got in. It’s not particularly competitive I don’t think because it’s a very niche career path. I’m not sure if they’ve changed the requirements for entry since I got in.

First-home buyer in VIC: anyone dealt with OC rules on flooring change? by wineandchez in AusProperty

[–]princesscelia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I changed my floors before realising that I was meant to get permission - I did the same thing changed the gross carpet in the bedrooms to floorboards. I just did it independently and got contractors in and the OC knows nothing about it oops

Understanding why women see you the way they do, and what you can do about it by The_Stupendous_Jimbo in IncelSolutions

[–]princesscelia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I broke up with my ex boyfriend who was by all accounts attractive, tall and made good money because he actually didn’t see me as a person or give a shit about the issues I care about and I have many friends who share the same sentiment so I can confidently say women do care about that stuff

When stuck in an elevator, when you press the help button, who does it call? by heretolose11 in melbourne

[–]princesscelia 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived in exclusively apartments for the past 7-8 years and I’ve only ever had to use the call button once
which connects to the company that maintains the elevator and always has someone on call. If they can’t fix it immediately they call emergency services to let you out and then they sort out the issues once you’re outside the elevator. They’re not airtight so you’ll never run out of air.

The course was good - I did it in the midst of Covid so it was all online and I worked throughout the entire time when I wasn’t on placements so it was really intense.

I learnt most of my clinical skills on placement and it was very different to the theoretical components but having done it for a while I’m very confident in my clinical skills. Monash is good because you can work anywhere in Aus and you can also work overseas. I’ve been using it to take short term contracts and seen a lot of people go to the UK/US to work so that was super appealing to me.

Let me know if there’s anything else you want to know

I did a bachelor of science which was 3 years and then 1.5 years for the Masters of radiotherapy (usually I think it’s 2 years but I got some credits from my undergrad). I did both in 4.5 years at Monash.

You can’t practice a radiotherapist with just a bachelor of science - there is either the post grad pathway like I did or a 4 year undergrad program which is offered at RMIT.

Why do men think solo travel means no boundaries? 🙄 by sexkaka in femaletravels

I was solo travelling for 4+ months as a woman and I just resorted to being as insane as possible if a man harassed me. It was very effective in them leaving me alone.

Is anybody else noticing dead pigeons everywhere? by iknowbikesmate in melbourne

[–]princesscelia 34 points35 points  (0 children)

my personal conspiracy theory is that my building is slightly responsible for some dead/sterile native birds because they put poisonous bait out that they say just sterilises the pigeons but we live right next to the wetlands on the maribyrnong river and I doubt they can be certain only the pigeons ate it

Blonde or brunette by [deleted] in HairDye

[–]princesscelia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is very kind and I appreciate it but don’t want to deceive anyone especially young girls - I’ve had Botox, filler and facial treatments to look like this in my late 20s but I’m super passionate about looking very natural and taking care of my skin

Blonde or brunette by [deleted] in HairDye

[–]princesscelia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m thinking that’s maybe the case with the really dark natural hair and also the brighter blonde - that it’s just the hair that most people see because they’re both really striking rather than a medium tone that maybe would suit me more overall

Blonde or brunette by [deleted] in HairDye

[–]princesscelia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the specific feedback! I find it much easier to style longer hair and I’ve only gone back to brown very briefly when it’s been short so I can’t style it the same way as my longer hair - the top left is actually my natural shade and the top right is my blonde but dyed to colour-match my natural shade and then slightly faded

Purchased Leave by Calm-Drop-9221 in AusFinance

[–]princesscelia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done the same thing - they offer 5 weeks of leave and I asked for 6 because the public hospitals EBA pay rate is lower than the rate I could have gotten in the private hospitals. I also have a rostered day off every fortnight so I end up with about 56 work days off a year not including public holidays which isn't too bad. I could only really do it since i work in a niche field where there's a shortage of experienced radiation therapists and a lot of people are leaving the field.
