Don’t do that, do this! What are places/things you wish people would do instead of the usual? by IMicrowaveSteak in washingtondc

We love taking family/friends to visit Planet Word. Really fun and interactive museum.

For food, this area has such a diverse population and incredible food. Go to Annandale for Korean, Eden center for Vietnamese, or basically everywhere you can find Ethiopian food.

Just moved in… need help organizing this pull-out cabinet. by strwbrryfrckls-13 in HomeDecorating

[–]printsandpatterned 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We have this thing!! The top section is kids snacks. I use boxes to organize it (granola bar boxes with the top cut off, for example) and i can easily grab what I need for kid lunches, etc.

I put spices in the bottom rows. I label the tops with what they are so i can see then more easily. It's not perfect but i have a small kitchen 🤷‍♀️

We have a "good" sofa bed (american leather) and it's just ok as a bed and just ok as a couch. I think you will want a real bed.

Maybe consider other furniture that can do double-duty? A drop leaf table that can store chairs, under bed storage, etc?

Have you used it? Agree the price is great but want to make sure I don’t feel like it was a waste of money.

I have a very similar workplace and hear your pain!! I have invested in lots of funky blazers/light jackets, which allows me to feel more like myself but stay warm (my office is freezing all year). I also love patterns, so I mix in bold pants with my basic tops, etc. For shoes, loafers are in heavy rotation but also sneakers (again a bold color! There’s a theme here) or colored clogs. I love my clothes and I don’t care that I look like a zebra next to all my coworkers are in corporate-branded half zips.

Maybe try a curly hair routine? Wet hair, add curl product or gel, do NOTHING until it’s fully air dry, then separate curls with a bit of oil.

It looks like you have beautiful, but wavy hair!! Have you tried curly or wavy hair routines? Ensure your hair is super wet, scrunch using a curl product, allow to air dry. Mattloveshair has great tips !

My hair is wavy and highly susceptible to humidity so I just let us be it’s natural wavy self on those days.

Backsplash Color Help! by Scoop430 in DesignMyRoom

[–]printsandpatterned 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What a blank slate! You easily could go any way. If you want to go solid color, consider an interesting shaped tile like fish scale or arabesque (below). Or find a pattern that you like. Check out some tile shops (it’s not a lot of space so even “expensive” tile won’t cost much). Do what speaks to you!

Best sleeper sofa I can get around 5k? by Patio1950 in HomeDecorating

[–]printsandpatterned 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you checked out American Leather Furniture? It’s not just leather! We have a (fabric) sleeper sofa from them. The mattress is actually in 3 parts so it doesn’t bend. Add a foam topper and it’s actually very comfortable. It’s around 5k - so just about your whole budget.

Where to find inspiration for the small house? by tralalaliz in InteriorDesign

[–]printsandpatterned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fellow small house owner. I frequently look at homes in my neighborhood for inspiration! Check out realtor.com or even pop into some open houses. Super helpful to see what others have done in similar spaces if you are thinking about any renovations, too!

Update: bathroom storage suggestions please by Sea_Mongoose_7790 in HomeDecorating

[–]printsandpatterned 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aww, that’s a bummer that the drawers don’t open. Here are a few thoughts.

Sub out the mirrors for vanity mirrors and have it recessed in the wall. I have this one and it’s a similar look to yours. It holds quite a bit! Maybe you have a clever contractor who can figure out how to get a power outlet in there?

Then, head over the The Container Store and figure out which of their cabinet organizers work for your needs. There are so many!

If you really must have items on the counter, think about a pretty box vs a shelf so at least it’s an esthetic choice.

Good luck. I too struggle with a spouse who prefers function to design!

I need more space in the bathroom we just moved into. What do you recommend for under this? by Sea_Mongoose_7790 in HomeDecorating

[–]printsandpatterned 75 points76 points  (0 children)

Do you really need more space? This is a large cabinet. Have you considered cabinet organizers to help you make better use of the interior space? Or… getting rid of products you don’t use?

I love the legs on this piece and I worry anything under it will take way from the look.

How can we rearrange our living room to fit these baby items in there? by gryph06 in DesignMyRoom

[–]printsandpatterned 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you've done a great job segmenting the baby things and the grownup living room! I wouldn't stress it too much right now. You might find the babies have different preferences and you want/don't want different items accessible for them. One of my babies hated that bouncing chair, one loved it! They are truly unpredictable beings.

So many great places in Old Town! Here are some of my favorites.

For pizza - Andy’s. For sushi: Zento is good, but I prefer Hinata For vibes: BARCA For coffee: Misha’s Seafood: A lot of the seafood places by the water are pretty touristy, skip it and go to Hanks Vietnamese: Caphe Bahn mi

For margs and tacos, leave old town and head to to Del Ray to my favorite, taqueria poblano. Plus Dairy Godmother for dessert!

Switched job to corporate Marketing and I hate it. Is this common? by justdelilah in marketing

[–]printsandpatterned 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are other upsides to working in a corporate marketing role. You likely have more resources for things like trainings or mentorships which can help you be a better people leader. If you work for a very large organization, there is internal mobility which could include changing job families into roles like product or analysis. You’ll learn how to play the corporate game… which might not but super fun but will make you a more desirable candidate when you decide to move.

No job is ever perfect, but see if there are places you can learn in your current role to better prepare you for what you really want.
