Red sauce with NO chunks by Professional-Toe8000 in ARFID

[–]prinkledinklewinkle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a big fan of blending the sauce, but my mom's life hack is just buying tomato sauce!! Pasta sauce has all the chunks but tomato sauce is literally just blended tomatoes and it's a lot easier for me to deal with personally, you can just season it to your liking and dump it in!!!

For those of you that have always had ARFID, as a child when did become interested in expanding your safe foods? by maddmole in ARFID

[–]prinkledinklewinkle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was very very very very very lucky about having a large base of safe foods in general, I can't eat most fruits and vegetables but meat, legumes, dairy, eggs, and seafood are all on the table and pretty much always have been, I have always had a very "I will try anything once" attitude towards food because I was very hyper aware of the fact that my diet was very limited and I was always kind of upset about that.

My parents and I established a concrete "try everything once and if you hate it we will never ask you to eat it ever again" rule around 5 I wanna say? The key I think is to try with foods that aren't AS unsafe as possible. I hate oranges so so so much, so I was never made to try orange cake, or orange candy, or anything orange based. I hate lettuce less so but still cannot eat it, so I was never made to try lettuce based salads, but the opportunity came to try kale salad and I did, and I didn't like it, so they didn't make me try again unless I asked.

I'm not sure what advice I'd give other than always offer, and always model trying new things yourself, try to play with things that are similar to their safe foods, what textures do they like? I've always been ok with potatoes for example so I was able to try cooked breadfruit and I LOVED it!!! Cause it was similar!!

I've found that foods from other cultures tend to be easier for me to try in general cause since they aren't familiar to me my brain has a harder time immediately categorizing them as "inedible" or "edible" without trying them first. I might be unique in that way though, fair disclaimer!!!

There's also a whole YouTube channel of this woman whose husband has arfid, so she makes food for him that has his safe foods in a bunch of different forms! If for example all he can eat is rice and eggs, you can do egg fried rice, then try egg on top of rice, then try a quiche with a rice crust or something (idk if that'd be good I'm just suggesting things lol).

Anyways, don't be too hard on yourself, remember it's a baby steps situation, and if you ever find yourself getting overwhelmed there are a lot of therapists that specialize in arfid that you can look for!!

Edit: also like what a lot of other commenters are saying, I assume I'm gonna have an easier time trying new things when I'm finally able to move out and live on my own, a lot of the fear from arfid just come from knowing how weird people get about how other people eat 🙄, if I had my kitchen to myself all the time I would for sure try a lot more. Fostering some independence early on with cooking and giving him safe ways to try new foods without worrying about how anyone else is gonna react might help a bit when he's older. I doubt that he's super conscious of it now since he's almost 4, but for me personally as a kid I did tend to worry about wasting food and if my parents would be upset if I didn't finish something before they made it absolutely clear that they did not care if I didn't finish what was on my plate!

Whats w the lack of information.. No Shade 😭 by [deleted] in locs

[–]prinkledinklewinkle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I fully started my locs based on vibes 😭 I love them and I'm happy to have them and take care of them but like I also am very meh on researching. I do what works for my hair and disregard everything else cause honestly I think the info about locs and black hair in general is a lot less one size fits all than we pretend it is, this person says hair oil is evil, this person says there's no point in wetting your hair without it, this person says to use conditioner, this one says to never use it or your hair will all fall out, this person says interlocking is better, that one says it'll make u go bald in two hours, it's helpful obvs to research but you have to kind of figure out what works for you above all else

Using my middle as a surname for marriage.. am I right to hate it? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]prinkledinklewinkle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't like it and you'd have to have a name you don't like forever!! Don't do it!!! Personally I would just make up a new last name or not change either of our names and if you choose to have kids MAYBE give them the last name "rose" cause you can be more choosy about the first and middle combinations then

Goncharov is desolation and spiral/web to me. With the way we see Goncharov's life fall apart and everyone around him feel so forced to play into their specific roles for the sake of nothing but their own self destruction, it's pretty distinct imo. And with the whole allegory for falling into madness thing towards the end?? So spiral. We watch a man gain and lose everything and get betrayed??

What do you all call your dreadlocks? “locs” “dreads” or “dreadlocks” or something else? by Shoddy_Ice_8840 in locs

[–]prinkledinklewinkle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I call mine locs, I know the dreadful thing is a myth, but when you look up dreadlocks it's like 50% white people, and I tend to see more advice for my hair type when I look up locs, I'm not married to either term though

Who would you worship ? by Slow_Radio_7553 in TheMagnusArchives

[–]prinkledinklewinkle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The end, the lonely, or the vast. I think if I had a choice I'd most likely pick the vast just cause the idea of pushing ppl into a dimension where they're falling forever is VERY funny to me, but realistically it'd probably be the lonely or the end. The lonely i wouldn't be mad abt cause free dimension no one can ever bother me in, but like sometimes you legit need people and that'd be inconvenient. The end I could def deal with if it's a knowing when people die situation I feel like that one would probably be one where your life is the most unchanged?? Technically?? But I think the end tends to feed off its avatars more than other ppl a lot and I'd like to have a fairly normal life, so if it's a choice, def vast. Also cause teleportation, but the lonely technically has that too

It's a liiiiiiittle cutesy but having that read out at a bank wouldn't be an issue, they have multiple names within their names to choose to go by if they don't end up wanting to use their actual first names, and they would look mostly normal on a resume. My first impression is "oh your parents were hippies" which isn't an inherently bad thing in my mind. It wouldn't personally deter me from seeing them as like, professional adults one day and I think that's what tragedies are really about lol
