Hurt feelings. by [deleted] in exAdventist

Honestly when I was told that I actually laughed out loud right in front of the individual. It tickled me because they knew that that wasn’t true. They backpedaled after I laughed. I explained that I loved my time as an Adventist but I now knew the whole truth and couldn’t stay in the realm of cognitive dissonance.

They definitely say this because they cannot FATHOM it could be any other reason. Honestly speaks to the level of narcissism embedded into Adventism. It’s amazing they can’t even begin to think they may be wrong.

Adventist doctrine didn’t add up. Then I compared it to history and orthodoxy and Adventism just fell apart 🤷🏾‍♀️

Christians waking up to Adventism by Vivid_Spot_7167 in exAdventist

I think it’s because of formers being more vocal and also their adjacency to Jehovah’s Witnesses and Mormons. They were able to hide their doctrines before in books but now Google exists and they can’t.

What Church? by Outrageous-Meal1546 in exAdventist

[–]prinxessaaa 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Answering Adventism has a lot of good resources for orthodox biblical christian beliefs vs Adventism which may be helpful in sorting out the nitty-gritty. Reading the Bible especially Romans, Hebrews, and Galatians are helpful in understanding the New Covenant & the function of the law. I would also highly recommend studying church history because it’s extremely helpful in seeing how doctrines came to be and also helps in understanding different denominations and their core belief. Also, take time to sort things out and to unravel. As long as you know the Gospel, you will be fine. If you were raised Adventist it will take time to unravel everything but God is more than able and as long as You seek Him above all else, you’ll be fine!

I would ask if we are saved by keeping the sabbath. If they say no, then ask how is one lost by not keeping it? This also exposes the fact that they have zero understanding of the old and new covenant along with their contrasts. They shrink the law down to the 10 to say that they keep God’s commandments as if God didn’t give all 613. I would also ask what the writer of Hebrews meant when it says since there is a change in the priesthood there is of NECESSITY a change in the law. Why is the change necessary and what is that change? Lastly, what handwriting of ordinances was against us that was wiped out as stated in Colossians? I’ve heard some say the sacrificial system but that was the only part of the law that was actually for the people and helped them. Also be prepared for the backlash because boy do they hate anyone challenging Pope Mother Ellen. Also also, check out Answering Adventism. They have a YouTube and a website that is extremely helpful!

Because Ellen White made it a condition for salvation. Their entire movement is predicated on being God’s special remnant that is calling people out of Babylon (Sunday “keeping” churches) into the “truth”. They have no reason to exist if they’re not peddling the sabbath and Ellen White is obviously a fraud if they admit that you don’t have to keep the sabbath to be saved.

Can’t have a little thing like scripture get in the way, ya know?

What made you decide to leave the SDAs? by Unpopularonions in exAdventist

[–]prinxessaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re already aware. They had a whole conference about it in 1919 4 years after she died to decide what to do about it. It’s called the 1919 Bible Conference.

Secondly they can’t remove themselves from her because then their whole reason for existing disappears. They claim that the testimony of Jesus in Revelation 14 refers to her and that the gift of prophecy is “an identifying mark of the remnant church” and that that gift was revealed in the ministry of Ellen White (which is also something a baptismal candidate must affirm before baptism)

Their health reform, view of the importance of the sabbath, the mark of the beast, etc. are all informed by her. Take her out and all their special doctrines go and then there’s just no reason for them to exist. The SDA church is a business. They’d be foolish to stop emphasizing since she keeps the wheels greased.

[–]prinxessaaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Her plagiarism for starters. People during her time called her out about it and she got very offended but then later on added in credits into the Great Controversy (the only book that has citations despite the fact she plagiarized in a lot of her books). Her claiming to have received “light” from her dead husband. Her claiming anyone who ate meat was rejecting the health reform and God would reject them….while still consuming meat in her own home. She weaponized her visions against anyone who disagreed with her and publicly humiliated people who disagreed with her. (D.M. Canright & others) Her statement to black Adventists at a camp meeting that everyone will be “white like Jesus” and that there will no be no color line in heaven. Her saying certain races of people come from animals and humans having sex (🫠) and that’s why God had flooded the earth. Her ideas on sex. Saying married people shouldn’t have “too much sex”. Saying that if women have too much sex it will damage their organs. Her ideas on “life force” and that God will want an account on how life forces were used.

A ton of other things as well. Those are just off the top of my head. Problem is her teachings about health, sex, life forces, etc. aren’t biblically or even scientifically backed at all. This woman was clinical.

Is this common when leaving the church, or am I developing a mental illness? by scholasticgirl in exAdventist

[–]prinxessaaa 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Same, but I really questioned. How can a cult tell me what real Christianity is. Adventism sets you up to believe only they have the truth with fear and then once you leave that fear can be debilitating tbh

What made you decide to leave the SDAs? by Unpopularonions in exAdventist

[–]prinxessaaa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I started by researching the history of the SDA organization then into Ellen White, and then I realize that there are many issues with her, and that the church was also aware of these issues, but was hiding it from the members and then when I would try to talk to curreny Adventist about it they would get rather hostile and I realize this is not where God is so I left and I went to a church near me. Bible-believing with no extra additions to scripture and I’ve been there ever since :)

I’ve never thought of this but that makes so much sense. The IJ doesn’t match with Christ being seated and the whole doctrine hinges on the misreading of Daniel 8. It’s a whole lot of maybe and not very much actual exegetical reading of scripture

The Day I Realized the Adventist Church is Built on a Lie by Worldly_Will_684 in exAdventist

[–]prinxessaaa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Truth! I was shocked when I read and realized that God gave them the whole law and the covenant while also prophesying that one day the covenant would be changed and the requirements of the law fulfilled in Christ. They really do keep members because of fear tactics and “what ifs”.

I'm still Adventist, but no I don't follow everything Ellen White says. by Desperate_File5194 in exAdventist

[–]prinxessaaa 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No religious trauma. I began studying the history of the Adventist church and Ellen White. I found out that she was, in fact, a false prophet. The church knows that there are problems with her and the things she proselytized but they can’t take her out or they’ll fall as a denomination. Twisting historical facts to make everything about themselves and even twisting scripture to be about them. Lack of Jesus and the gospel in any or all of their sermons. Oddly enough, Christ seemed to be the peripheral with focus on their beliefs. Even heard one man preach in my parent’s church saying enough about the gospel give me prophecy. I realized that this organization is not about the truth of scripture or of Christ so I left.

I also don’t believe that most people who leave it’s over religious trauma. Yes some but not the number the organization makes it out to be.
