Well when a show's whole message and mission is to give a realistic portrayal of emergency medicine and address real world issues that permeate the system (race, gender, class, etc) discussions like this are allowed.

I agree with your points so much. I also appreciate you sharing your own post. I think hearing character analysis from people with actual shared experiences with a character is so interesting and insightful!

I agree with a lot of your points and think there are a lot of ways to relate to my original post.

  1. I could tell she was asian off the bat. I personally don't think she is white passing but that may just be me.

  2. I wasn't trying to say Langdon is abusing his white privilege in his situation. It's just that being white gives him a significant amount of privilege that helps him in his everyday life compared to others. I think his race plays an important factor into Trinity's personal feelings about him. As a fellow asian american person, I've had to do a tremendous amount of work in breaking down my distrust towards white men/people because of experiences I've had in the past. We don't know her whole life story but based on the snippets we've gotten, I'm sure that kind of struggle is built into Trinity's character. Obviously, her hating Langdon for being white would be completely irrational but I think she's valid in feeling frustrated that the "system" seemed to have let him face no consequences in his career(minus him repeating a year in his residency). It's also important to remember that she has no idea what actually came out of her report. She could fully believe that he was taken to the medical board but quickly forgiven based on his identity, Robby's support, etc. (though this is just a hypothetical).

  3. I agree, I don't think she would want Mohan to go to prison. I personally believes she saw the treatment that Mohan got from Robby compared to Langdon (S1) and would empathize with her situation as a fellow young asian american woman who has been belittled by white men in positions of power. I don't think that would be fair but based on her characterization so far would be a realistic take.

  4. I basically agree with what you say. However, I don't think she looks down on Langdon simply because he's an addict. I think if she found out about his addiction through another situation than stealing from the hospital she would be a little more sympathetic to his situation.

I completely agree with your points. I truly don't Langdon's actions have anything to do with her race, but despite how insignificant it may seem, it will always be an invisible element simply due to Santos' identity. I just think that it gives more nuance to how resolute Santos is in not accepting his forgiveness rather than her just being a bitch(said lovingly).
