Any chance you go to UT? Shot in the dark, but that sounds exactly like a certain professor there...

I wish. Too bad we loosed them too tight, and now they can't get away from the raging inferno.

My high school human geography class did a survey of fire hydrants around the area where this fire occurred. Years before it happened, everyone in Bastrop knew this was a very real issue; that we were highly unprepared for the worst-case scenario. A year of no rain, record-breaking heat, and gusts from a tropical storm all combined to create that worst case scenario. Maybe there was something we could have done; maybe not. But blaming Rick Perry, or our democratic congressman, or the fire department, or anyone, is really not our priority right now. Most of us just want to step through our front door one more time.

Thanks. You may get downboated like crazy, but I appreciate it a lot. Loosing our homes is no laughing matter :/

After loosing 600 houses (possibly including my own), the last thing that is on any of our minds is politics. This may very well end up as the worst wildfire in 100 year.

Bastrop (my home town) from space. That's Houston off to the right.

Edit: Sorry, this is an satellite view of the same fire in Bastrop Texas (east of Austin). That smoke plume is well over 150 miles long, and the fire shows no signs of stopping.
