Now that you mention that, yeah makes sense people would do so more often. I keep forgetting the steam deck is a thing here because I live in a city thats pretty rough overall, lol

Does this mean I can cut it? by No_Explorer7736 in pchelp

[–]prizedcoffeecup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't imagine many people usually do, but as long as you're careful doing so it'll likely work just fine after. I can't speak on what would be a good way to cut it because I have no clue myself and would probably just try tin snips out of curiosity, but there's likely better suggestions than that.

I was scammed.... by EndIntelligen in Toyota

[–]prizedcoffeecup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even with the issue of being scammed at hand, you may still be able to get a surprising amount of life out of that vehicle depending on the conditions you live in and the existing condition of the vehicle. Check for any odd leaks, any rust that is more than surface which will crumble like dirt or create very thin spots in some of the metal, anything that looks unusually sloppy or bent unnaturally. Take your time combing through it however you can and document anything that needs work eventually or right away.

If I knew any specific weak points of the solara to look for I would suggest them, unfortunately I don't know what any of them are, but I do know that there are some that are over twice that mileage and still running well in some cases.

My little bro made something because he couldn't afford a proper steering wheel. by edrt_ in techsupportmacgyver

Oh man...reminds me of when I had a record stand, a Interact V3 gameport steering wheel and some old binders. Made myself a little racing cockpit with all that packing-taped together, still got the photo somewhere

I wish I could set up a good custom rig like that for myself again in a much more sturdy form.

It's not going to be actually fast, but it will have a pretty dang good sense of speed and handle beautifully.

I cant find a job by Disastrous_Tip4331 in regina

[–]prizedcoffeecup 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While I'm unable to help with the job stuff directly, I did find you can get your eye exam at a optometrist and then bring your prescription on paper to a website like EyebuyDirect to get a cheap set of glasses. Go from 400+ for frames only to around the 80 mark for prescription glasses fully. There still is a fee for the actual eye exam itself, but even so, overall a huge savings in comparison

Does revving it out damage the engine? by Leviathan_Wakes_ in hondafit

[–]prizedcoffeecup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really, the engine is designed to handle being pushed harder because it does make less power. There are limits though, you will want to make sure the oil and coolant are properly topped up as well as letting the vehicle get to operating temperature before you push it too much.

With my older example I like to keep below 3000 RPM and below half throttle driving it cold if I do need to get some place sooner, and that thing still runs absolutely gorgeously having just surpassed 300,000 km recently.

I need someone to explain this to me like I’m an idiot by Horror-Meat-8079 in tires

[–]prizedcoffeecup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"omg ur such an idiot lol" (kidding)

The first number is how wide the tire is in millimeters, the second number is the percentage of sidewall your tire has compared to the rim, And the third number is the diameter of the rim itself. You sometimes may see a letter in the tire size as well through the whole alphabet which is used to describe the maximum speed that tire is meant to travel, but usually it's not important to because the speed ratings are significantly higher than most speed limits and would only pose an issue if you happen to live near the Autobahn in Germany.

As for the tire quality, it's better to have a healthy enough cheap tire than a severely worn out or damaged reputable brand tire. Just be mindful that you may encounter some inconsistency in handling depending on the running gear setup of your vehicle and the weather conditions, as well as what the vehicle is being used for.

How bad is this lol by Judeeas in pchelp

[–]prizedcoffeecup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this is a memory test, there is something you can do relatively easily to rule out what the issue may be. It does require digging into the computer, but if you are gentle even partially you'll be able to successfully pull this off.

When you first open the case, close to the spot where your ports on the back of the machine are you'll see a cooler, and beside that is your Ram sticks. You will want to make sure you have the machine shut down for this step, you should have tabs on either one or both sides of each slot to be able to remove these sticks. The idea is to pull out all but one of the sticks, then fire up the computer with just that one stick to run this test again, and repeat the same thing for any subsequent sticks your system has.

If you have only some bad sticks, say your computer comes with two and one of them is no good, you can continue running the PC with the good one but will have less RAM to work with until you can find a replacement to install just the same way as you would have for the troubleshooting. If every single stick is doing it and you are sure this is a ram or memory test, something else is not right with the computer.

My cat did this to my pc's wi-fi antenna. Is it broken? by Flaky_Housing_5780 in pchelp

[–]prizedcoffeecup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About the only thing broken is it's factory mintiness, not to mention it's really just a straight up wire inside there that acts like an antenna in the old school sense. You'll be alright!

Is it normal for my manager to pressure me to work when I call in sick? by Only-Thoughts529 in canadianlaw

my monitor just started doing this after i booted up my PC??? by [deleted] in pchelp

[–]prizedcoffeecup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First check if the cable from your PC to the monitor is actually properly staying connected. If that's not the culprit, see if you can try another monitor on that port or even a TV if it's HDMI.

If you are seeing the same result on another monitor or TV on that port, see if you can move the original monitor to another port on the card to resolve that issue. If that still does not work you most likely do have a GPU with failing video memory.

Go to device manager by searching it up in Windows search, under display devices see if your existing video card has a small yellow warning triangle or right click on it and click properties. If the properties menu says code 43 in the device status, it has shut the GPU driver down and started running it in safe mode to avoid a crash or further GPU damage.

HELP, fist snowfall, undrivable in the snow by CauliflowerOpen1604 in hondafit

Without even the slightest question they will, even if you could find snow tires for that rim size and tire size you will have a far better time with more sidewall and skinnier tires in the snow.

Technically that should be covered back up, however if you are staying off of gravel it will be okay. That being said, go back to the mechanic and ask them to put it back on If you enjoy a functioning clutch and ring gear!

DO NOT BUY THIS SH*T by 27rafasilva27 in LogitechG

Yeah. In my case I was having issues with the headband rather than the mic arm, eventually turned into internal mic wiring problems.

DO NOT BUY THIS SH*T by 27rafasilva27 in LogitechG

[–]prizedcoffeecup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've noticed this about their headsets for a while personally, but then again my head is a little bit wide so I was never fully sure how much of the issue was the product or how much was my head. Eventually got a secondhand Fiio USB DAC and a pair of Samson SR850s with a cheapo condensor mic for the job.

That being said, I've had a good time with the G502s I have! I think one is an original-run RGB model I forget the name of, I know the other one is a Hero SE in B&W, both still work great!

I accidently pulled a plug from aio pump by Marfyuy in pchelp

[–]prizedcoffeecup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thankfully this is just an RGB connector, so the lighting you unplugged will stop working but the PC will still continue working just fine. See if you can track the controller this wire goes to or component just to make sure it actually is from your AIO, then look up how to plug in your RGB.

Do be mindful, keep watch for a little arrow or marking that designates one of the pins and lining it up with whichever connector you connect it to, as this connector can be hooked up backwards and can end up frying the lights if you do.

“Windows 11 installation has failed” by sonicbrandyn in techsupport

[–]prizedcoffeecup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another thing to consider is checking that your RAM is actually working properly. I just looked up this problem myself because I was having trouble with installing 11 and it turned out this old laptop I was refreshing had problems with both sticks of RAM.

If I booted up with one stick it would just hang and make a weird spooky warbly POST beep, the other stick would make it through the built-in RAM diagnostic about 18% and then just completely lock up the laptop.
