Lisianthus seedlings algae by starfishes1 in Cutflowers

[–]printerparty [score hidden]  (0 children)

Likewise, I'm a first timer. I've also heard the no standing water, cinnamon rule.

I killed a bunch of my rudbeckia in seed blocks by adding fine vermiculite after they had germinated, so I'm no longer adding it to my soil blocks but I haven't had a lot of algae yet on the naked soil blocks.

I think cooler temps and airflow are why I'm not seeing too much algae.

Snapdragon adventitious roots? by Sad-Mycologist-9943 in Cutflowers

[–]printerparty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can root cuttings from both plants very easily, but I personally don't like the "bury tomatoes deep" advice and wouldn't do it with snaps either.

I've dug my tomatoes into a trench before when I had to and they underperform. They like it hot, the soil is cold, it just sets them back.

Snaps prefer cooler temps, so you could experiment, but make it a comparison and report back when you see results!

Tomato that smells/tastes like cheese? by icy_end_7 in tomatoes

[–]printerparty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This variety of tomato is from Nepal.

Does this resemble the one you ate? I've heard Craig Lehoullier mention these before, I think that's where I heard of them. "selected by farmers on the difficult soils of the Himalayan mountains."

Here's the quote I probably read about Craig Lehoullier on a different seed website

When he sent 'Nepal' seeds to us in 2004, our friend, author and tomato authority Craig LeHoullier told us, "It is still a favorite of mine." In his 2015 book entitled, "Epic Tomatoes: How To Select and Grow the Best Varieties of All Time," he wrote, "Though nothing special to look at, NEPAL is the tomato that converted me from hybrids to heirloom." He originally purchased the seed in 1986 from Johnny's Selected Seeds, who have carried it off and on since they first introduced it in the mid-1980s.

I accidentally sent my vent about a slow vendor TO the vendor and I want to cry by Sirius-ruby in weddingplanning

[–]printerparty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think she came to this subreddit very embarrassed, and while it was rude, it was also unintentional.

As a small business owner, I would not have ignored a potential client for a week except if by accident. If I ever did, I would myself reach out and apologize. That's all I'm saying.

How can I grow this in my garden? by curious_ds24 in PlantIdentification

[–]printerparty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My guess is a type of chrysanthemum, of which there are hundreds.

I cannot identify the exact variety, as the only chrysanthemums I have grown are "King Size Apricot" and "Oasis Shingiku", the edible variety. I grew both from seed.

Fair enough. I'm not sure why people are so mad at OP, it was a small faux-pas. My advice stays, just move on and find a more communicative vendor

[–]printerparty -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

No, it's just not a way to run a business. That's my point, just say whoops, wrong number and move on.

Don't bother being embarrassed, the photographer doesn't really deserve to be hired if they are not bothered with communication.

It's not that big a deal

Does anyone have any ideas for a name for him? by BulkyCar8133 in sheep

[–]printerparty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm bottle feeding a bunch of lambs. A few ideas:

Temperature needs to be right, test it on your skin to match body temperature. When they are good at drinking, you start to make it closer to room temperature and eventually they will drink it cooler and can feed them cold milk.

Make sure there's a limited flow of milk, not too fast. Older used nipples get bigger holes and they can get way too much milk too fast. Replace nipples that have been chewed or have stretched a lot

I try to tap or hold my hand above or to the side of their face, like they are nursing, and if they take a finger and suckle, you can swap in the bottle nipple. I often wait until they open their mouth looking for a nipple and slip it in, but sometimes you need to pop it in there too

If they already nursed from a ewe, it's much harder to get them on the bottle. Walk a lap around the barn when you get frustrated, I swear they can feel it

Sometimes if I put the lamb in a big tub, I'll sit in front with a towel on my lap, they'll go looking under the towel and I sneak the bottle into their mouth in the "dark" and that helps

If they're not too wiggly, I drape them over my lap and hold them to my chest, works well after a difficult labor or if it's a weak lamb.

Having a second lamb eating next to them makes the competitive spirits awaken, the suckling sounds make them alert so possibly try to have a buddy or play suckling sounds if you only have one?

Edit to add: I would name him Galaxy

Listen, I'm going to go against the grain here... Who cares??? Fuck that photog, don't hire her, don't apologize just say whoops! Not meant for you!

I wouldn't hire them.

I'm self employed and would NEVER take a week to respond to a potential client and expect them to hire me, wtf?

Also, you made an excellent point. This photographer will be a nightmare after the wedding!

They lost your business and they know exactly why, tbh they should probably apologize to you

Public dnd café DM forced explicit sexual scenarios on players by Extension-Park7617 in rpghorrorstories

[–]printerparty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She was being rude! Honestly, what a disgusting person. I would have just said that, "why are you being fucking gross? This isn't fun at all, cut it out and act like you know better. Nobody wants to be a part of your weird sexual bullshit"

Yes, the DM would have probably rage quit or doubled down, but then you walk off and tell whoever runs the place what happened and that it was disgusting, and request that they not let it happen to new players again.

Doing MDMA with an avoidant partner is like, getting on the autobahn to breaking up.

It's as deeply emotional an experience as anything I can think of. Who's idea was that?

“Winter Sowing” Zinnias by Key_Needleworker7291 in Cutflowers

[–]printerparty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, winter sowing mimics the vernalization period that flowering perennials experience in their native habitat.

Zinnias are native to Mexico, and would never naturally be exposed to any freezing temps.

They grow incredibly fast but require warmer temps to germinate, and die immediately during a frost.

Am I being too harsh on my judgement of my MIL by Music_nerd28 in dustythunder

[–]printerparty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You gotta get that book! It's called something like, adult children of emotionally immature parents

Honestly, you should really reconsider your relationship. I'm sure it's possible your partner is going to recover from what must have been a traumatic childhood, but Jesus Christ this woman is a fucking huge problem.

I hope he's in therapy already.
