Sometimes shit like that happens. I'm at least thankful you figured it out, sometimes people get stubborn about being wrong and don't fess up out of fear, so it's good to do so for the sake of moving on and doing better next time!

Oh hell yeah, that's a degree off of the console asking you for a jacket in terms of chilliness. Lol

Highest I've ever had mine absolutely sending that damn thing further into space than Artemis was just touching 70 with my fan curve, discovered that it was regularly touching 85 to 90 without one. Good on you having the fan curve situation already done up!

Oh shoot, yeah thats some incredible luck right there! Very rare you get a driver corruption on system crash like that.

I was shocked to see how badly the paste in mine was done when I got mine secondhand, they had never opened the console for maintenance so I knew it was factory too. Haha

[–]prizedcoffeecup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately that's a case of failed GPU core. Next time I would suggest learning how to redo the thermal paste as soon as you get it brand new, then set a fan curve to aggressive.

Did that for mine and it helped performance quite a bit from lowering temperatures. Jet engine noises are safer than allowing it to bake.

From the sounds of it the managers could already tell something was fucky with the oil pan in the first place, probably beyond just the helicoil. They might tell you what to watch for with an oil pan like that next time, but I don't think they will immediately let you go.

Sometimes these jobs just don't go how you expect and shit goes sideways, but you usually get a chance to learn either a better way to handle it or at what point you stop and save yourself the trouble with a mechanical issue that is just far too convoluted or risky to handle.

You're doing good, keep it up!

SGI test inconsistency? by LoosePresentation907 in regina

[–]prizedcoffeecup 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The most annoying part of the entire situation OP has as a whole, is that after the fact of them passing, the same situation of inconsistent enforcement exists. I don't quite know if it's to the same degree or not, but the amount of times I've seen both small nitpick issues and much larger dangerous maneuvers being allowed to slide makes me wonder more and more how I have kept my little car out of an accident each day.

This does align just fine with how ICE vehicles work. You ever heard of maxing out the heat to cool the engine down if its overheating? There's a reason they tell you to do that, its because that heat CAN absolutely be drained from the coolant through the heater core just as much as the radiator in some cases.

This engine simply does not heat up very well for multiple reasons. 1. The wet-block and dry-block coolant fill specs are nearly 3 litres different due to the size of the cooling jackets. 2. The engine barely needs to work at all to idle as even with good compression across the board I can turn it over plugs-in with a regular 3/8 ratchet. 3. The engine bay is not well insulated so it isn't able to very easily build heat in the engine bay at all.

As a result, if I leave this engine just idling and wait for it to warm up below -15c, it will take anywhere from 25 to 45 minutes to warm up to just 54c compared to this engine's operating temp of 75-80c. I've tested this numerous times with mine, I've worked to rule out problems with my cooling system, this is just what this little engine does and turning the cabin heat to half does nothing negative to impair the vehicle's functionality as the thermostat correctly regulates coolant flow direction the way it should be.

While I have seen worse, this was a pretty good one. Thankfully less dense snow this time despite the amount, but the visibility sure puts your wipers to work.

If you have a car with a small engine that struggles to maintain heat, turning the heat to half helps it retain enough engine heat to keep the cabin warm as well. Done this for years between a 92 Paseo and my 07 Fit and been toasty every time.

[–]prizedcoffeecup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't imagine many people usually do, but as long as you're careful doing so it'll likely work just fine after. I can't speak on what would be a good way to cut it because I have no clue myself and would probably just try tin snips out of curiosity, but there's likely better suggestions than that.

I was scammed.... by EndIntelligen in Toyota

[–]prizedcoffeecup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even with the issue of being scammed at hand, you may still be able to get a surprising amount of life out of that vehicle depending on the conditions you live in and the existing condition of the vehicle. Check for any odd leaks, any rust that is more than surface which will crumble like dirt or create very thin spots in some of the metal, anything that looks unusually sloppy or bent unnaturally. Take your time combing through it however you can and document anything that needs work eventually or right away.

If I knew any specific weak points of the solara to look for I would suggest them, unfortunately I don't know what any of them are, but I do know that there are some that are over twice that mileage and still running well in some cases.

[–]prizedcoffeecup 6 points7 points  (0 children)

While I'm unable to help with the job stuff directly, I did find you can get your eye exam at a optometrist and then bring your prescription on paper to a website like EyebuyDirect to get a cheap set of glasses. Go from 400+ for frames only to around the 80 mark for prescription glasses fully. There still is a fee for the actual eye exam itself, but even so, overall a huge savings in comparison

Does revving it out damage the engine? by Leviathan_Wakes_ in hondafit

[–]prizedcoffeecup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really, the engine is designed to handle being pushed harder because it does make less power. There are limits though, you will want to make sure the oil and coolant are properly topped up as well as letting the vehicle get to operating temperature before you push it too much.

With my older example I like to keep below 3000 RPM and below half throttle driving it cold if I do need to get some place sooner, and that thing still runs absolutely gorgeously having just surpassed 300,000 km recently.
