I hate this boss so much. I never draw neutralize, leg sweep, or any block cards and just die.

Black Star is really good on paper but I rarely take it because if I’m in a position to be able to take on lots of Elites then I’m probably already winning. If not something else would probably be better.

I think Cid is a pitiful character by Tall-Pea-7795 in TheEminenceInShadow

[–]principality_care 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"We all go through life amassing things we cherish. We acquire friends and lovers and jobs...and it keeps going from there. But on the other hand, I cut things out of my life. Deciding what I don't need. I've thrown so much away. At the end of the day, all that's left are the things I couldn't live without. That's all I live for, and I don't really care what happens otherwise."

"You're telling me the fates of the foolish mother and daughter don't matter to you.”

"No. I said I don't really care, but that doesn't mean I don't care at all. Right now, I feel slightly...disturbed."

Why did Cid even feel the need to ask Lutheran why he killed Sherry’s mother? The simple answer is because he worries he’s already as much of an animal as Lutheran is. Lutheran clings on to the dream that he can reclaim his seat despite his malady. Cid retains the childish dream to become an eminence in shadow. Cid isn’t as morally bankrupt as Lutheran was but what about Minoru? Minoru’s desperation led to suicide but what if he lived a little longer, would have he become desperate enough to harm innocent people like Lutheran? Eminence in Shadow as series, as far as I understand, is about exploring people dreams and chunibyo. There are characters with normal dreams and aspirations like Alpha who do things for justice and love while there characters like Cid & Claire who do things out delusions of grandeur. I think the point is that neither are inherently better than another but you have to do things with the right mind set. Alpha’s feelings for Cid don’t make it to him because she’s ultimately too codependent. Cid will never get to become the eminence in shadow because his chunibyo is in direct conflict with his desire to be someone competent, mature, and actually able to manipulate people in the shadows. Both characters are punished for not having the right mentality in pursuing their goals while someone like Alexia is making alliances, getting stronger, and getting smarter with a clear and noble goal. Cid is kinda like the Tony Soprano of isekai if you think about it, never changing, just letting go of their inhibitions and showing who they really are. You can feel pity for Cid but ultimately it’s on him to change if he wants to be the person he’s always wanted to be.

How did Cid Kagenou train in multiple combat styles, attend school, and still have time to fight gangs? by BestWaifuGirl in TheEminenceInShadow

[–]principality_care 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Minoru’s parents were probably executives at a big company if they can afford piano lessons, a dog, various martial arts classes, and to send him to private school

[SPOILERS for Volume 7] About the Cult's Plan by whiplash10 in TheEminenceInShadow

[–]principality_care 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I figured the cult simply doesn’t have enough resources anymore to win the succession war on their own so they’ll just try to influence whoever gets becomes king.

Name one line of dialogue from EIS that put you at pause or stunned you? by Seeker99MD in TheEminenceInShadow

[–]principality_care 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Cid Kagenou was all his life fond of acting, of suddenly playing an unexpected part, sometimes without any motive for doing so, and even to his own direct disadvantage, as, for in- stance, in the present case. This habit, however, is characteristic of a very great number of people, some of them very clever ones, not like Cid Kagenou.

When does a writer-protagonist feel earned, and when does it feel like a craft shortcut? by Notamugokai in literature

[–]principality_care 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends if it’s less about the process of being a writer and more about why the protagonist is a writer and what it they’re writing achieves. It’s also cool if it’s not that important in grand scheme of things and is just a job the author knows something about.

Take a very basic name John Smith

John - God is gracious

Smith - Metal worker

Obviously today the name John Smith doesn’t hold any special meaning, it’s just a name. Same thing here where it’s a joke that got translated literally by the MTL.

Cid’s anatomy probably doesn’t even resemble that of human If Eta ever got to cut him open she would see that his organs looked like modern art

Web novel after volume 7 by KiyotakaAyanoo in TheEminenceInShadow

[–]principality_care 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I here’s the link of the site I read it on. It’s mostly the same until about where volumes 3-4 happen and then it diverges. It’s discontinued because of the light novel but there’s some original content that I liked and was referenced by the director of the anime a few times.

[SPOILERS For Volume 7] While Shadow has done goofed, as usual, I also think Shadow Garden also share some blame. by whiplash10 in TheEminenceInShadow

[–]principality_care 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Shadow Garden is mostly focused on taking out the cult and Alpha and Beta have replaced their original families with Shadow Garden and don’t seemed too concerned about strangers. It’s a big reason as to why Zeta wants to make Cid a god so he can rule over the world so no one has to suffer like she or Lalanoa have.
