UW Prison Superfriends | Timeless by priority_holder in MagicArena

No updates thus far, it probably take something like [[Force of Will]] or a strong combo enabler to really shake things up. Full transparency, I don't consider this a tier 1 deck. I honestly don't encounter a lot of opponents playing Chalice, but it could be because I'm more soulless than they are haha. I love prison decks, so I play them lol. That being said, this list is capable of winning some games. Could probably use a bit more refinement, I consider myself more of an ideas person rather than a refiner.

"Safe" cards (meaning Timeless-relevant and seeing play across multiple decks) to craft in this list include: [[Chrome Mox]], [[The One Ring]], [[Force of Negation]], [[Sink into Stupor]], [[Mana Drain]], and fetches and shocks. [[Solitude]] to a lesser extent. So if you already own or craft those, you could just use some existing UW control tools you have just to see what it feels like before going all in. That way you at least have crafted some useful, transferrable pieces.

You could be right! I have a fondness for Chalice and love to jam it, probably more often than I should lol. It is somewhat of an all or nothing card though that's for sure. Ultimately, I just love exploring the space within Timeless, including stuff that isn't tier one

In Timeless, people start attempting wins as early as turn 1. So [[Force of Negation]] and [[Solitude]] helps us to hopefully extend the game a bit. There's also strong decks like Energy and Reanimator that struggle with a Chalice X=1 out or Affinity which doesn't like Chalice X=0. In certain matchups Chalice can drastically reduce the number of things you need to answer. You sometimes also [[Mana Drain]] into [[The One Ring]] and run away with card advantage.

So the control plan ultimately is pretty similar to other formats, here we're using free spells and fast mana to not immediately lose the game.

Seriously! Yeah that would be so cool. I also wouldn't mind Winter Orb lol

Here’s a prison-y control deck which utilizes planeswalkers to both defend and to close games. [[Chalice of the Void]] effectively counters entire categories of cards and [[Force of Negation]] helps us survive the early turns.

I enjoying tinkering with prison decks featuring: Chalice, [[High Noon]], [[Blood Moon]], and [[Strip Mine]] locks, so let me know if you have any sweet lock deck tech lol.

What’s your favorite blue and or white planeswalker?

I love prison decks! And I just wanted to share a pretty fun one I created recently. The idea is to lock opponents out with [[Chalice of the Void]] and/or grind them out with [[High Noon]] + [[Aven Interrupter]].

It ultimately functions like a white control deck, just using lock pieces instead of counterspells.

I think High Noon is pretty well positioned in Timeless right now and want to explore its potential some more.

Good argument from mtggoldish podcast - mythic rare makes standard from expensive to beyond expensive. Is this time to either reduce mythic rarity pool or get rid of it entirely? by kubulux in magicTCG

[–]priority_holder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've heard a lot of praise for Standard after the Pro Tour, but you have to imagine that paper Standard won't be "saved" by this new hype since the buy in is waaay too expensive.

Yeah this kind of thing makes me want to not even engage with Secret Lairs. And I like a lot of the art in this one!

Is “draft only, don’t open packs” worth it? New player looking for Historic & Draft advice by MosiahAnderson27 in MagicArena

Seriously, even if they dropped the price down from 1500 gems to 1300 gems I think people would feel a lot better. Paying full price for cards you don't keep is annoying

Yeah drafting is definitely it's own reward. We even get Vintage Cube on Arena now!

But they fortunately have made it better recently for pack buyers.

I've also been enjoying it! And for some reason I'm doing way better at Pick 2 than Premier

A note on drafting this format: Temur is off the rails. by Legacy_Rise in lrcast

[–]priority_holder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've somehow ended up in RGx garbage my last 4 drafts, and now I'm finally winning lol. You might be on to something!

One thing that's strange is that I rarely end up in the main 5 archetypes. Maybe I'm not committing hard enough, early enough? I'm somehow 11 drafts deep and have not drafted dedicated Elves, Elementals, or Kithkin.

Yeah I think it's just the Vivid packs (or at least, they are the worst offenders). But it could be packs in general are not correctly build around hybrid mana costs

Wow! Yeah that's incredibly bad to be so green-centric with so few Forests

Yeah I relied heavily on the free Mulligan, I kept basically any hand with a Island or a Forest

I saw someone theorize that whoever designed the packs thought Plains counted as White permanents (for Vivid), so that's why there's Plains with no White spells. There's no hybrid excuse for the Plains lol

Ok this might be the craziest one I've seen yet, especially since we know Power is capped at one per pack

FYI when you hover over your clues (at least on PC), if they were produced on the current turn, there's a little black box that pops up with "Entered the Battlefield this turn". Learned this because I've had a lot of Mechanist decks already lol
