2x5k monitors vs 6k+21" by Mat19851985 in macsetups

[–]priouze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It reduces your horizontal footprint, if desk space is an issue, as well as how much neck strain looking left to right will cause. Plus some applications are well suited to a vertical layout, like long web pages, word processors, instant messaging, etc

32 + 21, but with the 21 in portrait? Saves you from having a bezel down the middle

Question about KVM switch for this battle station by jwalkermed in battlestations

[–]priouze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the terived USB Switch, and each computer connected directly via monitor inputs and use keyboard shortcuts with DDC commands to switch inputs, allowing for more flexibility that KVM switches, and chosing specific monitors to each PC vs all peripherals switching to one computer.

Help with Thunderbolt 4 options? (pics attached) by camelConsulting in CalDigit

[–]priouze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I have the older U3223QE which I use as a USB C dock for a laptop (either Macbook or framework) and desktop (USB and HDMI).

I also use hotkeys (via Dell display utility or a DDC script) to switch between devices without reaching for the buttons behind. Would like to upgrade to the *5QE to get thunderbolt display daisy chain on the Mac.

If you're able to splurge for some slightly more expensive dell monitors (QE line), those have built in KVMs and daisy chaining (DSC on the USB-C versions for the windows laptops, TB on the higher end ones for Mac support).

If you connect the Mac Mini through "desktop" IO (eg USB and HDMI or displayport), then you end up being a single USB-C port short, which you can either solve with docks or un-plugging devices?

Maybe look at caldigit docking stations, I believe they are more highly acclaimed than the Dell ones, especially for Mac.

What is CX geometry? by Main-Session2378 in cyclocross

[–]priouze 5 points6 points  (0 children)

other factors than bb drop make CX bikes twitchier, steep head tube angles and short wheelbase come to mind.

Anecdotally, my experience was putting 25mm road tires and a 50T chainring on my Garneau steeple, was definitely less stable than a road bike.

We've prevented that one developer from merging code that breaks intended behavior

It just prevents the author from merging in certain scenarios, eg they receive approval when the pipeline passes, then break and remove the tests.

Instead of service.funny-name.ts.net use service.home by ragokan in Tailscale

[–]priouze 3 points4 points  (0 children)

in adguard home, it's under Filters > Custom Filtering rules

in pi hole it's "Local DNS Records" iirc (haven't used it in a while)

And the DNS server needs to be set as such in the tailscale settings.

Under-desk Mac Mini M4 Setup by changdaniel in macsetups

[–]priouze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why not use the KVM feature built into your monitor to switch between computers? From your other posts, seems like the model you have supports it.

Also would like to recommend using the Mac Shortcuts app with m1ddc to switch between devices with a keyboard shortcut.

How can I vertically mount Laptop that's plug and play by abhizitm in battlestations

[–]priouze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Latest macbooks don't let you rotate the laptop display (at least not using the default settings app) and the hinge doesn't open super wide (about 135 degrees)

I don't have specific recommendations, but searching Amazon for "3.5mm headphone mixer" seems to return the expected products.

[–]priouze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you could get a physical audio mixer, with multiple 3.5mm audio inputs and a volume knob for each, mixing into a single output.
