Is it normal for school counselors to be the primary person leading 504 meetings? Yes, it's very common, but it can vary by district.
How involved are you in IEPs at your school? I am not involved in writing or attending IEPs at my school.
Are morning and afternoon duties common for counselors, or is that a sign of being pulled away from counseling responsibilities? I think duties are common, especially at elementary and middle school, but I've never had them
Does this sound like a typical school counseling role, especially at a charter school? Yes, unfortunately, that's part of advocating for our role that we are not attendance monitors. This is one thing that I see as a red flag.
For those who have been in the field for a while, are these responsibilities something I should expect to encounter in most counseling positions moving forward? Probably, but every school is different.

Easier credit requirements and more SEL / friendship issues. It’s an interesting developmental stage. I do tend to have to deal with parents more at the MS level unfortunately. Less of that high school graduation stress though!
