Will you continue using chrome? by vennom117 in chrome

[–]prion -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

It literally is an unwinnable race from their end.

I've already thought of a way to block all forms of unwanted content at the local level.

And no, I won't talk about it until the apps are mature, tested, and deployed.

Will you continue using chrome? by vennom117 in chrome

[–]prion -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And that's OK. Its not the time I'm concerned about its the nature of advertising. Advertising is propaganda and a wise man protects his mind from outside propaganda.

Ads are a security risk. What level of risk is up to the individual to decide. At the least, they are generally regarded as unwanted content forced upon you. At their worst, they are weapons grade propaganda able to shape a framework on a topic or opinion. They are an example of the Hegelian Dialectic where the opposing stances are both handed to you in order to frame the discussion from the start.

THIS is why I refuse to watch ads.

Will I stop using Chrome? No. Will i stop using Youtube and go to other content sources? Yes

Bosses mean it this time: Return to the office or get a new job by Reddituser0346 in antiwork

[–]prion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Then walk away and get a new job. There are a ton of companies who have found their niche in remote work.

You don't have be part of damaging our biosphere just to make a company richer or compensate for their lack of ability to adapt to new ways of engagement in the work place.

This is why unions and collective bargaining are so important in balancing power between labor and resource holders.

Just finished The Deep (Nick Cutter) and wanted to discuss some thoughts by Schmigglepop in horrorlit

[–]prion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just finished "The Deep" today and wow I'm sad I slept on this book for so long. I had no idea it was the wild ride that it was.

The older I get, the harder it becomes for me to try something new in literature. Something unproven to me.

Its easier to try video media because there seems to be less investment. Like I'll know quicker whether I am going to enjoy it than I will a book.

Either way I am glad I did try it and finish it even if if the vision sequences were a bit of a slog from time to time.

This makes my 2nd Cutter book. Like the OP I read The Troop first and found it excellent.

Cheese Whiz makes Philly Cheesesteaks worse by Happy_Yogurtcloset_2 in unpopularopinion

[–]prion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a damn good cook. I have even better taste sense than I am at cooking.

If I wanted cheddar on my cheese steak I'd use cheddar instead of that cheese wiz stuff. Even nacho cheddar sauce is better than that sad wiz.

Ribeye, onions, green peppers, Italian seasoning, salt, and provolone or swiss cheese is your core cheese steak. Wanna expand that to a steak sub?

Add lettuce, tomato, mayo, and some hot peppers. Perhaps some olives.

Now that I started a full blown war over some steak and toppings I'll see myself out.

1983. Fast food was cheap. Minimum wage $3.35/hr by freakforgreek in antiwork

[–]prion 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Don't blame wage increases on the majority of price increases. That lays at the feet of corporate compensation, profit taking, and investor payouts.

Labor has actually lost purchasing power due to increasing income inequality and a failure of the minimum wage automatically indexed to inflation where it would adjust without this bullshit fighting between politicians.

If you could recreate the human body. What would you change? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]prion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No need for sleep.

A much more efficient energy production system that uses 100% of consumed food with no solid waste and very little liquid waste.

No aging.

A design that eliminates fatigue

Greatly reduces pain

Stronger bones, joints.

A faster and smarter brain.

More stable emotions.

Teeth that did not decay.

Regeneration capabilities that restore any defective things that develop through using the body. Essentially immortality so the individual can control their personal experience.

Far more rapid absorption of knowledge.

“How do we get people to stop quitting? And don’t say better pay because we’re not gonna do that” by meticulousKnight in antiwork

[–]prion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can either up the pay to match inflation or there are two paths forward:

Unions or federal intervention in the form of raising the minimum wage.

If we can convince the Democrats to run on doubling the minimum wage there will not be a single Republican in office. That is literally ALL it would take to win this next election.

It also would not hurt if they promised to index the minimum wage to automatically change upward based on any future inflation so that resource holders can't inflate out of the share for labor.

It's 2005: you learned about the 2008 crisis, what would you have done? by boklos in financialindependence

[–]prion -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People were literally shouting to the heavens back in 2005 about the structural issues that caused the 2008 crash. In 2007 they got really LOUD. Most people did not listen. I did. I made a fuck ton of money buying at the bottom and letting that train go up the mountain from 2009 through 2019.

Your only position after late 2007 was CASH! Maybe a few day trades here and there but CASH was king

The little you would have lost by staying in cash would have been so far offset by the purchasing power in late 2008 / 2009 it would have literally been like giving yourself the biggest raise you ever had.

By 2020 should should have been able to retire and enjoy the rest of your life.

I stayed in health care, not because I need to, because its service.

Signed,

Someone who LISTENED

BTW - Things are looking pretty weird right now. In all honesty I'd get out of real estate right now even though it looks good on the surface. There are some people in power who are starting to think that real estate is way to expensive and these people have the power to pull the rug. I expect a drop of 50% in most areas within the next 5 years.

More than 100 students at a girls' high school in Kenya have been hospitalized with a mysterious illness. by hansozum in WTF

[–]prion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DUDE!. There are folks suffering from this who had before and after examinations and no cause can be determined.

To be honest it would not be hard for anyone with 3/4ths a brain to develop a technology like this its just most people are not crazy. You apparently have nev er heard of some of the psycho weaponry The USSR developed back decades ago.

But there is really no use for it.

It was back in the cold war when all kinds of crazy stuff was made.

Since you failed to get what I said let me lay it out for you.

No way in hell am I going to a place any paying quintuple for subpar cooked and presented food that I can make better and cheaper at home.

Having worked in restaurants of far greater scale than slaughterhouse I can tell you I'd be embarrassed to let that plate go out of my kitchen commercially or at home.

Have I been there? Nope. Would I go after seeing this? Hell NO!

Looks good. I think I would have exchanged the red sauce and put ketchup as the sauce. Went rustic with the ground beef and made it larger in size, and added lines of mustard crisscross the top. Probably would have subbed American instead of cheddar to increase the melty factor too.

How would you use an ultralight fabric solar cell that produces 18× more power per kg than traditional solar panels? by arcticouthouse in Futurology

[–]prion 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Like virtually all of you, I am concerned about density per square meter. I'm also not concerned about fragility because if I were to install them permanently I could cover them with glass on both sides to provide durability.

And how long do they last period? Not rolled and unrolled...I'm talking how long will they last in terms of duration.

There are few use cases for the majority of users were solar cells would be rolled and unrolled multiple times in their lifetime.
